Oh Halle! Since you bought both designs, I definitely think YOU should be President of the Do These Pants Make My Butt Look Big or What club.
All we need to go with the pants are hats like this (I think I've caught a touch of Olympic Fever. I heard they were giving free vaccinations at Colony yesterday, but I missed out)

Is anybody watching curling tonight? Wow! Canada's Kevin Martin is like the Tiger Woods of curling! He's amazing.

I thought we would hear from Barefoot about curling, but I bet she is in front of her TV with a case of the vapors.

I've loved every minute of the olympics. I so admire every athlete. I can't imagine how much discipline it takes to prepare for competition. I hate to see it end.

There is no way I can get excited, not even a little bit, over a Olympic hockey game staffed by professional hockey players. This makes a mockery of amateur athletics. Really, now.
Think about it. Pros playing on amateur ice, with a straight face yet. |

In these days it is very difficult to find an athlete in any sport in the olympics who is not a professional. They all are paid to do what they do. Some of them make a lot more than the hockey players. I have no problem with it. It certainly evens the tables from when it was the Soviet block professionals against amateurs.

Three things.......
1. The games were fun and I love watching the skaters, all of the different events. Probably cause I always had a great deal of difficulty skating. 2. Have to agree with Tony......the hockey game was fun...but they are professionals and that doesn't seem right. Just the same as with the summer games basketball teams. 3. Why on earth did NBC just cut off the closing ceremonies.......so we could watch Jerry Seinfelds new game show......beyond annoying.

Olympic Good Sports
What we like most about the Olympics:
1. Seeing coverage & becoming passionate fans of sports we never see - in the winter sports it's curling of course, we got seriously hooked on curling in 2006. Say it ain't so...no curling team in TV! 2. Fast paced exciting hockey games where play is like Stanley Cup finals. Letting the "pro's" play for their home countries was the right move. 3. Alpine ski events, particularly downhill & jumping/flying which don't seem to get the coverage they used to. 4. Skating races. Never knew this was such a contact/collision sport! 5. Luge & bob-sled races. Wow...impressive win! What we don't like about the Olympics. 1. Losing alpine ski coverage to snowboarding events? We were unable to find any downhill race coverage at all? Did anyone actually see a whole Bode Miller run...live? 2. Too much time spent on background/human interest stories (and as usual, commercials). 3. Too many snowboarding events - too much coverage; is this really the demographic (teens & 20's) watching the Olympics? Bring on the summer Olympics, the Greco-Roman wrestling and the water polo!

Watched a lot of the curling.
Really enjoyed the curling matchs but also saw bits and pieces of many of the other events.
There seem to be many top athletes at both the Summer and Winter Olympics who are far from anything resembling amateurs. The cost of much of the Winter Olympic equipment and training for each individual Vancouver contestant could probably buy a nice house in the Villages. What kind of bugs me is the nationalism I saw whenever I was watching something through the NBC lens. It also seemed heavily fixated on who would win the medals rather than who was doing the competing. |

I agree Tony. The gold medal game was exciting but it's a bit like watching the NHL all stars. I'd like to see them go back to all amateurs although strict rules would have to apply in order to prevent the old soviet army teams and similar organizations from taking part.

I understand it was very good from my Canadian friends. Evidently they didn't have the NBC feed ?
