And interestingly, the Tiger Woods Foundation calls itself a "nationwide character development program". As such, Tiger's dalliances with trashy women have struck a nerve with the public. If he was an ordinary guy we would all leave him and his wife alone and hope they could work it out, but his celebrity status will obviously make him a target of public discussion and scrutiny. You can't get paid millions in advertising endorsement dollars to have your name plastered on all sorts of products, and expect the public to ignore you. The money comes with a certain responsibility.

I hear you ...but a couple of points to ponder. First Russ had a great post on how many "opportunities" must come Tiger's way. That doesn't excuse him, but...

We will never know if Jack or Arnie had any sideline romances - the press in their heyday was not the 24/7 paparazzi driven gossip-driven medium then that it is today. Even Phil doesn't garner 10% of the media scutiny that Tiger does.

And I really take exception to the "trashy women" descriptive. Maybe she made a mistake too. Why does the woman always bear the majority of the responsibility?

Calling someone trashy by no means implies she bears the majority of the responsibility. In fact my post said specifically my opinion about Tiger's responsibiliyy. And I call anyone who knowingly fools around with a married man, especially one who has 2 young children, trashy. Just my opinion.

As far as your statement regarding "opportunities that come Tiger's way, but....", its true -if you're a celebrity, you will have tons of gold digger type women throwing themselves at you. It comes with the territory. In my book that doesn't make it okay to cheat on your wife with professional party girls. Again, my opinion.

Taj - I never meant to allude that opportunity made cheating OK.

And calling someone trashy greatly oversimplifies the situation... because what we don't know is if this was a mistake made once or a few tims with the same person - or a pattern of irresponsible behavior.

Also in my discussions with some older friends at work today they mentioned how Arnie's rep isn't really that clean. I don't know if they were referring to anything moral like fidelity or other things but there is a felling that reporters used to cover for him. The point is that like Kate mentioned we will never know due to the lack of 'social' reporters back then compared to now.

I don't look up to any golfer based on what kind of 'man' he is. I like Tiger and Phil and... because of their games. I wish I had their games - not their morals.
