It could have come on so suddenly that having neighbors around wouldn't have helped. I hope your friend doesn't blame herself for not being there. The what-ifs could tear one up.
My condolences to your friend nd you. |

I am sorry Asianthree for you and for her.
I feel someone here in our neighborhood would have noticed because we are always doing something WITH someone. I know she is thinking, how could I have kept this from happening. Anyone would. I am so sorry.

I experienced a similar situation while living in California. I lived in an appartment building and a single woman in the next appartment died while watching TV. It was about 3 or 4 days before anyone noticed. Eventually, the manager opened the door with her key. The woman was found sitting up in her chair and the TV was still on. It was very sad to think that she didn't have anyone to check on her.
It took a long time for the removal of the body. I asked the manager what was taking so long. She said, "when a person is found sitting up and rigor mortis sets in, they have to cut the limbs to straighten them out before removing the body." That was 43 years ago. Be a good friend and do whatever you can to keep her busy. Plan on doing things together to take her mind off of what happened. |

'Sudden Death' Robs Us of The Chance to Say Goodbye......
I still remember getting the phone call many moons ago from my childhood friend's husband, saying she had passed away suddenly overnight, at age 39. She wasn't alone at the time, but in the emergency room of her hospital, with her husband at her side......but it was still unexpected, nevertheless.......enlarged heart. I got the call the next morning...... Long terminal illnesses give loved ones , and the patient themselves, a chance for closure and goodbyes.........whereas "sudden death" is always difficult. Happening to such a young person, as your friend's husband....is very hard. |
