Pedestrians always have the right of way on the MMP's. We all understand the risks to a pedestrian and why it may be prudent to not trust golf cart drivers but that isn't a reason for golf cart drivers to not own their responsibility and pay attention to their surroundings. IF a cart were to hit a pedestrian, the driver of the golf cart better have a good umbrella policy.

For the record, I was in car driving back from Indiana (still am) and my brain was on the fritz (see #2 above). BobnBev is (are?) correct, I was confusing the MMP with the cart lane in the streets.

I’m going to bow out now and not post until I get home.

Just like we all rely on each other to follow the rules of the road so we get to where we are going safely......most drivers do what is right....some few do not.

The MMP is the same way. I have been walking them for going on 15 years. Most everybody does the responsible thing required when sharing the MMP. Carts slow down, stop, move over, wait where necessary, so it all seems to work well most of the time. And like the automobiles there are a good many that do not share well. And unfortunately there are some who really do believe the MMP is there for them.....but enough about the 2% and the few jerks.

The other 98% of us seem to be able to use the pathways just fine.

Please review the messages here. IT seems to us that there is a real need for some controls on the MMP units. OK< here is this and that opinion. So, how about this?
Each cart owner pays a small fee, the carts have to have a number clearly identifying them. Now, people can call in to report the odd stuff and the rude stuff and the dangerous stuff. We ride bikes. On the roads it is very dangerous. On the paths consider this:
1. We drive very carefully and yield to everyone, everyone.
2. We do not pas a walker if a car is coming, close from ahead
3. We slow down for any an all situations,
4. On a bike, we have good rear view mirrors, we watch, and wen a cart is coming from behind, we slow down, we use the left arm to motion them to pass when it is clear
Many drivers really appreciate this, let us all be considerate and let us all wish for an identity method to report the hot rudders who refuse to grow up and contribute to safety.
Thank you. It would be nice to live in a community where the management is concerned about this item and the dangers.

is that going to be anonymous?

The right of way exists because everyone else is expecting each person involved to take their turn, IN turn. Once someone refuses to take their turn, it messes up the pattern for everyone.

If you have the right of way, take it. Maybe slow down, or speed up, however is most efficient and safe for you to do given the circumstances.

But I can't tell you how many times the entire flow of traffic has been brought to a complete halt, simply because the person who had the right of way, demanded that someone else go first.

Where would you have them walk?... on the grass? in the road? Through people's yards? No disrespect... just wondering where you would walk.

Can you cite a reference for this statement?

I've created a new group on this site addressing the subject of "Responsible Pedestrian Awareness". Please join the conversation.
Thank you.

I agree that a collision with one would be deadly, and if i’m walking, i pay attention to make sure that the cart driver sees me. So far, i haven’t needed to jump into the bushes to avoid being hit.

Is that incorrect?
agree!

There are so many people in TV who are clueless about safety issues, and proper procedures when using recreational paths. Before you use one of the paths, regardless if you are on a cart, bike, running or walking, take some time to understand the law.

Good suggestion, however would be like trying to get the many, MANY golfers to sand their divots, fix their ball marks or rake the bunkers.

Good luck with that!!!!!

On the left side for there safety and single file when traffic coming even when only in opposite lane, especially on blind curves Walking two or more abreast.

Cars, golfcarts, bicycles and pedestrians....The Perfect Storm!

Cars, golfcarts, bicycles and pedestrians all using the same roadways - The perfect mix for accidents waiting to happen.
