If the "offensive" back yard plantings are still there it would appear that it is legal to have it, and in this case why get your knickers in a twist over something you cannot change and which is none of your business?

There are probably people who don't like your choice of landscaping or the color of your house. It's pretty ugly of the OP to make such an issue of this.
I don't think so. Actually, what is pretty ugly is the back yard with all the cactus plants, IMHO.

I know it may be none of anyone's business what they plant in their yard but my concern is what happens if an eyesore in the neighborhood effects home prices if someone wishes to sell their home? That could cause a problem.

That’s the way it used to be. Now, SOME people decide to make everything that other people do; their business. It’s a different world today.

Not necessarily.

The back yard plantings may not adhere to TV rules, but nothing was done about them because no one complained.

If any of us are irritated by another person's actions, we all have the right to find out if that person has broken the rules.

Still no responses about my concern for property values. Many people, on this thread alone, view the cactus landscape to be an "eyesore" and have voiced their opinions about it.

What can be done if someone is trying to sell their home when an eyesore is visible to their property? I'm not referring only to the cactus landscape but any eyesore in any part of our community. Can something be done if negative feedback from potential buyers to the selling agent includes an eyesore visible to the home up for sale? Does anyone know if something can be done?

What is your definition of an "eyesore"? I bet you could get 20 different definitions right here.
That's the purpose of Community Standards/Deed Restrictions.

Well said Bogie.

Life seems unbelievably short this morning. I want to tell you publicly Bogie, whose real name I don't know, how much I admire your direct approach to things, even when you disagree with me.

You are a good person, Bogie Shooter.

My husband and I drove past this house yesterday. I told him about the posts and he shook his head. We both think the backyard looks fine. Many interesting cacti, pretty pots and an attractive bench. I have never heard of a cactus restriction.

I also think this yard looks super tacky. That being said, if it meets the requirement of pertinent covenants, laws , and restrictions , I believe the owners have every right to do plantings as they wish. If they violate covenants and other enforceable rules, then sick the trolls on them. JMHO
