Jeesh!! What a time to have to travel back to the Chicago area... So much going on in Gillyland! I am definitely missing out on all the fun, and will also miss quite a few reunions of those returning. That being said, the sooner I take care of business, the sooner I can return to the bubble!
Today went well! Left Atlanta 8:30, sunshine and lovely weather all day. Arrived Louisville about 4 PM, both dogs behaved and are curled up with me aa we speak. A-4, stopped in TN at Nickajack Lake and the Tennessee River. Walked around for a half hour of so and it was lush and green and beautiful! Nashville was hopping with some music festival, and I breezed thru the mountains on 24. Such a pretty state! Six hours to Chi-town and a barbecue with friends tomorrow, then the work begins!
Miss you all and hope to be back soon!!

. Frost on the glass!!! I'm worried about adjusting to northern living !! I leave Tuesday to rejoin Dave in Minnesota. I've been telling him it is grey and humid done here since he left so he doesn't get too jealous. We are looking forward to becoming more regulars in the fall! Sue

All you poor northerners better hurry up and get your frost bitten butts back down here. I was in the high 80's today and beautiful. Wherever you may be know that your neighbors miss you and wish you were here!

We need more new volunteers to host parties!!!!!

When things started happening around here in the darkness of night, THAT'S WHEN people started tuning in to see what crazy things were going on. Then they started trading for or buying lots in "Upper Gilchrist just to get a piece of the action. SEE WHAT YOU STARTED !!!

I sure am glad we picked "Upper Gilchrist".

This thread certainly has done a magnificent job of keeping all the Gillyland 'wannabees' and 'absent friends' briefed about the neighbourhood and helping with all that feeling of missing and loss of seperation down to a minimum.

Glad Hotrods homewood journey is going well and glad that new and old neighbours are coming back (or in) to offset the leavers to keep the fulltimers company.

Thank goodness we have had a few good weather days here in the UK (well two), after the first week of rain and overcast days - or the 'Gillyland loss' withdrawl symtoms we are suffering from would be much worse.

To keep our spirits high we have been shopping for golf 'kit' and now we have the lot, including a set of golf clubs for us both made by Ben Sayer, a UK firm, who are the oldest golf club maker in the world! - do they sell them in the US?

Today (Monday 27th) will be our first day out with them, so we will keep our fingers crossed and follow the GillyCruisers advice :- "Left arm straight, head down and follow through", we will see if it still works!

Had a great boost to our flagging spirits yesterday as we Skyped His Worship the Mayor and the Lady Mayoress and actually seeing our friends in the flesh is a great moral booster.

Those still there, please give our regards to all the newcomers and returnees when you meet them and Mr Mayor and A4, please give the 'Mums' a big hug from us to keep them going until we get back to do it ourselves

Bye to all for now

Let us know the date and time of the Welcome Home Gillybration and we will join you in raising a glass at the appropriate date and time so that we can be with you in spirit if not in the flesh

Hi Guys,
Don't forget that we can't pop down to see for ourselves, so keep the pictures coming so we can keep track of all the work in progress.

Can't wait until we are back down there to see for it (and you three)ourselves, it is still quite likely that we will fly back into NY and drive down, so may meet up with you guys first before we meet all our other new TV friends again

Glad you are making good progress going through your stuff. It's an interesting process and just think of how much easier it is on your kids now. Tell them with so little left to do when you die they can have that much more time to party.

Ready to welcome you back, as well as all the other summer Gillys. The old "hood" is too quiet.

Meredith and Dave
Glad you two had that lovely pool to keep cool in.

We have just had two scorching hot days, the second day it even reached 74! - the sun was shinning, the sky was blue, wild flowers are all in bloom and the birds were singing, makes you glad to be alive.

We didn't dive in the pool though, for 1. we would have banged our head on the bottom (1ft deep) and 2. we would probably have gotten frostbite when we got out.

Take care and we will see you soon.

Hi Jimbo,
We have not managed to find anyone to teach us Colonial English yet, but we don't give up easily and we will keep looking.

Had our first Golf Game since getting back to the UK today, but please don't ask how we did, one of us sucked, but it wasn't Her Ladyship, she did quite well.

It was a very hilly course at a place called Tapton, which is the former stately home of George Stephenson, who built the worlds first public railway around 1830 and invented the worlds 'Standard Gauge' railway.

We were shattered when we finished pulling the cart up hill and down dale.

See the pictures below;

Picture 1 shows the view down to the 1st tee and you play back up the hill.
The Church in the background, is known as 'The Crooked Spire' and dates back to Saxon times (~1000yrs).

Picture 2 shows Her Ladyship pitching onto the 7th tee, which again shows how high we are.

vcm_s_kf_m160_160x104-jpg

Hope to see you soon
