Default Touching up T&D pool patio paint. Are you kidding?

Has anyone had to touch up the deck paint and found it doesn't match? A little after a year (naturally out of warranty) there were some small touch ups to be done and I realized T&D had not left a touch up can as TV does with all your house colors. T&D first insisted they did, then told me the paint comes from TV. I called TV Warranty and finally got the color, went to ColorWheel, got a can, painted the spots and voila. It didn't match. I thought maybe it needed to blend over time. I waited. Nope.
Five months go by and I start the process over. I call TV and they say it comes from T&D. I speak to T&D, in fact I speak to Randy, and he says it will never match. Even the can they leave you will never match. huh? Even if it is just a couple months later. It happens all the time. Basically, he could only suggest to repaint the entire deck at $1 a foot. Am I annoyed? You betcha. Spending $1,000 to repair the touch ups is insane. I would have been very happy had they left the touch up can. How far off would it be? Right now, it looks like I have white compared to gray it is so far off.
Anyone else have a similar experience? Or how did you get the paint to match?

I can understand fading, this sounds extreme. I would suggest two options. First, if you can get a piece of the paint (a chip) you might be able to get one of the paint stores to do an exact color match with their equipment. The other option would be to get multiple paint swatches and do a manual color match, and cross your fingers. I just did this with some furniture and was able to match the color by eye.

One other suggestion, when you get a pint that is close, blend it in with a brush, this will make the repair less obvious.

Hope this helps.

When we had our builder walk through and when we had the T&D walk through, both men told us that touch ups to the patio or pool area after any length of time would show because of dirt build up and/or sun fading.

There is no way to get a paint chip without damaging the patio deck. I am actually working with my fandex to get approximate color then going to get a couple samples and try them. Then I will take it to colorwheel to have them make it as a deck paint . Oh believe me, I feathered it....which is why my 5 inch area eventually turned into a foot across LOL
I get the fading issue but what happened wasn't fading. It got darker and the new paint is much much lighter. That is why I waited to see if it would "cure" so to speak and darken with time and match. Alas, it was not to be.
Oh well. Live and learn.

Wow, it got darker, I am with you I would not have expected that. Sounds like you have a plan, hope this works out for you. With the weather getting cooler, you might be able to paint this yourself and save some money. If you have no interest in that, my step son has just opened a business "Style in Tile" in Wildwood, and he does painting also, very reasonable.

Can Color wheel adjust/tweak the paint in the can you already bought?
Might be worth a try.

Our patio paint got darker, too. The previous owner had a hot tub, and when he removed it, the paint under where the tub had been was at least two shades lighter. Think cream versus tan. I used some bleach where the two shades came together and the tan bleached right out to cream. So yes, it can get darker. The darkness is because of dirt, I guess.

Maybe. I can ask. We'll see. I am thinking maybe wait another year and then paint it with a stone effect so if one spot is off, it doesn't require the entire deck and lanaii to be painted.
I'll check out your Stepson's business regardless.
