I'm also looking forward to meeting new people and hearing their stories. This seems like the perfect place for that!

As someone in their mid-twenties, I'm grateful for the opportunity to move there. Is there any information I should know about living in The Villages at my age?

Thank you!

You didn't disclose if you (family) are buying or renting. The Villages is huge with dozens of very different 'villages' and home styles to choose from. Many people just 'dive-in' and it worked out great for them. But not everyone is that lucky.

I’ll definitely make the best out of it, I know what respect is.

Definitely! And that’s what I tell my parents, it’s not my environment and I’m willing to follow the rules to a tee, because people pay so much money to be here.

I’ve always had a great time being around older people and I have a huge admiration for the community TV built. I wouldn’t be excited to move anywhere else, it’s the safety factor and how everything is coordinated that’s unlike any other environment.

I would laugh if I got there and I was treated miserably. I hope that’s not the case.

I’ve always wanted to try pickleball, it sounds like fun! I’m super hyped for the walking paths and cycling too.

A bit of advice: There will be many residents who will welcome you with open arms. However, there will be some who will not like your choice to live here. These folks are set in their ways and do not like change. Always remember: it is NOT YOU. They would have a tough time accepting anyone your age. Keep a good attitude. Eventually, they will accept you. Their bark is much bigger than their bite.

Welcome! I hope you enjoy!

I enjoy interacting with younger people and welcome you to the community. People can connect younger folks with loud music and screaming kids. If you enjoy a peaceful community, there should be no problem.

You are not allowed to use any of the "adult" pools. You have to be 30 or older for those. You'll be limited to family pools, where people are welcome to bring their young grandchildren when they come to visit.

You won't be allowed to join any of the competitive sports clubs. I believe there's an age limit of 55 or older for those (there might be exceptions).

Other than D.J. & Gina's, the closest nightclub (dance club) is in Ocala. The music in the Squares stop at 9pm. So if you're a weekend party kinda person - learn to not be one.

Prepare for your neighbors to ask you to help them with physical stuff, like pulling weeds, changing lightbulbs, moving furniture, etc. You could probably make a living doing it.

Having read the rest of the posts, here's some adds to my previous:

Cycling in the Villages is - dangerous. You can cycle on the MMPs and that's fine, but it's NOTHING like cycling in Ohio. The Villages is basically land-locked by major 6-lane highways with 35+mph speed limits. They are /not/ bicycle-friendly. So your cycling experience would be - incredibly limited. Unless you packed up your car with your bike and drove it somewhere else. Beyond the Villages is a whole lot of rural nothingness with roads that might or might not be paved, and the ones that are paved, might or might not have potholes and crumbling at the edges due to erosion and lack of curbs. If you have a hybrid with good shocks in the forks, you'll be fine. It's beautiful countryside out here, but it's not really bicycle friendly, other than those MMPs (which gets a lot of flack from some golf cart drivers and pedestrians but it's really all just a lot of posturing).

The walking paths are also limited. I believe the longest round-trip one is a mile. There's no hiking - no mountains, not even all that much in the way of hills, compared to what you're used to. It's also stupendously hot and humid during parts of the year (like now). If you don't have a camelback, get one and strap it on when you go for a walk or a ride.

Get zinc/titanium oxide-based sunscreen - use it before leaving the house, and add a bit more to shoulders, nose, neck, and the backs of your knees when you reach your "turn-around" point to head back. If you've never used this kind of sunscreen - it doesn't have that horrible smell that the usual ones have, and it doesn't come off easily with just soap. You can loosen it with a few cotton-balls saturated with micellar water before you get into the shower and then soap up. Skin cancer is no joke in Florida. The surgery to remove it keeps the Dermatologists here happy and fat.

I'm not sure how you will find it and us. I am in my eighties and many of my friends are as well and not as physically active as we once were but many of us enjoy the socializations at the rec centers and square and some of us are very good at music and art and debate. I am sometimes impatient with some not well covered indifference toward, and outright avoidance of people who are the most senior here in The Villages, but I have found genuine interest and warm enjoyment from many of the young people who live and work here. They seem to think I am amusing, and I like to think they believe me to be kind of wise as well.

I see that you do have two qualities that are needed at any age; restraint and good manners. I wish you happiness and hope you find it here or whereever you choose to be. I would have thought you would have had a job secured here before you moved, so I am prejudging you a little bit. Big fan of the work ethic me and folks of my age.

When you tell people that you live here with your parents, you will probably get some raised eyebrows. There are quite a few enabling parents here who let their law breaking, or drug addicted grown children (who should be living on their own) live here with them. And not many fall for the "I live with my parents because I have to take care of them" routine. That's the same line that the freeloading law breakers use.

Just an opinion...which is what you asked for.

Lobby your family to look towards Middleton/Eastport. You’re a young guy....and I’m assuming, your parents are in that entry level demo.

You are correct that there are limited walking paths, however, in the southern section, there are miles and miles of recreational paths that do not allow golf carts but do allow cycling, walking, rollerblading, etc, etc.

First off, you’ll love it. I said earlier there are plenty of younger people who not only live here but work here so you’ll definitely meet people. Obviously in TV most are older. In the northern part I think they’re much older and sort of “set in their ways” but in the south areas I see young people quite a bit.

There are some people on this site (more than some) who are quite negative about most things. Once you move here your village will have a facebook page and that’s much more friendly overall and more informative to your area. Good luck and welcome to the villages.
