Hi Bare-
After watching and listening to my friends share their experiences with botox and fillers, I decided to give it a try. I am pleased with the results however, none of my friends seemed to notice. I was hoping someone would say "you look great" or "have you lost weight?" The botox only lasted for 3 months and is about a $1000 a visit. The fillers cost about the same however, they do last longer. To maintain the botox I would need to go at least twice a year. That would mean about 3k a year to maintain the fillers and botox. For me, that is quite expensive. I'm wondering if in the long run a facelift would be less expensive. However, I am always afraid I will end up looking like a martian.
Would love to hear about others experiences.

Bravely done Lisa, thanks for sharing. :highfive:
Did you find the botox and fillers to be painful? I've heard that the thick kind of filler can be a bit painful, but I have friend who gets botox and she doesn't even feel the needle at all. I'm not sure if I'd pay $3K a year to avoid looking like a granny. I guess I might if it came with a "guarantee". I just struggle with the whole idea of vanity when there are people who don't even have clean drinking water. Still, injections aren't any more sinful than buying unnecessary shoes!

A good friend of mine has fillers redone every year or so (I think that's what she said)...she looks great! I asked the doctor about getting it before I went on my last cruise, they said to wait because there can be some bruising. Heck, if I could, I'd have everything nipped, tucked, sucked out, tied up and spray painted. (ok, maybe not the paint part!:) )

Here is a PM I received .... in confidence. It is from someone who has had a lot of experience in working with injectables. She provided some very good information .. this is just one paragraph from her note:
"I don't mind fillers so much because most like
Juvederm are made from Hylaruonic Acid which
the body makes on its own. They usually
last from 9-12 months depending on your own
body chemistry. Always get someone who
has been trained to inject as it is kind of like
the wild, wild west. Anyone
can inject and that is where you will run into
problems."

:clap2: Trish, thanks for the honesty! I'm still laughing about the nipped, tucked, sucked out and spray painted!
Now that I'm asking friends questions, I'm finding all kinds of people who will privately admit "off the record" to having had injections, it's amazing. I had no idea. The women I know who have had injections have been pleased. One friend swears by Arnica (homepathic) to eliminate bruising. She says you also have to avoid Vit E, Aspirin, Alcohol, anything that thins your blood. (For 48 hours prior to injections).

I'd love to hear some first-hand information. So .... Does anyone know anything about this subject? If you don't want to post on it here, perhaps you could PM me? Great, thanks.
Hi Girlfriends!
I am a newbie and hope to be moving into St. James by November. Two months ago, I had a lower face and neck lift. I have also had a filler with botox injected between my brow area above my nose to fill a deep frown line.
The work was done here in the Baltimore area so I can't recommend a Plastic Surgeon in TV. My goal was to look refreshed and well rested. When my PCP saw me yesterday, she said I look like the same me only a little younger. That was exactly what I had hoped for.
They were running a special for the injectables - one vial of the injectable, one vial of botox and a free package of Latisse cost me $800. The filler should last for a while but the botox will need to be injected again in about three months.
Latisse if you are not familiar with it is applied nightly to the eyelash area. It helps you grow longer and darker eyelashes in 16 weeks. I have only been using it for about four weeks and I can tell a difference.
I am willing to answer any questions anyone has.

question...the commercial mentions brown pigmentation in the eye....that made me afraid to try it since I have blue eyes and I'm not sure how this possible side effect would affect my eyes. Did your Dr. address this?

I know 3 women who had full face lifts. On two of them, I really didn't notice a whole lot of difference. They were somewhere in their 50s. Honestly, I could only tell a small difference, and one said if she had had any idea of the amount of pain involved, she never would have done it.
The 3rd one just looked totally different. She was also in her 50s. She was not a close friend that I saw every day, but I did see her across the table at cards or at social things occasionally, probably once a month or so. Then I moved to a different city and didn't see her for a year or so, during which she had her face lift. I did not recognize her the next time I saw her - she looked that different! She was a person who had very delicate, redhead-type skin that was more than usually wrinkled for her age (early 50s). She fixed that, but it took everyone a while to get used to her new appearance. I will see her next week for 2 solid days, and she's not shy talking about it, so I'll report back if I get any new info.
Then of course, there was the write (Olivia something)? I think the one who wrote First Wives' Club. She died, remember? Surgery always has risks. I guess if you can afford botox and/or fillers, it's safer, but there are still sensational stories about failed procedures.

Bare- Thank you for the compliment! I know women don't really like to share about the botox and juvaderm. However, I believe we can all learn from each other. No, the botox and fillers don't hurt. You are a little bruised (makeup will cover it). The problem is the botox wears off in 3 months and the cost of keeping up the botox gets expensive.

Good question! I wondered that myself, since I have green eyes. It is a stated side effect and like all pharmaceutical products must be declared even if it is a very small percentage. So far no notice of color change, but if I do see any . . . I will discontinue use.

My dermatologist offered it, and used it herself. She had lots of curly lashes and used no mascara. (she was a very attractive, young black woman)
I gave it a go. My results were:
Individual lashes grew long, but not with any symmetry. Some sprouted above my lash line, some got much longer than others and looked odd. (They recommend use on top lashes only. I can see why.) Applying mascara (which I still felt I needed) became a daily adventure. It wasn't easy making them look 'not weird'.
The brushes that come with the liquid are awful... makes it very hard to be precise. (You are instructed to use a fresh brush each time) For the cost of the liquid( mine was $125 a pop @ Costco pharmacy) I would have gladly paid an extra $10 to have decent brushes.
My lash line skin began to stain to a darker color where the liquid touched it. It was not a precise line, as you re-apply the liquid daily. Soon it looked like I hadn't gotten old makeup off completely. (That did dissipate a few months after I discontinued use.)
My eyes are brown, but I began to see them get darker beneath the lash line. I am told that does not go away. That's when I stopped. I used the product for three courses.... however many weeks that covers.
i haven't mentioned itchiness, but had that too, low level, but continual. Looking back on it now, it was NOT worth the expense, side effects or diligence of application. I was kind of relieved when my lashes started to LOOK like my own lashes again. Looking back on it now..... I think I was goofier than batsh*t to do such a thing. I was newly in love at the time.
If I had that money to spend over again on a luxury, I'd spend it on massage, pamper myself THAT way, and live happily ever after.

I agree with uptown girl. Latisse made my eyes itch and I started to get brown lines around my eyes. I have brown eyes and I started to look like a racoon. Stopped using it and the discoloration went away as well as the itching. Wish someone would come out with something else.

Here is more information I received from one of the girls in a PM ....
"There is a permanent injectable called artefill - used primarily for the lines between the nose and louth, and the sides of the mouth. It works great, based on my experience. There is an excellent doctor in the Jacksonville area who is very experienced and skilled with it. Another thing to consider is eyelid surgery if you have droopy upper lids or baggy lower lids"
I have two comments:
I'm not sure if Artefill is the same filler known as Artecoll, which was a permanent filler used about seven years ago. I thought it was off the market, a lot of people had problems with granulomas, and since the filler was permanent, it caused quite a mess. Perhaps Artefill is a new and better version of Artecoll. If anyone wants any more information about the Jacksonville doctor, please PM me, and I'll find out the information for you.
Re droopy upper lids, my girlfriend had this done. It was paid for by her medical plan because it wasn't considered cosmetic surgery. She was really having vision problems because of the droopy lids.

Here is a little more info on Artefill, and how it works. They do skin tests before any treatment, to reduce the risk of any adverse reactions. It really helps to have a doctor who is experienced with it. I had it done 4 or 5 years ago, and am very happy with it.

Hi all! I recently had the eyelid surgery done. Upper paid by insurance and just decided to do the lower (bags) as an add on. I would do it again, but was not prepared for the fairly difficult time I had during recovery. Friends who had it previously had told me, so not sure why I wasn't prepared. Just thought I would bounce back as if I were 25 - don't bounce as high now! So for anyone thinking about it, it is worth it - can see much better, eyes not nearly as tired and heavy feeling by day's end and bags are essentially gone. Eunice

I'm just wondering if any of you gals are on Warfarin pills. This isn't something I like to talk about on the general forum. Somehow it seems more private on Girl Talk. I was thinking about the possibility of getting some botox shots, but I think being on a blood thinner makes that impossible. Which is probably for the best!
I have to be on Warfarin for the next five months, but not for life. I had knee surgery on both knees which went OK. But as a result, I developed blood clots in my lungs and spent 8 days in hospital. Now I have to take warfarin. And have blood tests often (now twice a week).
I hate taking drugs, and especially rat poison, but I guess it's a necessary evil. I'm just wondering if any of you have experience with this drug.

I was on Warfarin and often the generic since I developed blood clots in my lung and leg after my ovarian cancer surgery. Just recently my oncologist suggest that I stop taking the drug. While you're on this blood thinner, one must NEVER undergo any procedure that may cause bleeding.
One can stop taking Warfarin for three days and then have the surgery. Since you're only taking it for a short period of time, my opinion would be to wait on the Botox until you're off the Warfarin.
You could question your blood draw person who does your INR testing 2x/wk.
Good luck....barb1191
ps: I can't imagine that you want to do Botox, you're adorable as is!!!

Hi Barb .... Thanks for the info! How long did you take warfarin? I can't help feeling there is something unhealthy about ingesting rat poison. But I guess it saves lives! Did you have any side effects? I have less energy than before my knee surgeries, but perhaps that's a normal reaction, while I'm still recovering. My blood clots started in my legs and moved to my lungs. Did you have your INR levels checked twice a week through blood tests. When you had blood clots in your lungs, were they painful?
I've been told I'll be on Warfarin for six months. I've decided that taking blood thinners is way more important for me right now than having any vanity procedures. Even tho I see my grandmother when I look in the mirror!

I took it for about five years....no side effects. Wasn't pleased to learn the composition of the med, but when blood clots are there, what's the alternative? If the rat poison keeps you alive, then there's no choice, yes?
My CA125 this test was too high so I must go back on chemo. Again, chemo not only kills cancer, but it can also be destructive to other parts of your body. Scary, but there isn't really many choices. I stopped chemo five yrs ago (my choice). Was never in remission, yet the cancer growth slowed down for me to be able to refuse the chemo. Now that the count in so high, it's back to chemo again.
I never suffered any pain from chemo or blood clots but was wiped out of energy and strength which never returned as I'm still very weak.
My INR tests were twice a month after having been taking it for so long.
Maybe you should get a new mirror <grin> because from what I see, you're very attractive. Forget about the Botox...it is so disfiguring and looks so fake. You have excellent genes and don't spoil your good looks with that junk. IMO.....b

Thanks for asking about my knees PT. As a result of my bi-lateral knee operations, I got pulmonary embolisms in both lungs, and that is what has been creating the travel delay. The Travel Medical Insurance Companies aren't too keen to offer insurance to someone who just got out of the hospital.

Oh dear,
I googled pulmonary embolisms and see that it is blood clots. I hope they have it under control. I hope you are feeling well and you stay well and healthy. I hope. I hope.
Barefoot, I can empathize with you. 2 years ago I had a knee replacement. 8 days later I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital due to bi-lateral pulmonary emboli...13 in the left and 11 in the right. Recuperation is slow. I finally had a Celect vena cava filter put in to collect any residual clots. Been fine since then...just took a few months. Hang in there.

Mac9, thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I also have bi-lateral pulmonary emboli, and stupidly, I had chest pains for eight days before I went to Emergency. I ignored the pain until it was non-stop and excruciating. They told me at the hospital I was lucky to be alive.
Ladies, listen to your bodies. If you're having chest pains, get to a hospital!
In my case, the doctors in ER considered filters, but opted instead for blood thinners (warfarin, which is rat poison). I was in hospital for eight days trying to get my dosage at the correct level. But now I'm stable. I sure don't like taking warfarin every day, but it's a necessary evil. In four months I'll be able to stop taking it, yay.
You're right that recuperation is slow. As we get older, I guess we can expect our bodies to start breaking down. Our best defence is a positive attitude. I try to focus on the fact that I'm lucky to be alive. And I know that with the Florida sunshine, my recuperation will be much faster, so I'm hoping to get to TV before the end of January!

I am very much looking forward to meeting you at the a dog park, and having our dogs romp! Soon I hope!

Larry, thanks so much for your supportive note and kind thoughts. I believe that these little setbacks are meant to make us stronger and more appreciative of all the joys and pleasures we have in TV. I'm healing fast and we should be on our way soon to TV.
Perhaps we'll all meet at The TOTV Crispers Lunch in Jan or Feb.

Most men have no guilt because they never do anything wrong. ;). Women have trouble sleeping because they worry and feel responsible and want to be able to control things. Women make "to do" lists and men sleep. :spoken:

I made a post (somewhere?) a while back about a dream therapy group I was part of, that became a really cool adventure.
One of the things we had fun with was finding a picture of a place we would like to visit, like Bali, Peru, a palace, an English garden, or whatever appeals to you.
We placed that picture, post card, whatever, next to our nightstand and gazed upon it before falling asleep. We played the 'what if?' game for a few minutes, and really tried to FEEL the joy we would experience visiting there.
Then, we decided that in our dreams, we would 'go on vacation' there.... and settle into sleep with that expectation.
In addition, we posted a small sign on the nightstand (mine was on my alarm clock) that said, "I remember my dreams easily". Didn't consciously look at that, but it entered my peripheral vision whenever I was near it.
It may take a few nights, but I'm here to say it works fabulously, and gets better with time.
If you awaken during the night and have trouble getting back to sleep because of thoughts racing through your mind, there are other things we did that I can give tips on. Just let me know and I'll share them with you.:)

Was the Dream Group here in TV? I love all this kind of stuff ... Visualization, affirmations, rituals, ceremonies, self hypnosis, meditation, deciding to dream that I'm flying and doing it!
But still .. Sigh .. Here I am awake at 5:21! Time to listen to a meditation tape!

I get up at this time. I am not tired. I enjoy getting up early. Waking at night has become routine to me and just part of life. Sometimes I get sleepy in the early afternoon and I take a nap. Try not to think of it as a problem. Do what you do in the day. Laundry, get earphones and watch TV. Sweetie has learned to sleep through anything.
I avoid watching news shows that upset me, ditto movies too. I just take things so much more seriously now that I am older and worry about them. You have to protect yourself from worry. It is useless.
I wish you rest, Sweet Bare.

Dear, dear Bare (and everybody else, too),
This may have nothing to do with your sleep problem... On the other hand, it may have everything to do with it. For quite a few years I had a terrible problem sleeping. Nothing helped. Nothing.
One day I needed to buy more makeup foundation, and I actually had my glasses with me and read the label. I discovered that the 'age-defying' ingredient in the makeup was caffeine! I was in the habit of using my 'good' makeup before going out to dinner (and we ate out a lot!), so reading the label was an AHA moment for me. I was applying the makeup early in the evening, and was still wide awake at dawn! I thought it would be worth trying another caffeine-free foundation, just to see if it made a difference. Voila! I still have trouble sleeping on occasion, but it's nothing like it was before I stopped defying age & wrinkles & brown spots...
So ladies, you might want to read the ingredients in your foundation. Caffeine could be the culprit!

To answer Bare's question, the dream group I spoke of was not here in TV, but many years ago in Chicago. We helped participate so that a group of Psychologists could learn how to conduct the therapy. My friend was their teacher and a fellow artist.
We did it as an experiment to tap into our artistic creativity. What was to be a six week class for them turned into a year long wonderful journey for us.
I, too am open to exploring some of the more esoteric pathways.

I too find myself roaming the halls at all hours of the night and wee morning. It used to frustrate me, but just go with the flow. I no longer have to get kids ready for school, pack their lunches, or make their dinner and help with homework. When I can't sleep at night, I get up and have a snack, read or check out TOTV or Facebook. After work if I am exhausted from lack of sleep, I can just come home and nap. The hubby, Freedomrider, is becoming more and more able to feed himself, so I don't have him to take care of either. It is all rather freeing really!
But there are some nights when I really just want to sleep and try everything I can think of,,,hot cocoa, sleepytime tea, milk and crackers. I too am open to suggestion

Here's something else you can explore:
Buy a spiral bound notebook (lined or unlined)
Buy a marker you like the feel/color of.
Buy a small flashlight.
Open the notebook so that a page is ready for writing. (fold the cover back)
Tuck it under your bed, along with the other stuff. Make it easy to reach.
If (when) you awaken during the night, pause for a moment in your position and DON'T move. Recognize what has just flown into your mind, or peruse the dream you just awakened from.
Gently reach for your notebook without moving too much and jot down whatever is foremost on your mind. You may only write a word or two.... like: red balloon, for example. Or you may write much more. You may draw a symbol. Do what you are compelled to do, but DON"T READ what you write.
When you have written and feel completed, let the notebook, etc. slip onto the floor, close your eyes and settle in to the same sleep position again. DON'T jostle around.
The next day, REFRAIN from reading your post and turn the page. (you can date the pages if you like)
Place your tools in their under-bed position for the next time you awaken.
Give yourself a week or two before re-reading all your posts. You may find a central theme running through and may be amused or surprised.
The theory is, your subconscious uses this sleep opportunity to sort through things that are pushed aside during the busy day. Sometimes it will be crystal clear and sometimes you will use personal dream symbols to represent things. (another adventure to explore)
What the bonus is..... is that by 'journaling' you are telling your subconscious that you recognize the thought and have recorded the message, so your mind can safely 'delete' it. Your mind will stop repeating and you will go into the sound sleep mode..... OR move on to the next message to yourself... and you can repeat the journal exercise. See?
Sometimes I can't be descriptive of THINGS as I am writing, but I can write down FEELINGS.
(physical or emotional)
Like:
I'm hot.
Feet are cold.
Feel sadness, fear, love, etc.
That is adequate too, to release the thought and allow sleep to return.
I find it a valuable and interesting tool, and neat pathway to better sleep.

Judy, you would never be ugly! I've read all the labels on skin products but I can't find caffeine anywhere. I think the culprit is the blood thinner I'm taking for blood clots in my lungs. I think it is making me sleepless at night which makes me tired every day. I think I'll be done with it at the end of April. I'll be able to have a glass of wine after seven months! Happy Days are here

I do believe in the power of dreams and that we can "pre program" them. I especially enjoy dreams when I'm flying in the air by myself.
I also believe that while we're asleep our spirit guides communicate with us. Last week I had a dream that the 19 year old cat we recently had euthanized was now a kitten. She was running and jumping and chasing butterflies. I believe the dream was sent to comfort me. I woke up smiling.

Do you weigh yourself daily? Weekly? Monthly? Never? Do you go by the feel of your clothes? When do you know its time to diet or cut back or do you live on a perpetual diet with moments of splurge? How do you control it all or do you just feel like you 've earned the right to eat what you want by now? How about exercise? Do you plan it or suffer through a formal plan or just skip it? What's your version?

I have a scale that does the weight, Fat, water and Muscle percentages and bone, so I weigh myself every day before showering. I used to not do it regularly and added pounds without really knowing it, until I needed larger clothes. When I food combine I can drop down to my regular weight, but have never been able to lose and keep off the extra 5 pounds that I would like to. Now that I'm on an Lugol's iodine and salt protocol, my thyroid is getting back to balance so perhaps I can shed the extra bit, but it is not a major concern. I figure as long as I feel healthy and can maintain a stable weight, I'm ahead of the game.
One thing that I noticed with the scale is that when I don't do Tai Chi or dancing or some form of weight bearing activity regularly, the weight may go down, but the fat goes up and the muscle goes down, because the fat weighs less than the muscle. So I have learned that it isn't about the total weight as much as it is about keeping the fat% lower. And that is a challenge, especially when we are in TV and eating out more. Wish we could spot lose as most of the extra fat is around the middle.

I weigh myself about 4 times a week but I can just tell about how much I weigh just by how I feel and I'm usually right within 2/10 of a pound. If I feel heavier on a given day I adjust my diet and eat smaller, lighter meals and the next day I'm back on track. I walk, a lot, and sometimes do cardio taped on DVD. I plan on swimming a lot when I move here. I do very little weigh training. It all seems to work for me. The belly seems to be the hardest to keep under control.

I weigh daily on a scale that shows weight, fat percent and water percent. Wish I had one that showed muscle as I'm trying to build up muscle just a bit to boost my metabolism.
I was too thin most of my adult life until I was 50. Then my metabolism died and I found myself eating less and less and weighing more and more. I got up to 134. This past fall, I decided to give it back-- the weight that is. I had a goal to weigh 114 by my 60th birthday, then to lose more and maintain a weight below 110. (I'm under 5'2" tall and small boned.)
On my 60th birthday last month, I weighed 113.6! Amazing the power of a goal! Yesterday morning I cracked the 110 mark weighing in at 109.8 Did it by exersizing 50-minutes daily, portion control, eating mostly whole foods, some protein with every meal and drinking green tea.
To avoid boredom with exercize, I vary among weight classes, zoomba, yoga, pilates and walking. Several years ago, I tried exercizing 3 days a week and found myself making excuses not to go. Something amazing happened when I decided on a daily program. It was hard at first, but after three weeks without missing, I couldn't stand to miss a day! I find I greatly look forward to it. I guess you build up an addiction to it. Best addiction ever! Who knew.

You are an inspiration. Wish I had your determination. I am 5'1" and medium boned and today I was at 124 with the fat going down and the muscle up so that for me was a bonus. I was under 90 until I was married and then gradually moved up. I also had a very high metabolism, probably hyperthyroid. Think it reversed after my kids were born. Charts say I should be around 115 so aiming for 120 makes sense to me given I will be 70 in July. I like to make allowances for age. People always comment on how small I am, but really I just hide it well. I'm adjusting our diet at the moment and minimizing/eliminating grains and sugars may help with the weight. Looking forward to getting down to TV and back to clogging.

I'd love to say that I'm one of those people who never think about weight, eat whatever they want, and think that personality is more important than how much you weigh. Someone who feels that it's OK to eat two desserts for breakfast. That is the person I'd like to be.
The person I am is quite different. Weigh myself weekly or daily? Try hourly. I'm kidding, but most everyone I know obsesses about weight, and wishes they weighed less. I have three friends who have gone the "lap band" route. Of course we all know we have to eat less and exercise more, no matter how many books claim they have the "new" information about weight loss.
My doctor says that middle age equals a muffin top, because of women's hormonal changes. Our shapes definitely do change over the years, age and gravity takes a toll. I try to be happy with the body God gave me, and give thanks that I'm alive and healthy and able to enjoy my golden years. But there are definitely times I look in the mirror and sigh for my old bikini days.

Ladies, I would take my hat off to you and how you are working so hard at keeping your weight in check but it's freezing here so I'm keeping it on and THINKING it off <wink>. I weight myself daily and play with the same 2 lbs all the time. It's so hard to get any exercise in the cold of winter. When the weather is nice I love to walk but brrr, I hate to go out in the cold. On Thursday I saw I was up that retched 2 lbs after a VERY stressful week at work where I know I snacked more than I should have so I forced myself to walk even though there was snow on the ground and the winds were whipping around me. The weight is off again but it's a constant merry go round of indulge and punishment. You think I could learn. Most of the time I try to keep my diet healthy. I LOVE the recipes from the Hungry Girl and Gina's Skinny Recipes so that helps. If I ate out all the time it would be harder. Thanks for sharing. So good to have other women to share with. I truly admire how you lost the weight PTurner.

I so hear you Barefoot. My dear friend has MS and I think about her and how her body has betrayed her; how hard it is for her to do just normal things in life and I feel bad obsessing about my arms or whatever. I wish I could let it just be but I've never been one of those people who didn't have to think about it. Any weight I don't put on is strictly by obsession only. I so admire anyone who is comfortable with their bodies at ANY weight and wish I could feel like that. You never hear a woman say what a man says casually with a smile on her face, "Yup, got an extra 25 right here" (patting her gut).

Was it the mother who designed the towel wraps? Thought that was a great idea and could really take off, especially at the theme parks. I don't watch alot of TV but I do try to catch those two. Wednesday and Sunday seem to work well for me!

I just wanted to share this on Girl Talk:
The room was full of pregnant women with their husbands.
The instructor said, "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier. Just pace yourself, make plenty of stops and try to stay on a soft surface like grass or a path."
"Gentlemen, remember -- you're in this together, it wouldn't hurt you to go
walking with her. In fact, that shared experience would be good for you both."
The room suddenly became very quiet as the men absorbed this information. After a few moments a man, name unknown, at the back of the room, slowly raised his hand.
"Yes?" said the instructor.
"I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"
Brings a tear to your eye doesn't it?
This kind of sensitivity just can't be taught.

Barefoot, how long do the spray on tans last?
The spray-on tans last 5 to 10 days, depending on how many showers you take and how hard you scrub. It's nice to have that all-over glow before special event or a weekend in the Bahamas.
Gerryanne, I'm sure that spraying an artificial tanner all over your body isn't the healthiest thing in the world to do. But either is painting your nails, or coloring your hair, or eating at MacDonalds. And I think that it would be much healthier option than lying out in the sun and frying.
Anyone know a tanning salon that does spray-on tans?

So true, that's why I was asking. Too much skin cancer in my family to fry in the sun. But, I guess if it doesn't last terribly long; I would use it only for a special occasion. Thanks for the info.

Gerryann ... It's a bit expensive to use spray-on tans on a regular basis, at least the rates in Canada are pricey. I'm hoping it is less expensive in this area. I never lie in the sun, but I hate looking pasty white all the time, especially if I have to wear a bathing suit!
I'm not sure of the Florida rates. I'm still hoping someone will post the name of a Tanning Salon. Perhaps we're all past such vanities. Of course you can buy self-tan lotion in a bottle. But the spray booths do a nice even job.

I do have some self-tanner sprays, but they don't apply evenly. The spray has to be very liquid so it can be sprayed out of a bottle, and sometimes rivulets spoil the look. The thicker stuff that you apply with your hands goes on more evenly, but takes longer to dry.
I guess I'll have to start calling tanning salons in the phone book. I was hoping someone could make a recommendation. Perhaps they don't even have spray tanning booths in Florida!

Bare, I checked the Villages phone book and only 3 tanning salons are listed:
A Tan USA
10115 S US Highway 441, Belleview... 307-4900
The Body Factory Health & Fitness
10785 S. US Hwy 441, Belleview... 347-7041
Tiki Tanning & Massage
4150 N Hwy 19A, Mt. Dora.... 483-8266
I'd guess that they're all area code 352
There are no display ads, and no information about their services.
The Ocala/Marion phonebook has about 20 tanning salons listed, and the first one specifically mentions spray-on tans "46 seconds to fabulous!" so it might be worth making the trip to Ocala.
AND, I just now checked the skinny little Tri-County area phone book and found that there are 3 others close by:
Cheri's Fitness & Tanning, 10889 N US 301, Oxford 748-0377
Flamingo Bay Tanning Salon, (long address), Summerfield 347-7455
Michele's Tropical Tanning, 336 Shopping Center Drive, Wildwood 748-7400
Good luck!

PS: I've never lived anywhere with so many phonebooks!
PPS: I can ask my hairdresser the next time I go. He would know if there were others, wouldn't he?

On the other hand, I have a great dermatologist if you need one. She is steadily removing all my squamous cell critters from my days as a lifeguard.
We ALL used the baby oil & iodine mixture, didn't we? Did you also suck on a lemon wedge to brighten your teeth? And peroxide straight from the bottle for your hair? Sheesh. We're lucky to be alive! Maybe this should go in the "If I knew then what I know now" topic. :icon_wink:

However I think I'd have to drive to Orlando to find a booth in Central Florida. I'll bet a Mystic Tan would do very, very well in TV. Lots of women who want to "glow" without the skin damage.

I had a lot of (rust?) spots on any metal stuff when using Cascade in a dishwasher having a stainless steel interior. Cascade began to leave streaks on the walls of the washer as well. (which I removed with WD40)
After doing some online research, I found that Cascade's formula isn't the best for that environment. I changed to Finish brand and the results were improved.
Our dishwasher here does not have a stainless steel interior. I bought Cascade gel packs and have noticed one or two spots happening occasionally, on my older pieces. I use a little SOS on the spots and they're gone.
I'll switch back to Finish brand with my next round of shopping.
Hope that helps you!

I agree about Cascade and silverware in the dishwasher, especially if the silverware is a fairly recent purchase (within the last decade), and the dw interior is s/s. It used to be that stainless was made from steel manufactured in the US. It was high-quality steel. Now most stainless is made with poorer quality steel from other countries (Poland, Thailand, Vietnam are some.) It's cheaper and therefore the flatwell is cheaper to buy, but the result is spotting. I've thrown out a whole set of Oneida due to rust spots. Even if I could get the spots off, I would have to hand-wash the silverware to keep it from re-spotting.
Cascade definitely caused spotting and pitting in my s/s interior dw in MI. Here our interior is not stainless, and I've switched to Finish power ball tabs. I also bought stainless made in Italy from Sur la Table. So far no pitting or spotting. Hope that helps.

I have used Parker at Root466, but I prefer Pam Covely. 352-259-6700.
I also like Color Me (beside Bonefish Grill) 352-750-0057. They do sell a product designed to thicken thinning hair, and promote hair growth. They have some very good beauticians there. I've gone to several, and they all have been good, the last time I used Cynthia.
Victoria has her own shop in the Santa Fe Plaza, 352-753-2299. I think she used to work at Urban Hair, quite a while ago.

OK Girls. Here's a question for all of you. There's a current thread out there called "A Day at Citizens First." Please take a minute and read it.
The post was placed on the "Funny" Section but I'll be darned if I can see anything funny about it. It's a comparison between how women and men use an ATM machine. Apparently men are the only ones who can operate an ATM and us dumb women just can't manage those complicated things without doing damage while trying. That is the whole point of the joke.
When I posted that I found it offensive, I was accused of "Whining." What do you think? Can you operate an ATM? Do you find it funny to be ridiculed just because you're a woman? These guys are still living in 1948.
I would love to see a nice polite discussion take place about this stupid joke and I won't post about this again, but I felt it was worth bringing to your attention. We might be old, but we are living in a modern world and I for one won't put up with that ,er, stuff, any more. I already went through the marches and the bra burnings for women's rights. God, can you imagine us burning bras today! lol!!
Thanks for your kind attention.

I just saw it as an attempt at some old style humour. I don't take it personally and I hope that our husbands would not find that particularly funny. In fact from casual conversation I hear of more households where the wife is the manager of the funds and the banker. I think that more husbands forget their PIN so don't like using the ATM! It's much easier just asking for cash when they run out. It is like the blonde jokes that are still going around but are out-of-date.

Wen Hair products are only sold online. I think your first order is $29 for 16 oz shampoo (which lasts me 3-4 months and I have shoulder length hair), a condition and a styling cream. It's amazing and if you color your hair, it doesn't fade the color, doesn't dry your hair - it's just an amazing product. I usually don't buy online, but this is worth it.

do you get a mammogram and bone density test and pap smear every year?
YES!!! (age 58 and holding:)

YES!!! (age 58 and holding:)
Thanks for the reply. My doctor has always sent me for every test every year, and I've never questioned it. However I've been surveying my girlfriends and a lot of them have a mammogram every two years or not at all. Most in their early to late 60s don't have pap smears at all any more, and don't feel they are necessary. And most have never had a bone density exam. I'm just wondering if all the tests are really necessary.

I don't do medical, but if I were concerned about breast issues, I would have a thermography done. I do not go looking for things as our bodies are always on the look out and getting rid of "cancer" cells. But I believe we have to give the body the support it needs to do its job. I do support the immune system by keeping the antioxidants up and keeping the gut flora up. I also work to clear any emotional stuff that needs addressing.
I think bloodwork can give you an indication of your internal soup and I think that it is good to keep your PH around 7, which can be done easily if you eat your veggies, limit your meats and grains, eliminate sugar and drink your water 80% of the time.
That being said, each person has to decide what works for her. All tests are snapshots of a second in time and it is only over a longer period of time can we really get a picture of what is going on. Even then, we would really need to have a total internal picture to get the whole picture, as a problem in the mouth could be the source of a problem in the gut or in a joint. And if anything is found through testing, I can't be sure if it is coming or going!
German New Medicine has an interesting article on Breast Cancer on its website The German New Medicine (http://www.newmedicine.ca) as well as lots of other information that may be of interest to those who are interested in looking at other paradigms for health and healing. It was a life changing and life affirming experience for me when I studied it and is a very integral part of my paradigm for healing and self-management.

I worked in the medical field and I feel very strongly that all woman over 40 should have yearly mammogram and pap smear. Bone density every couple years and a colonoscopy every ten years beginning at age 50. Preventative medicine is the best way to fight that dreaded "C" word. Early detection saves lives!! That is why it is so wonderful to live in the USA where we can catch cancer at stage 1 and cure it...not wait till it's stage 4 and too late. If you've ever lost a friend to breast or cervical cancer you know what I mean.

I'm very careful about colonoscopies and endoscopies (I have both every five years) because of health problems that run in my family.
Do you feel that women over 40 should have yearly mammograms and pap smears for the rest of their life? Or do you feel at some age, either they're no longer necessary, or the frequency should be changed?

I second this, even though at age 64 I only have a pap smear every two years. But I definitely second the mammogram yearly and bone density every two years. My doc wants a colonoscopy every few years at my age (can't remember exactly how many years--maybe 7?)

...since I was a nurse at a large Ob/Gyn office and at that time they were recommending that women with low risk did not need a pap smear every year. An exam that included checking out the abdomen by feel for ovarian cancer yes...every year but not a pap....hmmmm forget at what age they recommended not doing the pap yearly. This was a recommendation from the American College of Gynecology and again it may have changed back again. Also it used to be that Medicare did not pay for yearly pap smears either.

SSmith, thanks for the information. I went online and googled the recommendations of the American College of Obs/Gyn. They said that a woman 65 to 70 can discontinue screenings, but only if they've had three consecutive normal Paps and nothing abnormal in ten years. Your post made me realize it isn't only about cancer of the cervix though. It's also about ovarian cancer. So I'm going to keep keep making yearly appointments with a Gyn for a while, better safe than sorry.

I know there is a doctor's office in Southern Trace Plaza on CR 466 that does fillers and botox. It is a nurse who does them and she is busy non-stop all week long. I had an "interview" with her a year ago, but haven't used her. However, based on her experience, I assume she is good at what she does.
I'm still flirting with the idea. Just like letting my hair go grey. I'm not ready to be grey. Many women can accept the aging process gracefully. I admire them. I thought I'd be one of them. Sigh. But I get tired of seeing my mother when I look in the mirror!

Has anyone tried "Sensa", the new diet system? It is a powder you sprinkle on food. Dr. Oz talked about it on his program this week (but then he recommends a new product every program!). Apparently it works for some people, but not for others. I've been trying it for the past few days.
I'm interested if anyone else has tried it?

Sensa works in an unique way - different from other diet supplements. I'd be most interested in hearing anyone else's experiences with Sensa. I think I like the product, but I'm not sure yet. Other diet supplements make me crazy because they usually have caffeine and stuff that revs up the metabolism, and they make me walk on the ceiling.
CF, I'm in TV now, but have been sick for a week. A lingering cold that gets better, and then comes back! I'll send you a PM when I'm feeling better. I agree, it is weird for the first few Christmases in Florida, when you see palm trees instead of pine trees. But it's a pleasant transition.

Has anyone tried Zerona to resculpture their body? I think it's a laser fat reduction method, I see it advertised in the newspaper. Sounds like liposuction but is non-invasive. I can't imagine how it would work. They sure advertise a lot of neat stuff in the Daily Sun. No doubt aimed at neophytes like me who are easily deceived. :sigh:

I really don't like Dr. Oz at all, and I usually don't watch his show. But occasionally I get bedazzled by one of his products. Sensa works on your sense of smell. Which makes it a little different from other products. But it's probably just another gimmick.
Once Dr. Oz recommends something, the products usually fly off the shelves at the Health Stores. Sadly, they often don't work at all. It's not that I want to lose a lot of weight, I just want it the pounds to go back where they used to be.

I bought Guava which is stimulant free pill and you take it twice a day to control appetite. I thought it worked pretty well and didn't make me at all jittery. I don't even drink iced tea because of the caffine so I would feel it if there was a stimulant of any kind (I don't eat chocolate either). I can't say if I'll lose weight or if it works over the long haul because its only been a day, but so far so good.

I have two friends that recently went grey. Both look great. I'd like to try it, but I can't figure out what to do during the transition period .. wear a wig?..... Quote from Barefoot
Truly... a wig is the best way and the least hassle. My (then long and dyed) hair was dark. (You may remember, I was a hair professional.)
My idea was to try different ways to blend in the demarcation line until my roots grew long enough that I could lop it all off and start my new grey look with a pixie cut.
Casual look was okay, I could wear a ponytail and a baseball cap pulled low on my brow, as the nape of my neck wasn't yet looking too bad.
Work or special occasions was a challenge. For the part, temples or hairline, there are temporary coloring pens, mascara- like brush wands, and shake on powder products that you can hairspray into place. (all available online) They will last until you wash your face or shower. Don't get caught in the rain, however, or caught under harsh lights.
Eventually I gave up that tedious routine and just got a buzz. Shorter than a pixie. Fortunately, everyone was supportive and I took my B Complex vitamins, exercised more and prayed for my metabolism to grow me some hair, pronto. It still took 6 months before I felt comfortable in my girlie skin again.
Did I mention that I also DON"T have the most beautifully shaped head in the world??? (That would have helped!!!!)
Had I to do it again, I'd GET the coolest, most fun wig I could find.... like the one Katherine Zeta-Jones wore in the musical "Chicago". Worth every penny.... and who knows, you might wear it again, after your grey, just for fun!

I am attaching a link that outlines the process and rational for food combining. It really is a healthy way to eat and you don't have to be counting calories or really limiting the quantity of healthy foods.
Food Combining: The Little-Understood Secret to Optimal Health & Weight Revealed / All Body Ecology Articles (http://bodyecology.com/articles/food_combining_optimal_health_and_weight.php#.ULrK LY7rGs8)
This has worked well for me over the years and although I don't follow it all the time, I do revert back to it when I want to keep the weight down. I also am watching the grains and eliminating sugars, but the food combining can still be done with these restrictions. Maybe that is why we have been staying down and level as we have been doing more food combining lately.

I don't do alot of smoothies because of the dairy, but you can add spiralina powder to a smoothie. There are "green" drinks that use spiralina and can be made into smoothies. I would think that carrot juice and celery juice could have spiralina added. You would have to adjust to taste in all cases. Don't know if that is helpful at all. I use a Vegezyme drink daily from Progressive Lab that has all the greens I need in case I don't get enough veggies into me on a daily basis which is usually the case. You can google it and find out all about it.
LW888
I make "green smoothies" in the AM. Frozen spinach, couple of frozen peach and mango slices, a few frozen strawberries - ice and some water. You can add dairy, honey too. When I buy bananas, if they get too ripe, I"ll cut them up and freeze them in halfs and add that to the smoothies too. I prefer to use fresh vegs and fruit when I can, but frozen is great too. Dr. Oz has a great recipe. All of these are filling.....and good too !!!

Do you add whey protein powder to smoothies?
I personally do not add protein to the green smoothies but many people do and they like it very much. I know several ladies who have used green smoothies and an exercise program and lost a considerable amount of weight. They make a large blender full in the morning (including the whey protein powder) and have a large glass for breakfast. A small glass of smoothie for mid-morning snack and then the remainder of the smoothie and a real nice salad with tuna or shrimp for lunch. Then they eat a normal, potion-controlled dinner. This and some decent exercise and they loose weight AND feel terrific. Some say their finger-nails are stronger, hair shinier and some people who have followed Dr. Oz's smoothies have said their arthritis complaints are much less. If they travel and go off the "diet" for a week - they say their arthritis flares.

AND... I love it when you order something, and Zappos sends you an email that says "WHOA NELLY!!! You've just qualified for a priority shipping upgrade!"
My favorite find this year was wag.com, which ships my dog's pet food for free (plus his salmon oil, treats, and a host of other things) and which is connected to soap.com for household cleaning items, beauty bar.com for all sorts of cosmetics, and a couple of other .coms (casa and books, I believe.) The pet food arrives within two days. There's 20% off your first order, 15% off your second order, and for each order thereafter, you get an amount toward your next order equal to 5% of the total of the former order, good for 2 months. (Was that confusing enough??)
I never have to lug 30 lbs of dog food out to my car and into my house again! Or detergent, fabric softener, yadda yadda. Saves on gas too, since I'm down by 466A and Petco is up north.
Currently on our lanai we have two 80-lb goldens asleep at our feet after their morning walk. (One's visiting us this week.) It's January, it's warm, and life is good!

I have been using orthaheel brand shoes and slippers for about 1.5 years. In fact, this past Christmas, I bought 3 pair of slippers: 1 for me, one for my sister and one for my sister-in-law. Does a favorite girlie thing have to just be shopping? This is what I'm into lately. I take blueberries and greek yogurt (I like a flavored kind although you could cut calories by using plain I guess) and two toothpicks and a piece of wax paper and a cookie sheet that fits in your freezer. Put your berry on a toothpick and dip the blueberries into the yogurt to get a decent coating so that there is a 'blop' of yogurt around them. Then use the other toothpick to push the covered berry onto the wax paper. Freeze for a few hours until solid and remove to a plastic zip bag. Make sure you leave room between them when you assemble. I also like to sprinkle with some Splenda before freezing because I like sweet things but you could skip that if you want. I love to pop a frozen berry into my mouth and crunch it. It's so cold and creamy and sweet. I know it's good for me and low in calories and I can never eat a whole container of yogurt at once. It's a great low cal snack. Try it and let me know what you think. It's my new obsession.

I dipped a few strawberries in Cappuccino Yogurt and froze them individually. How yummy. :icon_hungry: Thanks for the tip!

I'm not sure if Microcurrent at Newbodycontours is a new type of procedure, but if it is, I'd be awfully careful. I haven't heard of it. I'd love to hear from someone who has tried it. I guess I should look for it on Dr. Oz's website. He seems to have an opinion on all the controversial new trends.
By the way, I've found a fabulous btx guy in The Villages. I'm still looking for a place to get a tiny little tattoo.

Jennifer Anniston got a tattoo on the arch of her foot, her first one. I thought it was discreet. So I was thinking the arch of my foot. Then I heard that feet are really pain sensitive. It has to be somewhere that doesn't sag. :faint: Not much area that doesn't sag .. maybe on the shoulder?
If anyone knows of a really clean tattoo parlour, please let me know by post or PM. The fastest growing segment of people seeking tattoos is women over the age of 40!

I want a tiny ankle bracelet tattoo. I keep chickening out. Three friends of mine had tattoos done by a girl at the tattoo parlor in Baylee Plaza. They all said she was great and highly recommend her. It is a very clean place (I went up there with one friend). I can get her name if anyone is interested.

Has anyone ordered anything from TV ads, the kind where they say "but wait, if you order now, you'll get two"? I wonder if they're a rip off. They are advertising a crinkly hose that expands when used, and then will deflate to fit in a pail. And some things to anchor area rugs. I'd love to know if any of the "gadgets" work.

Many of those items eventually are sold in retail stores. If it interests me I wait till I can actually see it in a store. I'm pretty sure I've seen the crinkly hose that you're describing in Bed Bath & Beyond. I live in a different state but I would think the Florida BB&B stores would also have it.

Oh they work...briefly. My husband purchased one of the blue models from the "AS SEEN ON TV" booth @ Marion Market. He used it once and a metal piece inside the hose broke which blocked the water flow. He then got a green one. He used that one briefly as well, until it "blew out", soaking him. :cus: We will not get another!

I LOVE mine. Got the green hose at Walmart. I will say that it is not for he-men with gorilla grip tightening techniques (hose ends are plastic) but for those like me it is the easiest hose I ever worked with. It doesn't get tangled, empties and compresses in a flash when you're done and really does extend to 50 feet when water pressure is on. When empty, I can carry it in one hand. The hose nozzle I use is heavier than the hose itself.
I am in the process of trickle watering new plantings every day. This hose makes that SO easy! Best $19 I have spent in a long time.
Yep, LOVE it. :coolsmiley:

My girfriend bought a "bra genie" @ Bed Bath Beyond. She is big busted and it just didn't work for her...too much stretch. Let's just say things were hanging quite low. When she returned it to BBB, a gentleman was at the return counter. He asked if there was anything wrong with it. Her answer, "well not that I'm gonna tell you about!" OK, for $19 at Walmart, I'm willing to take a gamble on a green hose. If it is light and I don't have to drag it around, then I can be very gentle with it. I just have to make sure that Fireboy doesn't use it. Those retired firefighters are hell on hoses.

I have visited the same salon for 20 years. My hair stylist is the best and I have always gotten compliments on my hair. Total strangers have stopped to ask who does my hair. The salon often does makeovers on television and does hair and makeup for several television shows. My hair stylist says I can't move because nobody in Florida can do hair.
How do you find a really good hair stylist? Other than flying back every 5 weeks, I don't know of a solution to this problem.

You are so lucky to have had such good luck with the same salon for 20 years. I think your hair stylist is correct, you can't move to Florida. Or you can move for the great lifestyle and buy a cute wig. When I see someone with great hair, I always ask where they have it cut. If you look back in this thread, there have been a lot of different stylists suggested.
I've used many different stylists in Florida. Just when I think I've found a crackerjack colorist, and take a picture to show exactly what I want, I end up looking like Molly Carrot Top, and the search resumes. I've used Urban Hair, Root 66 (several different stylists), Color Me, Victoria Hair, and many others. I even tried The Beauty College once where they mistakenly died my hair jet black and then said they didn't know how to fix it. I haven't tried Cal's Barber Shops yet, some people have really good luck there. I'm sure it depends on the stylist.
It's kind of like picking a husband. You date a lot of different types, and finally you finally find the man who is perfect for you. Or perhaps he is perfect for a while and then things change. It's such a personal thing. I think we all have to just keep experimenting until we find perfection!

And I have a question too. Up north, urologists did operations to repair bladders, not ob-gyns. I've been told down here (Florida) that gynecologists do the surgery, not urologists.
I'm confused. Any ideas which way to go? :o
I'm real late finding this great site so you may have already had loads of information on the bladder lift. Unfortunately I know far too much about that subject, but what you need now in Florida, and maybe elsewhere, is a Uro-Gyno. I have one at Mayo in Jacksonville, but there are two women here now who are both Uro-Gynos. If you need this info let me know, I have it somewhere.

A girlfriend sent me this in an email, and I just wanted to share it with my TOTV friends.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GIRLFRIENDS
In an evening class at Stanford University the last lecture was on the mind-body connection - the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker (head of psychiatry at Stanford) said, among other things, that one of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman. Whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends. At first everyone laughed, but he was serious.
Women connect with each other differently and provide support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. Physically this quality girlfriend time" helps is to create more serotonin - a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of well-being. Women share feelings whereas men often form relationships around activities. We share from our souls with our sisters/mothers, and evidently that is very GOOD for our health.
He said that spending time with a friend is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym. There's a tendency to think that when we are "exercising" we are doing something good for our bodies, but when we are hanging out with friends, we are wasting our time and should be more productively engagednot true. In fact, he said that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking!
So every time you hang out to schmooze with a gal pal, just pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing something good for your health! We are indeed very, very lucky. Let's toast to our friendship with our girlfriends. Evidently it's very good for our health.

I remember when I first started learning Mahjong, we played every Tuesday afternoon. For the first year I always got a Mahjong headache every Tuesday because I had to concentrate so hard. Now I just relax and play a lousy game, and occasionally win by pure luck and lots of jokers. :sigh:
I'm not sure that Mahjong is quite as satisfying as a gabfest with wine! :wine: :D

You're probably better at games and cards than I am. I had a huge learning curve because I've never played any kind of cards or board games. But I found Mahjong strangely intriguing. There is something sexy about the tiles.
We used to spend all our time eating when we had our games at people's houses. We had to move the games to a Rec Center beside the pool.

I don't know how I'll dress when I learn to play mahjong, but I may need a supply of pain killers also. I have my 92 year old aunt's set and can't wait to learn how to play. I am really looking forward to it and with a hand-me down set from someone who used it for years, the pressure is on. Bring on the wine and snacks. I think I need to eat and drink away the pressure. Seriously, I can't wait to play. Hope no one is too, too competitive and impatient with me.

Try Neutrogenia Face 60+. Remember it takes 20 minutes before you are protected. Wear a wide-brimmed hat. Try to stay out of the "high-sun hours" 11-2. If you are in the sun: REAPPLY sunscreen every couple of hours.
If you want a tan...use self-tanner. The sun damages and ages skin terribly.

Is Nutrogrena 60 + for those over 60 or 60 is the rating of sunscreen protection?
Newbeginnings
07-11-2013, 07:15 AM
I use Clinque's sunscreen for face, Broad Spectrum SPF 50. Excellent product, I use it everyday.
Neurtogena 60+ is the SPF rating. The reason I suggested that brand is that it is not "heavy" feeling (meaning people will use it more if it feels good) and very few people complain that it bothers their sensitive skin. I use this everyday.
Personally, I use Anthelois when I golf, its half-life is a bit longer (meaning i can golf 18 holes before I have to re-apply). But I am very, very strident about keeping my face out of the sun. I wear a wide brimmed hat and I wear golf gloves on each hand to avoid sun damage on the tops of my hands. This sun screen is a bit pricier (you can order on line) and it does make your face look a little whitish (thats a good thing).

Thanks, I really avoid sunscreen on my face, even though I know it's totally necessary and stupid NOT to use it. I just hate that I touch my face and eventually my eyes and the sting and pain is so awful that it discourages me from using sunscreen (although you would think I would remember never to touch my eyes). I'm going to try both of those- the Neutrogena and the Clinique.

Some of the people that I consider friends, are people I've yet to meet! There are some women who attract me like a shining beacon, simply because I know that they share my love of animals.
Anyway, the other day I received a card mailed to me in Canada, and a Canadian $10 bill from CFrance, whom I've never met. She was in Michigan packing up her house and she found some Canadian money. And she was kind enough to take pity on me for all my online whining about my July knee replacement. She enclosed the money in a get-well card. What a nice surprise, and such a morale booster, right when I needed it. What a wonderful, considerate friend she is! I can hardly wait to meet her.

I wish we had a button to click to say we "Like" someone's post. I'd click "Like" for your post @Barefoot.

ditto....sweet way to say thanks, bf. humbling when someone does something for us that we can't figure out why they did it, except for love.

Thanks, Bare! It was a fun bit of serendipity in the midst of a big packing job. And I didn't have to think very long to know whether "to keep or toss" that item. Easiest decision I had to make! :$::p
