Why is that? I see most entertainment runs from 5-9 pm.

Happy hour (i.e. cheaper booze) in LSL ends at 6PM. It is 7PM for SS.

But yes the entertainment stops at 9.

I guess that's good for us because we like LSL more that SS. Less crowds = More room for us.

Lake Sumter Landing for singles?

People all hanging in the bars???

Sounds to me like someone who lives on the other side of TV with an axe to grind.

SS is older crowd???
LSL is younger and singles????
Even though one is entitled to their opinion on anything.....this one is absolutely ridiculous....in my opinion (and anybody else with a pulse).

I think this post is a riot. People just can't make up their minds. I remember another post a few weeks back, Someone stated that SS was a ghost town, that there was nothing there except empty stores and just as soon as Brownwood opened SS would be closed down. Besides only old people went there. I guess that's not true. I guess you youngsters down south will just have to put up with SS a little longer. By the way, I live south of 466 and go to both SS and LSL.

Spanish Springs is the oldest square and I think the friendliest people go there!

Am I just seeing this due to "timing" or do you think it is true? If true any idea as to why?

Don't forget, there are more people who have access to Spanish Springs, who don't even live here. Many people come for the entertainment!!

I think you can go to the villages home page and click the temperature in the top right corner to get to the web cams

Russ. You know I usually agree with you but some of the entertainment continues after nine when the two for one crowd wanders home. Gives new meaning to "gate crashers" and keeps those boys who mend the crossbars guaranteed employment.

Actually I am teasing. It is SO silly to get into the discussion of one square over another. Spanish Springs has Church on the Square that is a building replica of a Spanish Church to go with the square's architecture that houses some mighty fine musical entertainment, much of it classical music. I thought it was a church-church for a couple of years. It does have a non denominational service on Sunday but it was mainly constructed to house musical groups.

It has Katiebelles too. Spanish Springs is very much alive and kicking and so is LSL. And when Brownwood comes...we will have regionalism arguments on here....big time. We seniors LOVE to debate!

I don't which square is bigger or draws the most people, but I do know that on nine out of ten nights the "entertainment" is awful. I am so sick and tired of seeing a girl or a couple of people singing to pre-recorded tracks. Some of these people can't even sing.
One of the reasons I moved here was because there is supposed to be "live" entertainment every night. I don't consider karaoke singers to be "live" entertainment. A girl singing to recored tracks with one guy strumming a guitar is not a band.
Then some of the real bands are very accomplished and tight, they tend to be very boring and play the same songs over and over. I like country music, but I am getting really sick of it.
Whoever is hiring the entertainment needs to get some different kinds of bands in here. And please hire bands. No one with pre-recored tracks.

I agree with you Doc. Have you listened to Uncle Bob's Rock Shop? If not check out their website and playlist @ Music « Uncle Bob's RockShop

I think they are very talented vocalists and musicans, and they play alot of my favorite classic rock tunes.

The music at the squares will hopefully change for the better in the near future with the addition of Brownwood. Or maybe not if the new band pool doesn't grow with the additional needs of three squares.

The later "baby boomers" moving into the newer southern villages will have a need for moving from the 50's music (not that there's anything wrong with it ) to more music of the 60's and early 70's we grew up enjoying.

Seems like more and more musicans are retiring to TV, so maybe there's hope.

BTW which bands are your favorites at the squares?

I don't think I could take Rocky and The Rollers "eight days a week" . Hope you get your act together and give us another band soon.

You're right, Bill. There are a lot of talented musicians and great bands in the area. It's a question of who they choose to book.

Boomers are moving in and the music will change as the residents change. I think that a lot of us still enjoy the fifties music although I agree that more 60s and early 70s music needs to be added to the mix. Country is OK, but it seems like I hear it five nights a week. The worst is the button pushers doing disco. Please let's end all the canned music.

It's gotten to the point where if my wife and I go into a square and don't see a drum set we walk out. Which is too bad because we did catch a great acoustic duo last week. I think they are two brothers and they were great. The problem is that they had some big name guy in Katie Belle's that night so there was no on in the square.
