It appears that our beloved eagle nest at Norfolk Botanicle Gardens will be torn down. This is a debacle! The chance of an air strike is low and the Norfolk male will continue to build a nest there since they have nested there for many years.

I've spent countless hours watching this Eagle Cam. As DM Has pointed out, the male eagle will continue to nest in the area he knows as home. It's a sad decision.

I agree that the decision is not a very thought out and intelligent one. Nature will do what nature does. I will miss the cam as I really enjoyed watching the Norfolk one especially.

Every year from January to May, I would be glued to the Norfolk website. The Site had excellent moderators explaining eagle behavior and educating the viewers. I will miss this excellent Eagle Cam. I've also enjoyed the Decorah Cam and the Hornby Island Cam. But the Norfolk was my favorite and I'm sad to see the nest removed.

I'm sad to see it go, too. Thanks to Bare, I was glued to it as well. May the Eagle families there continue to soar.

I will miss the eagle cam also. I sincerely believe the eagles will stick around though, just no cam to watch them. I believe that removing a few nests is not going to make them go away. I was at the gardens last March and it is a most beautiful place, just too perfect for the eagles with the lakes and forests and gardens. I bet we hear of a new nest being built. There are so many other cams to watch, all you have to do is Google eagle cams and a lot of sites come up. Norfolk was my favorite also and I will truly miss it.

I think you're absolutely right ... the eagles will stick around, that is their territory, and they will build another nest. Hopefully this time it will be further from the airport, and the Norfolk Cam will be reinstalled.

Last year was fascinating because the male eagle, who had lost his mate, then proceeded to mate with four different young eagles, who seemed to take turns spending time with him in the nest. However none of them laid eggs. We were all hoping for eaglets this year. And I still haven't given up hope!

Default speaking of eagles.....

Has anyone else seen a very large dark brown bird that we've seen eating along side the road on Buena Vista between 466 and El Camino and then again soaring over El Camino Dr.? Saw it last week and hope it is an eagle or at least an osprey.

Have seen several hawks, but this is not a hawk. Much larger.

Maybe a Buzzard. They are usually seen in flocks while feeding while Eagles are mostly solitary when feeding.

Default Bald Eagle Sighting

On Christmas Day while passing the Amelia Pool I had a positive sighting of a beautiful Bald Eage soaring over the pool area. First one I have seen since moving here on November 1st.

Since the Norfolk nest closed, I've been looking for another Eagle Cam.
CFrance told me about this one.
Norfolk was top notch because of the on-going chat and Moderators answering questions.
But this site satisfies my eagle craving.

I apologize if it's already been discussed.
It's new to me, and I'm delighted.

Eagle fan.
