E-mail mystery
I have a husband & wife friends who both have the same e-mail provider. His computer is at work, hers is at home. I can send & receive e-mails from the husband, BUT I can only [I]send[I] e-mails to the wife. Any e-mails she sends to me go to cyberspace--I never receive them. And yes, I've checked my spam & blocked lists & she's not on them. This is driving us both nuts! Any ideas?

If you send the wife an email and she REPLIES to your email, does it still go to cyberspace?

Check The E-Mail Account Settings
The e-mail account at home is probably set to receive but not send. Your ISP should have instructions online about what's required.

Yes. Her replies also go to cyberspace.

I don't think so, since our mutual friends get her messages, just not me.

Some questions, thoughts...
I assume the husband and wife have separate email accounts. I would ask if he can send you an email from home using his account?
Do you know how they send email? I ask as there is a big difference between logging into the providers web site and sending an email compared to using a client application such as Outlook/Outlook Express. If they are using a client application, I would have them verify that the SMTP host is set to the same on both. For all we know the husband uses an Exchange server for outgoing email at work. Knowing the email client can also help. It is possible that the wife can set an SMTP trace depending on the email client she is using. This would show you what server is dropping the ball. Nice rainy day puzzle |

This is probably a silly question but has anyone looked into the obvious? are you 100% sure that she is sending to the correct email address? Have her delete your email address from her address book then send her an email and have her right click your email to get the context menu and then click on "add sender to address book" to add you to her address book.

Her send is working if mutual friends are receiving the same message (assuming you are one of many on the 'To' list).
Since her send is working the problem is probably on the receive side (you). Just because you checked your spam and blocked list doesn't mean the problem isn't your provider. For example our e-mail provider has a quarantine list that we don't even see. This first level of security is intended to remove mail from known bad domains etc, they don't even send it to junk/spam. I've had people call me and ask 'did you get my e-mail?'. I ended up finding the e-mail on the quarantine list (I had to ask my provider to investigate) and then did a white-list on the exact e-mail address of the sender. |

Here is yet another suggestion.
I don't think you mentioned if you are receiving your emails through pop3 or browser based. Assuming that it's pop3 and you haven't checked your browser based access, try looking there to see if it is being sent to a spam folder on the browser based access. My wife had some problems and that's where she found the missing emails. If what I'm suggesting is what happened, you should be able to change the settings so that the message is not being directed to that particular spam folder (as opposed to your pop3 email program) and then you should receive it in your regular method of receiving emails. Also the suggestion to make sure that your friend has your email address correct is another kind of error I've known to have happened on a few occasions. Also check your own reply to entry on your email account settings. Although remote, that could also be a possibility. Good luck! PS... DOING THIS WON'T HELP>>>

But she said that an e-mail reply (which would obviously be the correct address) also went away.
