It's true that if you have a new house, all your original appliances come with an extra year warranty. So two years of warranty. They should fix this, not give you ridiculous work-arounds.

Default Junky whirlpool appliances

We had a problem with our fridge humming loudly when compressor runs. Tech came back 3 times to insulate the fridge better. Still hums but if I push on it in the right spots it quiets down. Ice maker......twice it dispensed ice with black plastic broken parts in the cubes. Ice maker replaced and problem fixed. Fridge also makes a banging/clicking nose. tech says the fridge makes certain noises and we need to get use to the noises it makes. (chuckle chuckle) Dishwasher leaves a horrible film/residue on the dishes and cleans very poorly. I have to wash a lot of the silverware after it comes out of the dishwasher because it doesn't get some of it clean. Doesn't dry the dishes. When Warrenty runs out we will replace appliances one by one. Will never buy whirlpool again.

Appliance are not like the used to be for sure!

I really don't know what to think about the appliance pkg. We will try to delete or sell them most likely.

Consumer Reports shows that most appliances have major issues these days. I think a lot of it is all the bells and whistles that we all want and love. More computerization and more to go wrong.

I currently have an LG refrigerator that I love, BUT, it is a replacement for my original LG that actually CAUGHT ON FIRE!! The light that goes on when you open the door, never went off, who knew?? We were smelling what we thought was a gas leak and finally realized that it was the light in the top of the double door, freezer on the bottom refrigerator compartment.

The light had heated up so much that it had burnt the plastic housing around it and melted the white roof of the fridge. It also melted the food containers on the top shelf. Everything was singed black. We called LG, as we had not bought the extended warranty they would not help. The fridge was 15 mo old. They claimed that they had no other similar reports.(hmmm)

I looked my model up on line and there were tons for reports.

I went to the furniture store that sold it to me, they are Awesome!!!!

They did not have to do anything for me, but they did. They replaced the refrigerator with a new LG. This one has tiny little led lights instead. I was reluctant to take another LG. But that was my only option. A free LG or buy something else. For a $2800 refrigerator I decided to take the new LG and it has been awesome.

Obviously a design flaw. And a serious one. But I think all the appliance makers are alike. bells and whistles and intricate design that is expensive to repair and easy to malfunction.

I will go with the top consumer report picks and read the reviews and see what we end up with. If we weren't going to be renting out our home in Utah I would drag that newer LG with us.

The furniture store is RC Wiley. A fantastic store with great prices, sales, inventory and service. I will really, really miss them. If any of you have ski resort homes in Utah, you know them well. I dream of finding a store with the selection, price and integrity when we move. Sigh!!!!!

Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators are produced in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. IMO.

Our fridge repair man said that most appliances, regardless of their brand, have parts that are the same. For instance, on a Maytag dishwasher the same parts are used on a whirlpool dishwasher. On a LG fridge they use the same ice maker that's in a GE. So, I drew the conclusion that they make approximately the same quality of appliance but stick another tag on it. Most appliances are made in China hence the poor quality and durability. That's just my opinion.

Default Whirlpool Refrigerator Problem

Yes, I too have joined the ranks of those disappointed with Whirlpool appliances provided with our new homes. My refrigerator had a "puddle" running from beneath it when I moved in last year. I bought a 1 yr old CYV which came with an appliance contract from outside repair firm. They came out and said the water supply for icemaker was never connected properly by Villages contractor upon installation. Water had been spraying on the wall and bowed out the side of the cabinet. Conveniently "out of warranty" past one year.

Refrigerator is now just 2 yrs old and water is once again coming out from beneath it. Neighbor pulled it out, the water supply is connected, no condensation in tray underneath, so I am just leaving it out and looking to replace it and kick it to the curb. Pure trash! Now I know where they get the name WhirlPOOL as it sits in a pool of water.

We bought a new home in Sept. We were told that The Villages extends the factory warranty by 1 year!

For what it' worth, we were told that LG and Samsung are both products of South Korea. Not exactly made in the USA, but not China either. We just purchased a new LG washer and dryer to be delivered next week. Hope they live up to the hype.

Although our appliances were only 3 years old, we decided to replace them. They just had the feel of "contractor grade" appliances, and they were very noisy! We first went to HH Gregg in Ocala but the service was so terrible we went up the road to Sears. We purchased a new induction range, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator and are very happy with them. Will probably replace the toilets next. I am tired of plastic parts breaking. We just didn't get top of the line stuff when we purchased our home, but I guess that's standard unless you're having your home custom made. By the way, the induction range is very cool. I feel like I have a new toy!

I know this is an old thread--but seriously WHIRLPOOL refrigerator is giving me problems.

The white plastic cracked! Yep inside the side by side (refigerator side) cracked at the bottom and then along a shelf line. So, I called Warranty and was promptly told call Whirlpool.

Whirlpool referred me to Fields Appliance. A man came out and (I kid you not)--applied apoxy, told me to let it sit for 24 hours. I did--I have been busy for the last several weeks but I am still not happy. Every time I open the refrigerator I see the apoxy. Now--I have yet ANOTHER crack! I googled this an seems it is a whirlpool flaw. Geesh--I hope I am not stuck with this junk in my new house. I purchased 3/13/13....calling Warranty Dept again tomorrow.
