Might be a promotional rate. Reality will set in soon.

YouTubeTV's ad revenue increased by almost 2Billion this year, from 5.7B to 7.5B. Their operating costs are only around $200 million. "Just the way it is" is correct. But the thing that's just the way it is, isn't the thing you think it is.
So what do you think is their real driver for increasing subscription rates?

Let’s put this into perspective. It’s going to cost about the same for a one month subscription to watch and record unlimited TV at both of our homes as it will after taxes for a Villages resident to play one 18 hole round of golf at Palmer starting January 1st. Looking at it that way, the monthly subscription seems rather reasonable!

We pay $85 per month for DirectTv. Three tvs, dvr, all the regular broadcast channels plus hundreds more, search function allows us to watch many past tv show episodes or movies etc free on demand, can record episodes or an entire series of a show, we get all the news channels, many sports channels, music channels, and a lot more than we can watch; can watch many recent movies for a fee (similar to Prime). Customer service is a ph call away although we almost never need to call. We've had it for years and get many recurring loyalty etc discounts; it works fine for us. It is auto charged and paid through our CenturyLink Internet service, high speed, which is $45 per month; so $128 for the two services.

Is that through a satellite dish or streaming?

Partly politics. Partly because they can.

I was originally ready to cancel but then decided it's ten bucks a month...it won't change my life.

No local news or sports channels. It's all the same stuff (other than the History channel) that comes free with a Roku or smartTV.

I still have dish. It's about $90 a month. Are the other options better?

There is no contract with streaming services so you can change companies at will.

Since you pay a similar price, whether other options are better is personal preference.

What would make another option better? Maybe a channel you cannot find, an old show that is not available with Dish's On-Demand, a movie that's only available on Prime or Peacock, hockey games from your favorite hockey team across the country, or four NFL games at a time. If you want those but cannot get them with Dish then that might make the other service better.

If I am traveling I can watch my channels wherever I can get a sufficient internet connection. I know DirectTV had a streaming app and I suspect Dish does too.

For me, quality of the signal varies from service to service. If I remember correctly, the video quality of most channels on Dish was very good though occasionally there might be an issue.

If you were paying two or three times as much for the same programming, like some are reporting for cable TV, then streaming would be better. If you are paying nearly the same amount and are happy with the channels you have then maybe there is nothing better.
