Hi all:
I have an HP G60-243DX Notebook PC with 4 gig. It's about 1 1/2 years old. Lately I've been having problems with it. I ran a Norton virus scan, Malwarebyes, System mechanic. It found nothing. We have Comcast for internet high speed. Our desktop computer is not having these problems so I don't believe it is Comcast. What happens is I go to type out an e-mail in AOL or I'll go into TOTV and try to click new posts and it just sits there. On AOL it will type a couple of letters and then stop. On TOTV I'll use the scroll bar and it will jerk and move very slowly. I have tried a new wireless mouse and it didn't act any differently. I have checked for processes running and have disabled all that happen during the day so I don't believe any updates are running, but that could be an option. There just aren't any showing up in the tray. I tried alt, control, delete and looked at the task manager and nothing will be there except AOL. I am running AOl from the AOL website and it works fine on our desktop at the same time. Any ideas? ![]() ![]() Last edited by jnieman; 10-05-2012 at 05:07 PM. Reason: computer fixed |

Your 5400RPM hard drive could just be getting old, and slowing down on its seek and reads. Hope this helps! I have some great software for transferring your data if I can help!

You could try to do a defrag on your hard drive as that might speed it up.

Forgot to mention that it automatically defrags every week. Thanks for the idea though as it was a good one.

could it be google chrome.exe? It's listed 7 times in the processes list. The reason I got google chrome is that I was having problems with internet explorer.

Run MSCONIG and start unselecting things (one by one) on the startup tab. Might help also till you find the culprit.

Do you have 7 google chrome windows/tabs open? Are those chrome.exe using up the CPU?

I have disabled Google Chrome, installed Firefox. Firefox does the same thing as does Internet Explorer. As an earlier poster said, I might be looking at replacing the hard drive. I am now checking into the costs and sizes of hard drives.

Seems everything you are trying is internet based....ie. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.
Have you tried any of your other programs that don't use the net? Do they also run slow? Purchasing a new hard rive might not fix your problem....maybe you have a problem with your network card or wireless antenna... I think you said it was a laptop, so worst case, take it over to Best Buy and let the Geek Squad take a look at it... Good Luck! |

What OS are you running on each system? There have been some win 7 machines that have TCP/IP issues

Here are some possible fixes. Even though the page is old, it is still relevant.
