I told a large group of villages friends a couple of nights ago that someone on TOTV said that he was charged 22K for a new roof and everyone was incredulous. Someone had a new roof put on a rental property recently, a patio villa, and it was a little shy of 6K.

The OP would have been clearer if he told us how much he was charged per square for the job they did along with what they charged to tear off the old roof and subsequent damage which should have included the plywood. The insurance company has the right to deduct for depreciation based on the age of the roof

I dealt with a roofing company out of PA over two years over their faulty design. They lied to me repeatedly. So I sued them in court and they immediately called and wanted to replace my roof. I told them that I found a reputable manufacturer and installer and that I wanted $$$$$$$$$which was the cost of a new roof less depreciation. They paid me immediately because they knew they we wrong and they knew that they could be subject to additional damages if they refused to pay.

The kicker was their representative who lied to my face about finding defective shingles and told me the 25-30-40 year warranty on shingles was meaningless and that shingles generally last 15 years but that their demographics told them that people move on the average of 7 years and hence never collect on the warranty. I told him a judge would be happy to hear that evidence.

I asked the installer for a crew that would use hammer and nails rather than an air gun. they sent me a crew of Mexicans that could not speak English and I can tell you they worked with precision ,pride and when they were finished I could not find even a nail on the ground. Quality workers, quality company. I gave them a bonus

Which is probably why I was pretty anxious the day my hail damaged roof was to be replaced. I came home yesterday to find a dumpster and pile of roofing materials at the top of my driveway. They had apparently been 'Unable to contact me' but I called them and "yes tomorrow they will be there". So I decided to work from home - which is a good thing.

I sat outside while some of my code was running. The crew arrived in a 'very tired' large van stocked with everything but the kitchen sink. I noticed as someone delivered 4 sheets of osb (today's cheap plywood). I didn't expect any wood to need to be replaced as the old roof was a mere 8 years old. Before I knew it they had a circular saw out and cut one of my sheets ...

I asked why and they indicated the while wood wasn't rotten was a little buckled. Their English is enough to get buy My Spanish is high school and unpracticed. So who cleared this? No answer. Fearing a sham I called my contact and verbally blasted him. He came over to my house and we continued to have words. You aren't very friendly he said. I said I am ****ed I have to watch your guys.. He left in a huff.

I came outside not ten minutes later and I noticed they were putting the rubber ice shield on top of the rhino paper (today's tar paper). That would essentially make the ice shield useless. Another call and "we are sending our QC guy". Rahul arrives looks up and says yeah "its wrong" They tore the old stuff off and redid it. Raul didn't finish high school but he knows roofing. I make them redo the step flashing that they were inclined to leave (just not good work)

Raul tells me he was told stay and make sure its right; I have established myself as a knowledgable angry vocal client and they fear the bad review. I am just the guy to penn it; I watch as their air compressor hose flys off the compressor several times. It wont stay on.. Then their ladder device to get shingle bundles to the roof refuses to start..Raul sells his nail gun to one of the crew as his is failing...

I don't want to work from home tomorrow but how can I trust them. How I hate being the heavy - when I lose my temper I don't like myself. Why is it you are truly lucky to find craftsmanship today.. Yeah can you believe the roof was over $22k. Nearly 8pm dark and they just left; I feel drained.

I had Batterby do mine, $2800., and they did all you had done, i shopped around….

I was thinking the same thing. I had the roof replaced on my 2,000 sq ft home back in Massachusetts and it was about $5,000.
