What do you think of the earlier DST start? I love it.

I hate it!!! Pick a time and leave it alone. The government had no business getting involved with this. All they managed to do is screw up all of the VCRs/ DVDs, internal programs that required changes for the new time changes.
They have better things to do.

lol, Z. But it will still change only once in spring and once in fall, no matter what date it starts.

We had a start and stop time but the government decided that we should start two weeks early and stop two weeks later. This screwed up all of the electronic devices that were set to the original times.
A lot of things had to be changed to correct the new times. The government has better things to do that to mess with simple things. They never consider the side effects of what they do unless it is to make more money for their districts. Have they ever considered the effects of replacing the incandescent bulb with that new bulb? It is not as bright and it requires HASMAT to get rid of a broken bulb.

PTurner,
I love it too! Now we can be involved in outdoor activities until 8:00 at night! Long beautiful days and shorter nights. What could be better? ![]() I actually dont know anyone who likes the standard time. Its depressing to have it get dark so early, makes me feel like going to bed at 7:00. Yukk! In fact, I wish they would Just leave the clocks alone so that it doesnt get dark so darn early in the winter months! A psychiatrist once told me that in the fall when they set the clocks back again, her office is much fuller. Good for business, bad for our emotional health.

I know there are some other old St. Louisans on this board who might remember this, and maybe some of you also had this in other big cities:
When I was a kid, only St. Louis and Kansas City (as I remember it) had DST in the summer, while the rest of Missouri stayed on standard time. We referred to the city as being on "fast time" and the rest of the state on "slow time." If we would travel outside the metro area, my father would always point out that we were now in the "slow time" part of the state and wouldn't have "fast time" until we got back to the city. Of course, we felt we were superior to the poor "slow timers" because for half the year, we were "ahead" of them. As for now, chalk me up in the column favoring daylight saving time because of the longer evenings of light. Even at this age, I like to think I'm still "fast."

I lived for many years in Hawaii with no daylight savings time. Didn't need it, didn't miss it. If you are in business world wide all the different times are hard enough, add in, daylight savings in some countries and not others, and with different start dates, it makes it a mess. The airlines in Asia never get it right they always call my husband at the wrong hours and the Boeing switchboard has to track him down, they think they are calling between 9 and 5 but miss him all the time.

Note: Do you know that some times throughout the world are adjusted on the half hour? For example India, the world's second most populous country utilizes an offset time zone. India is a half-hour ahead of Pakistan to the west and a half-hour behind Bangladesh to the east. Never knew that! |

Nope. I still have two old VCRs that switch on the old dates. I turned the automatic time change off and have to reset them manually. There is also the stove, microwave, the two bedside alarm clocks and the fourteen other clocks (yes fourteen - my wife likes clocks) plus the sprinkler system, the thermostat and the car and the cart and the four TVs and two watches.

I'm with nONIE. It's easy to look on the "bright" side of this one: Sunlight 'til 8, even later in the summer.
And Z, if I were there, I'd come over and change all your clocks for you. gladly. ![]() |

Here's another vote for just leaving it alone and NEVER changing the time. We don't need blackouts because of subs/planes off of our coastlines or to give farmers more daylight in the am. Personally, I hate getting up and starting my day in the dark. I can't wait until our days are long enough to give us sunlight both in the am and pm. Until that time of the year, I vote we leave things alone and, when that time of the year comes, there's no need to change anything. I don't want to lose an hour's sleep and I have no need to gain an hour's sleep.
Do you get the feeling I really, really, REALLY wish they'd just keep their cotton-pickin' paws off the time?

Amen Red!
It infuriates me( and I think Im pretty easy going!) every time they fall back! I see absolutely no advantage to it getting dark at 4;30 pm in the fall and winter months. People up North dont even have enough daylight when they get home from work to rake the leaves, or take the dog for a walk. Working women have to walk out of their workplace after dark to their cars, especially dangerous in the cities where there are parking garages, and the list goes on and on. The depression rate increases(seasonal depression). Do you think if we all wrote our congressman they might consider leaving the dang clocks alone? A psychiatrist I know suggested this.
