Ha! I thought that would get your attention.
But seriously, one of the reasons for getting a CYV is because I like to sunbathe au natural and plan on putting in a hot tub, also for use au natural. However, the gate into the courtyard is not locked and it seems like the landscapers etc. are used to just waltzing in when they come to do their things. Is there a prohibition against putting locks on the gates to the courtyard? I can put a sign on the door saying something like, "please ring doorbell before entering," but you know how people would just not see signs like that. |

The one problem with locking your gate is: If one of the pest companies is spraying my house they have to go through your gate to spray the one side of my house or if I'm having my washed down (siding) again access is needed. Unless I can give you advanced warning.

Could you lock the gate from the inside while you are "indisposed" then unlock when finished? I know we will have to wait till our bottlebrush bushes get taller before we can do any of that. Seems like our wall is a little too low for my comfort zone.

I should clarify, we have a corner lot so we can lock ours w/o having any conflict w the neihboring CYV.

We kept ours locked with a pad lock all the time for the same reason. When the pest guy came he would ring the door bell to have us unlock it so he could do his job.
BTW we did cut our own grass so the pest guy was the one that needed to enter. |

We have lived in a courtyard villa for 13 years and have locked our gate for almost as long. One evening (it was dark) we heard someone open our gate while we were sitting in our lanai. The intruder was about 1/3 of the way down the courtyard walkway when my husband surprised him. He turned and bolted out of the gate before hubby could stop him. We suspect that this guy was looking for an unoccupied residence to break into. Since we do all of our own pest control, except for termites, and we have a rock landscape with shrubs that we can care for mostly by ourselves, we rarely have to unlock the gate for anyone. Our neighbor knows to ask us to unlock the gate when he wants to access that side of his villa, and HE locks HIS gate, too! So, unless you are expecting someone who needs access to your rear or side yard I see no reason why you can't lock your gate.

Lock it if you want. The pest spraying guy will learn to ring your bell and ask permission.

Thanks for all the input. I was afraid there was a rule or covenant or just community opposition to locks on the doors because of the shared ownership. We'll be doing most of our own landscaping when we move anyway.
Also nice to know there are other "clothing optional" people in TV. ![]() |
