Great one's and of course everyone knows what Jersey Mike's stands for....We could go on and on for hours with the list. We grew up in Wall Twp and graduated from there in 64, Stayed local all our lives and now reside in Brick. Where are you from?

Grew up in Milburn/Short Hills and relocated to the shore to attend Monmouth College in '65; married and lived in WLB til we moved to Long Branch in '80 so hubby could serve as Fire Chief...been here ever since! Mumsy recently sold summer home in Chadwick Beach - killed me - was beach front - and we all know they're not makin' any more of that!

Taylor Ham is way to formal.......We call it Pork Roll and when you put it on a hard roll with melted american cheese, sliced raw onion and ketchup you know you're in heaven.

This may be a little off course, but in light of what I quoted above, I just have to tell you this.

We lived in Phila. from the time I was 7 until I was 12. As it happened our senior class took a trip to the World's Fair in NY (1964). While in NY, a lot of the kids in my class from rural SW Virginia had a lot of trouble understanding the NY dialect. We all spoke Southerneese and they spoke Yankee. There were several times that I had to kinda be an interpreter, since I had been exposed to the Yankee lingo in the past.

Lived in the Northern Lake Region from age 7 til 16. Never ate Taylor Ham until last year when my nephew harassed me about it. Loved the Shore still go there whenever I can, in fact I will be there at the end of the month.

It was a great childhood.

First time poster. Was reading this and had to write something. Original 609'er from LBI (Ship Bottom). For my S.Jersey and Philly people I have Two words. Scapple and Boost (Tak-A-Boost).

It isn't that Taylor Ham is too formal. We just want to suggest that it isn't really mystery meat as opposed to scrapple which is definitely mystery meat (and we love it only because it remains a mystery!!!). And wasn't there a Taylor Ham shop on the board walk in Point? Hm-m-m, maybe it was Taylor Pork Roll shop.

It is a round roll of pork that has been cured, smoked, and spiced. It has a slight sour tang and is salty. Spiciness and tanginess vary by brand. The rolls are sold wrapped in cloth then in plastic.

It's probably as good for you as scrapple, sausage, or corned beef hash from a can!

What is the difference between Taylor Ham and Taylor Pork Roll? The proper name according to the manufacturer is, "John Taylor's Original Taylor Pork Roll, " but many of us in Jersey call it "Taylor Ham." Think of it as Kleenex is to tissues, Taylor Ham is to Pork Roll.

According to Eric of Taylor Provisions, people use the two names interchangeably.

The name debate seems to be between North Jersey locals calling it Taylor Ham, and South Jersey and Philadelphians calling it "Pork Roll."

Straining my memory to recall the shop on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant...was it between Frank's Arcade and the RipTide? I know that Kohr's Custard was!

Wow! We could really go on with this "down the shore" stuff for a long time. Funny how my sister lives in Ocean Grove but somehow we don't consider that "down the shore".
