However, more serious crimes involving firearms/weapons or of a violent nature such as assaults, armed robbery, etc. should be reported through some sort of news outlet. In a community of primarily seniors that's just common sense.
I'm not defending anyone. More serious crimes is of course a matter of opinion. Reading these posts, many posters, including me, do not know what reality is or was.

One post stated it was a suicide attempt.

I don't want to own one but you can purchase a police band radio.

Has it's benefits and deficits. I deal with the deficits and keep my head in reality aka outside the bubble.
We can't wait to live with our heads in the sand! Here we come Bubble, in 4 years. Have had a lifetime of upsetting news that concerns things for which we have no control. We get our daily metro Atlanta newspaper in the driveway, watch local and national news, and read some of it on the Internet. On occasion, a positive story is presented or information is provided that benefits us personally, but the overwhelming majority of news only provides us with a conversation piece. Conversation that does not lift the person with whom we share. In four years our news will become what the Villages wants us to hear. How a couple has celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, how so-in-so won the pickleball tournament, etc. BRING IT ON! We have spent far too many hours of our valuable life focused on things for which we have absolutely no control and I ask myself, "why?" We look forward to enjoying life in the Villages that we worked so hard to have while letting others worry about the state of the country and world.

That’s because The Daily Sun is a good news , news paper. The developer will slap their hands if they print anything they will hurt sales. They don’t report break ins and thiefs!

It’s all about rainbows, sunshine and living the dream.
I agree! I want to know what crime is taking place in my neighborhood.

There is a very simple solution to this supposed problem, do not subscribe to the Daily Sun. See, it's so easy a caveman can understand it or even a Villager. I did a very quick search and found 3 other news sources that report all the crime, poor behavior, ignorance, and depravity that should more than satisfy the most morbid appetites out there.
I think some of you people need to find something else to occupy your time. Volunteer at a charity, help out a neighbor that needs assistance, get a hobby, get a pet, join a club, go to a nursing home and talk to the people living there and try to brighten their day, just do something other than constantly looking for the evil in society.

**************.com you'll get the crime stories. and you'll note how many of them are committed not by Villagers but by people on the outside. and given how many people live here now. 140,000? It's an astonishingly small number and some of the crimes are kinda humorous. Today they talk about some woman from Leesburg who lifted a $36 bracelet from a TV boutique. It is what it is. in SF, you can't even get prosecuted for less than $1,000. so if the Daily Sun isn't enough of a dirt paper, so be it. can always read about the crime on line.

Actually a good idea. My dad used to work for CBS, many years ago. I several times went with the crew to news event. I was there. What appeared on the news as an edited story,
was far from what I saw.

The idea of an all good news news source has been tried, and failed many times. We are drawn to bad news. We are reading this thread. THERE WAS A MURDER-when we read it it was in Australia and it was three years ago.

[QUOTE=Stu from NYC;2020647]The Sun Times has no interest in reporting crime.

And to elaborate a bit further, if you recognize what it actually is, a (granted fancy) advertising vehicle, which could (?) possibly have found a way to write off partially as a tax deduction (?), it makes sense. Retired very early so been here a long time. Recognized it was not a "real" newspaper in the sense many of us understood. Former city was less than 100,000 population, but the entire police blotter was a standard feature, it was a standard part of the "news". Something like a major presence as mentioned above, would always have received a separate article, possibly pictures. Near by cites of half a million and up, probably not, but here in America's home town, one would expect everything, especially anything that might indicate crime, danger, or anything the residents, being "seniors", should be especially alert to, would be a major gold of the local "newspaper"... but not so. Ditto Covid, and anything that could possibly be viewed as in any way "reality". Having said that, personally I believe all kinds of literature should be available, and that people know what the Sun actually is, and purchase it for reasons other than truth and up to the moment information; good or not so good. To me it's like purchasing a good novel for the beach to "escape" reality, or purchasing the latest copy of the physician's desk reference... it depends on what YOU want to read. If you are considering a move here, or just want to know for insurance rate reasons, the crime rate here, then the Sun is not the vehicle you would choose ! Some feel the $.50 is worth the price to use as a coupon book, or to compare auto prices of local dealers ! Others (jokingly ?) say, they need liners for the cage of their bird(s), so who knows !

Pretty much agree with you, but, the line "isn't enough of a dirt paper" ? That might be a little to emotional and unfair really. I don't know that person who originally asked, but I think they might have been looking for what so many of us were used to in the papers from the locals we came from... mainly, not "DIRT" at all (if you mean like innuendo ? ) but just a simple, straightforward, feature that prints the daily police incident report (often called "blotter") without "dirt" or any kind of emotionally laden language. That's not much to ask of a home town paper really ?

I didn’t. Haven't changed anything, if did wouldn’t have changed anything.

I wonder where you find the statistics telling you that crime is up in the villages? Can you supply your sources? Thank you
