Walkers on the MMP's SHOULD have just as much right to walk on the pavement (single file, not taking up more than half of the trail width), but all too many carts don't want to slow down to let opposing carts go by before going around the walkers...so stepping off in the grass is simply a prudent act of self-preservation.

Walking facing traffic is obviously the smart thing to do, but there might be an argument made in walking in the same direction, i.e.:...at least then you'll never see what hits you.

Default MMP waliking and moving

[QUOTE=kcrazorbackfan;1601677]Since my rotator cuff surgery two weeks ago, I’ve been walking about 4 miles a day on my days off from work.

Please review the messages here. IT seems to us that there is a real need for some controls on the MMP units. OK< here is this and that opinion. So, how about this?
Each cart owner pays a small fee, the carts have to have a number clearly identifying them. Now, people can call in to report the odd stuff and the rude stuff and the dangerous stuff. We ride bikes. On the roads it is very dangerous. On the paths consider this:
1. We drive very carefully and yield to everyone, everyone.
2. We do not pas a walker if a car is coming, close from ahead
3. We slow down for any an all situations,
4. On a bike, we have good rear view mirrors, we watch, and wen a cart is coming from behind, we slow down, we use the left arm to motion them to pass when it is clear
Many drivers really appreciate this, let us all be considerate and let us all wish for an identity method to report the hot rudders who refuse to grow up and contribute to safety.
Thank you. It would be nice to live in a community where the management is concerned about this item and the dangers.

The only answer is to build nice, wide walking paths that do not allow golf carts.

Fenney has them, and based on the plans they are going to build more.

If I'm walking or riding a bike, if I'm on a path or on a street............I get over. Entitlement is not going to help my injuries or dead if there is an accident.

Sh^t happens. I'm more comfortable with Stand-my-ground with my six-shooter than I am with larger vehicles around me.

If there are cars there, it is NOT a multimodal path. It is a cart/bike lane. There is a huge difference. Multimodal paths are isolated from the street usually by a fairly wide buffer, and are actually private property.

Default My two cents worth

There are currently two threads running on the same subject.
Clearly it has been and still is a problem.

I drive a car, drive a golf cart, ride a bike and walk.

Several have posted the laws. Sadly, it is clearly a large reach to trust your life that someone, everyone, around you knows the law and will follow the law.

It does not matter WHY Fenney, DeSoto, and McClure have these nice walking paths that do not allow golf carts, but they have them, and the plans indicate they plan to build more. Good for them.

Maybe boats shouldn't be on the MMP (hot RUDDERS) but anyway that's the ONE thing I WOULD NOT wish for but not because (in theory) it's not a good idea (it's excellent) but I can't imagine some of the ridiculous reports that would be made! It would drive whoever is in charge insane with a lot of petty crap.

I don't understand why walkers feel that they need to walk on the MM paths. They are taking their lives in their hands. Yes, the are called multi modal paths and walkers, runners and bicyclists have every right to use them. But when one of them gets it won't do them a whole of good to say, "I was within my rights". Maybe they'll put that on someone's gravestone.

I also wonder if the Villages may be held liable if an accident occurs. I'm sure that some lawyer is going to come up with the idea that The Villages calling them multi modal paths, instead of golf cart paths, which, IMHO is what they really are, is responsible for the death or injury of someone who was walking on a path.

We have thousands of senior citizens in small vehicles going 20 mph and some faster on these paths. Many of our residents don't see well and some don't have very good co-ordination or reflexes. Couple that with the fact that 14 year old kids without a drivers license are allowed to drive on these paths, and I wouldn't be caught dead walking on them. But I do believe that someone will be caught dead walking on them someday. Maybe they'll yell, "I was within my rights" from the grave.

That would go for driving a car too. You are many more times likely to get into a car accident than a walking accident on the MMP with a golf cart (not that either one is better than the other). Aside from the fact that is what they are for, we walk 6 miles a day, are we supposed to walk around the block 70 times? Gets boring as does walking a 1 mile walking path 6 times or driving 10 miles to get to a long path (with a greater chance of a car accident). Watching the sunrise, the big birds and the golfers is part of the "life" around here. We can't all hide. A piece of space junk can fall on your head too.

And just who would you report it to, Not the Sheriff, not Community Watch, not the Fire Dept, who else is left?

Polo Grounds, over by the dog park in the historic section, there are a few trails such as the one by Mulberry Rec Center to name a few.
