Most places I have lived were not improved. Most places became over developed, over populated, under protected, polluted. Overall quality of life diminished. Crimes increased. Stress increased and health suffered because of it.

Where I grew up, leaders accomplished a lot of great things to make life better for everyone. Residents appreciated improvements, especially ones that were hard to do. There were a few "don't change my life" people, but once they saw firsthand, many became idea generators who created new suggestions. I had no reason to think that level of critical thought cannot happen here too.
Just because something may be hard to do, or "that's the way we always have done it", doesn't automatically mean it should not change. Obstructing change for those reasons is foolish. Look at history. Cars replaced horses. Fuel injection replaced carburetors. Computers replaced slide rules. LED bulbs replaced tungsten filament bulbs. Things evolve. People can choose to help, or obstruct. My choice is clear. |

There is no reasoning with people that are 100% negative, 100% of the time. Who are against everything they don't understand. Who never show an open mind. Therein lies the root of many problems in TV.
I expect a few "move" comments next. |

The wild animal kingdom is finding it harder and harder to survive under us humans, as we diminish their habitats. Extermination of species because they may be a problem is not the way to go. Removing predator species of any description, increases the prey species to plague numbers. Given your argument and solution, all that will survive are roaches and rats! |

As to your expectations of "move" comments, it is one of many ways to deal with your phobia. |

The fabulous wildlife is one of the reasons we love it here, and that includes the alligators. But then, we have enough sense not to put ourselves in a position where the alligators are likely to be a problem.
As far as telling people to move, if someone wants to eradicate or even reduce substantially an entire species in a given area because of something that is very unlikely to happen, it's not unreasonable to suggest that those people might be happier elsewhere. |

You do realize that thousands of people fish & swim in Florida lakes and rivers that also have alligators. I was kayaking at Three Sisters Springs/Kings Bay/Crystal River last week and there were literally over 100 swimmers, snorkelers, and scuba divers. It is a popular spot to see manatees but as with all bodies of water in Florida there are also alligators. Next week I am going to Juniper Springs where swimming is also popular and there are also alligators. I am also taking a kayak paddle down the Silver Springs river known for its glass bottom boat tours, alligators, monkeys and manatees. The woman who was killed recently was foolish enough to walk her dog by the waters edge. The alligator went after the dog but it ran away & in front of the woman who was then a target of opportunity. Humans are not alligator's preferred food but alligators will definitely go after a dog. People just need to use some common sense when they are in a wildlife setting. Bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars, wild boars, etc. share our spaces but this is no reason to avoid a hike in the forest unless all of these predators are removed and killed. As for The Villages, stay on the paths, don't allow your pet near the water and you will be safe & sound. |
