I was elated when Elliot was originally elected and had high hopes for him, but the past year I've not been impressed with his demeanor or methods of getting things done. I think you need to be conciliatory to an extent to succeed in politics, and he didn't seem to have that word in his vocabulary. I'm glad to hear McCelheny that he personally helped out your family. ( BTW, I've heard personal stories like that about Hillary. ) In any event, upon hearing of Elliot's romps with the prostitue, I felt cheated - like I was sold a bill of goods. I personally don't care about how politicians conduct their sex lives, but when he campaigned on a platform of honesty and integrity, and he acted just the opposite, it was obviously a shock. For the good of the party, I'm glad he stepped down immediately and took his medicine. I feel bad for his daughters, who are at a difficult and impressionable age, as well as for his wife.

Sexual antics of politicians do seem rather boring. The problem with Spitzer's actions though was that he went to illegal prostitutes. I would not find his actions that reprehensible if he went to legal prostitutes or had various affairs with interns or whatever. The problem I had with William Jefferson Clinton too was not that he had affairs but that he lied about the content of them. Did feel sorry for Chelsea and Hillary Clinton in the whole William Jefferson Clinton- Monica L. mess.

I had tried to get the Clinton White House involved with my effort to help survivors of crimes as I had the 2nd Bush White House as well.

Got back a very vague March 17, 1993 letter from Carol H. Rasco, Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, saying thank you for my thoughts on the issue of health care reform and that those on the Task Force like to hear from individuals like me who have valuable information to contribute and that she had shared my letter with the staff of the Task Force.

Sort of looks like just one more of the hundreds of form letters I received during my efforts to assist survivors of crimes to get access to practical information.

Tal, I personally did feel sorry for Chelsea and Hillary during that whole Monica thing. But I didn't have as much a problem with that because, even though Bill Clinton lied (and I will concede to that) he didn't walk around wearing a white hat, preaching to other people about their morals. I believe that Spitzer and Craig were a couple of the strongest that came out against Clinton, and what's that all about? Craig was sneaking out on his days off cruising the toilet stalls just tap dancing away! I just cannot tolerate hypocrisy. That's my main issue with Spitzer, Craig, and on and on... By the way, Bush has lied to the American public everyday for the last 7 years. He just doesn't have the b@lls to say, "I'm sorry, I have deceived the American public."

Unfortunately the sexual antics of politicians is only a microcosm of the general population....rich or poor....any race....any color.....male or female....

And more unfortunate is the 24/7 media glamorizing it by giving it the coverage that it does.

Chelsea -

It isn't what he did. It is the hypocricy I despise. I never expected more from Clinton right from the beginning - remember, he didn't inhale!! - and I think he knew everyone knew he was lying, and it was kind of a joke. He never crusaded against sex or drugs. Spitzer on the other hand was a different story.

"Idealism is the noble toga that political gentlemen drape over their will to power."

Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) British author.

That's amusing, SteveFromNY, about the "didn't inhale" bit from William Jefferson Clinton. I remember a 1983 or 1984 Red Rocks, CO concert of Bette Midler's where the marijuana smoke was so thick the only way to not get stoned was to stop breathing.
