Targeting American citizens just because they came from New York (or New Jersey, Connecticut, Louisiana or wherever) is a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment. And I suggest the reason so many forum members support it is because they aren't subject to it. How about if Florida started to do what China did. Go door-to-door and take people's temperatures. And if you have an elevated temperature from a cold or other minor illness, be forcibly taken from your home and quarantined. Use the same arguments in this topic to justify or refute.

There is a law on the books from the Spanish flu pandemic of about a hundred years ago that empowers the CDC to quarantine areas to prevent disease spread. Read it here:

The governor could declare martial law but probably will not. It would amount to political suicide.

How in the world would the people you refer to even know that? They would need to be tested.

They are fleeing because they don't want to be infected, they're hoping (not knowing) they're not infected etc. But the stat I saw two days ago indicated that 25% of NYC people tested positive.

Total cases of Covid-19 in all of USA is about 125,000 total population of NYC is 8,500,000 approximately. So if every Covid case was in NYC it would be around 1.5%.

But:

Yes, but that assumes equal geographic distribution of the refugees. The NY / FL axis has been around for a long time.

I don't have the source at hand but I the stat I recall said about 25% of NYers who tested showed up positive. Figures for other locations were like 5-10%

In any event, best for everyone for people to just stay put instead of moving around and increasing the risk of spread. Just my opinion.

It wouldn't bother me to where I would want to hang em high. Besides most New Yorkers that are here have Florida plates anyway, so how would you know?
