Did you ever notice how many people take a shower before getting into a hot tub or pool? Did you ever hear about Depends? GROSS!!!
Do you think running water over you cleanses? How do you know they didn't shower before the came with soap and hot water? Wouldn't it nice if all public places had germ detection system? Sometimes it may be the water at public places as you pointed out.

I was in one once and only once and will never go in one again. A private jetted tub in the bathroom is the only way to go. I agree on not using public restrooms unless absolutely necessary.

Because your bathtub doesn't throw soothing jets of water on your aching joints, and the water doesn't stay hot.

I don't have one, but enjoyed one (after tennis) in the women's locker room at our fitness club in Michigan. It was always pristine. I would not jump into any old public hot tub.
