Lots of conjecture, but I am going to maintain that these are facts...

.....We, along with other countries, have been invaded cyber wise by at least one foreign country. I speak not only of the election cycle but any issue that is national (guns for example)

.....We know how they did it, and we know who did it.

.....They feed false information and lies to sow discord where and how they want to. This false information and hate talk, to any person with mental instability, can be what pushes them over the edge. Meanwhile, those without those instabilities are making decision on who to fear and what to fear based on false premise.

We watched a number of hearings where we find that FACEBOOK alone was the biggest NEWS source for most, and we also found that much of that news is NOT TRUE, and is meant to disrupt our society or whatever country is being invaded.

THIS we KNOW.....THESE ARE FACTS. Not conjecture

Yet, we do very little, if anything at all.

YES, news cycles are a part.....yes we need to be careful of our borders (except we ignore the cyber border under attack).

This is not going to stop unless we do something about it. They are not spreading joy on social media....they are spreading hate on social media.....they DO influence our country and they DID invade.

Is social media all the blame....heck no.......our reluctance to admit we are being played, and our reluctance to even fight back is also part of it.

WILL now walk away from this because some have made up their mind based on something which is never stated. This is based on factual information and I, for one at least, cannot understand the reluctance to fight back against something that can kill minds

I really hate to say it, but it seems to me at one time the mentally ill were not the danger to society they are now. I suspect this Canadian citizen ultimately will be diagnosed as suffering from this disability. The Canadian news sources do a " wonderful " job, like their US counterparts, of covering mass killings to the point of ad nauseam. US news is a big part of their coverage since so many Canadians live near the border. I do not know what sets the mentally ill off, but suppose it might have something to do with running with a news story and beating it to death.

Come on, life is a risk every day of our lives. Not every threat (real or not) can be prevented.

My guess is that the various Sheriffs' Offices that guard the various Squares here in the Villages are thinking about what might happen. And making plans of some kind. Some of them probably read Talk of the Villages and I follow Marion, Lake and Sumter County Sheriffs' offices on Facebook and can talk with them. I do sometimes direct them to certain TOTV threads as well. As should other concerned people.

The mentally ill are usually the victims/survivors of crimes. Not those who do it.

I tend to be a REALIST, within reason - and a bit of a "Better safe than sorry" guy too.

Bollards at pedestrian entrances to the dance floor areas would IMO be a reasonable safety measure, and would not require too many and not too $$$$.

But I can foresee some saying -rightfully- people can and will walk right into them and cause injury. Lawsuits. I wince when thinking of a guy hitting one dead-center. Would limit his dance career for a while. Never simple answers when it comes to safety vs over-reach etc...

I DO NOT want to be insensitive or flippant re this - and actually wondered when hearing this yet-again vehicle mow-down... do our 3 Town Squares have bollards that can slow/stop vehicles? Just checked TV site -live vids of the Squares...NOPE. Never really noticed. Note to TV Security mgt....

I heard on radio news that about 100 people have been killed and many hundreds injured by vehicular attacks as this one in Toronto in the past 5 years or so. (would think it would be higher, but) How many by drunk/sleepy/inattentive(texting) in the USA alone in that period??? MANY times that - but as in anything - like terror, plane or train, fires, you name it - get the media's -and OUR attention.

I tried not to feed the crazies in a different post and thought people here could read between the lines without spelling it out - maybe some did but apparently many did not - make the town squares golf cart only accessible for safety's sake !

That is a good idea. You could keep the Squares safe with a few well placed heavy vehicles and they need not be the dump trucks, garbage trucks, etc. you see in NYC and Boston . Not safe from every possible scenario though. This is the Villages and not DC, Boston, Minneapolis nor NYC. We do not have to think of every possible means available to someone who might want to do violence on innocent people.

People who want to kill will find a way to kill. They always have and they always will. Without an unlimited budget for security you're fighting a losing battle. Do you really want to turn The Villages into a hardened security zone?

Put up all the barriers you want. Might stop the cars but what about the guy that just walks up with a pressure cooker bomb in his backpack? For every security measure you put into place someone will just find an alternate method to counter it.

Be cognizant of your surroundings. If you're really concerned stay away from places that would make good targets. The statistical chance of being killed in a terrorist or any other attack are miniscule.

Don't live in fear.

I very much agree. According to valid research, most Americans do worry about Islamic terrorists, but I doubt if many change their lives because of the worry. Or allow it to dampen their overall positive attitude. I feel confident that both our Federal and local governments are aware of any dangers if they exist. I think tightening our borders is a good thing.

They could rent some u-hauls and put advertising on them for instance to block entry for anything but golf carts at times when there is a large crowd on one or all of the Squares. That way the Villages continues to make $$$ from the advertisements on the u-haul vans and also has some blockage.
