Talk of the vaccine is VERY premature. Best case for the Joe Ordinaries, like you and I, is to be delivered by Dec 2021. Delivery is going to be difficult because it needs to be stored at negative 100 degrees F. The DPA will FINALLY need to be activated to produce enough freezer equipment for ALL US hospitals to be vaccine delivery centers. Also, 2 doses needed. And right now only 50% of the people would choose to take that vaccine. So, a huge education undertaking will be needed to convince the public of its effectiveness. The whole thing is too PREMATURE to even discuss intelligently at this early stage. Many things will change in that time period. It is a fluid situation.

Use of masks: Again too premature to get too opinionated about that. Social norms are always changing. It may be a statement today to NOT wear a mask - but, in a few months, everyone COULD (?) be wearing one. I, personally, hope that the price of N-95s drops down significantly and is available to everyone - again the DPA is much needed - and it could mean needed manufacturing jobs in the US!

Smile Not going to wear the mask !

I don't recall any discussions about wearing a mask AFTER the vaccine is available. Just curious as to whether or not folks will still believe that a mask mandate should be enforced. Not to get into a political discussion, the new reign seems to believe in a mask mandate and I was wondering if anyone thinks it is necessary if a vaccine is available.

After I get the vaccine I'm not going to wear the mask. I'm going to look for a tee shirt that says: "Not wearing a mask. I had the Vaccine."

I will be happy to get rid on my mask once I get the vaccine. The chances of my getting would be 10% or less and the chances of my giving it to someone else would be even less than that.

The idea of a vaccine is to get us back to normal.
I would NOT take my CV medical advice from people that encourage Villagers to meet indoors during a plague. Indoors is 15 times as bad as outdoors. Villagers should not act like they are 20 years old. You can act "normal" when it is all over and EVERYONE is vaccinated. You CAN act normal now if you want to, but you are a danger to your fellow human beings, especially the old ones.

So once the vaccine is shipped here and stored at -100 degrees and you have your two doses, whether that is next week, next month or November of 2021, would you continue to wear your mask?
Not irrelevant at all.

My expectation would be that once a vaccine has been administered to the proper number of individuals in the population, that the wearing of masks would be much less important. But I expect to follow the guidance of the CDC and manufacturer of the vaccine if/when that happens. Am guessing that once a vaccine has been administered to the proper number of individuals in the population, if you are a normal, healthy person there would likely not be guidance to need to wear a mask. But if you were not so healthy or had certain conditions, you might be advised to continue wearing a medical grade (i.e. N95) mask for your own protection -- as you would to avoid catching any kind of illness. But just guessing. Guidance from the CDC will be needed.

Do you think a button would do?

Since I will not be threatening anymore, they will have no reason to demand that I wear a mask. As a matter of fact, I forgot to put my mask back on when I entered Publix a while back and no one even mentioned it to me. I suddenly realized that I did not have it on and reached into my pocket and put it on. I mentioned it to one employee that was watching me, and asked why they did not say anything to me. The employee said that they were instructed NOT to mention it and that they could not enforce mask wearing. After reading a lot of these forum threads on masks and the virus, I am no longer wearing my mask as much. As a matter of fact, I do not wear a mask in any restaurant and will not wear a mask unless the business I wish to enter posts a sign.
Don't get me wrong, I do not disparage anyone that wishes to protect themselves (or others) and wishes to wear a mask. And I do make it a habit to distance myself from others, wearing or not wearing a mask. I am just not going to allow hysteria and paralyzing fear to ruin my lifestyle.
I understand that there is a better than 90% success rate for the vaccine. Kudos for this administration and their fast pacing the vaccine creation. I am amazed at the fast response I have observed from our leaders in their effort to restore a depleted PPE stockpile and the corporations that were recruited to mass produce all these protective items that have been needed to combat the pandemic.
SO, the answer to the question is: Once the vaccine is available, I will NOT wear a mask. And I won't be wearing one during flu season either. Just the same, stay your distance from me.
Pfizer specifically said that they took no (ZERO) money from the US government. It was developed by a small German Company that partnered with Pfizer for some reason(?) maybe money, maybe better distribution. Praise the German scientists if you want to praise something that is correct and not BS propaganda!

I will still wear a mask in grocery stores, pharmacies and in crowds. I wore a mask as a surgical RN my whole life and rarely got a cold, never got the flu.
As I age I figure it’s a good rule going forward.

Absolutely true! Good job educating TV Land to the REAL facts. It is difficult to counter propaganda.

What a desperate attempt to throw a curveball and obscure real facts. If you do not like the facts, make up your own narrative.............desperate!

Except that Pfizier is promised 1.95 Billion for distribution once there is approval. If you think Operation Warp speed didn't have an effect on their calculus you're mistaken.
They didn't take any money _YET_, but they will make a tremendous profit once it's approved.
