Default Where are the weeds police???

Driving on Odell Circle between Hemmingway to Duval, there are a couple of back yards which face Odell Circle that are loaded with weeds. One home in particular, has weeds at least a foot tall and the property is an eyesore.

I thought TV was supposed to be pristine and I'm a bit disappointed. Can TV intervene and make sure property visible to the street is maintained properly? Does one have to make a formal complaint before anything will be done about this?

TV does give notices to homeowners about weeds. Sometimes, the owners are snowbirds, out of town, etc. and don't get the notice. Then, TV will get Mike's to do the weeding and charge the homeowner an exorbitant rate.

The problem with the weeds right now is that the ground is so dry it is hard to weed. I'd say if the weeds haven't been taken care within three days of the next decent rain, I'd call Community Watch to take care of the problem. THAT is one of their jobs.

Nice to know CW will take care of the problem. Actually, I would hope that CW would notice the weeds and act upon it without needing phone calls from folks in the community.

Maybe the home owner is sick or unable to maintain the yard for whatever reason. Here is a thought if it bothers you so much get out of your golfcart and check on the person and see if you can help in some way.

I totally agree with you Buc...When I walk down a street and see an empty bottle or a piece of paper thrown on the ground I will pick it up and disgard it in the trash. It has always made me feel better then just walking by it and ignoring it but making sure to complain to someone about it...I understand weeds are a different scenario but by all means please ring that persons door bell to make sure they are OK...Thanks

Default Those aren't weeds

They are wild flowers. Chil I am sure someone, probably a snow bird, doesn't know the weeds have suddenly come up. It happens in the spring or for that matter any time during the growing season.
I had to leave our house last Oct. and had a yard service that didn't take care of weeds. I didn't know the yard workers had let the place go so bad until one of my neighbors e-mailed me and a few days later I got an e-mail from CW complete with a picture. This was in the back yard and we have a corner lot so CW does watch everything, I think.
I took care of the problem and hired a new yard guy. No problem now but I am back now so I can handle the weeding issues.

Default Contact Deed Compliance

Contact Deed Compliance rather than Community Watch. CW just passes on what it observes to Deed Compliance staff for follow-up with appropriate owner.

Odell Circle is a very heavily traveled road. I'm sure many folks have seen what I have seen and I wonder if any of them have stopped by to check.

BTW...I don't own a golf cart.

Glad to know CW will eventually address the issue. I'm a snowbird and have hired a company to take care of pests, termites, fertilize the lawn and spray for weeds. My lawn looks gorgeous and I don't have to worry about it when I'm gone for nine months. I just assumed when we bought here in TV that everyone is responsible for taking care of their lawn to make the overall look of this community pristine.

A lawn loaded with weeds that are a foot tall certainly draws negative attention. One of the strong points for choosing The Villages is the neighborhood appeal. When one starts making excuses for situations out of compliance the flood gates can open. We all have should have empathy though, and in my neighborhood a homeowner in need would be assisted. A blatantly negligent homeowner would be reported.

BTW, to assail coffeebean because of a legitimate concern that was brought to our attention makes no sense.

Passed by that yard today and we were amazed at the condition. It has been neglected for a very long time. Looks like a vacant lot in the south Bronx. We only say the back of the house. The front lawn must be a mess also. I agree with Chi-Town, why has the situation been allowed to escalate to this degree? Hopefully if someone is in crisis the neighbors would know since they can't be happy with the situation as it stands.

Thank you duffysmom for seeing it as I see it. Hopefully the situation will be taken care of soon. I leave TV tomorrow and hope to see the property in better condition when I return next season.

It appears that several of The Villages owned "For Sale" properties have some lawns that are not being weeded. I live near several of them, one directly behind us.

I was told by our lawn service that this year is very heavy on weeds due to the hard winter that has stunted many lawn into a slower return this spring.

This is true. The weeds have gotten a foothold where they hadn't before.....my lawn for instance. We've been treating but they are stubborn.

Perhaps I'll just keep them cut and no one will notice....cheaper than dealing with all the lawn grief.

You asked where The Weeds Police are. The last time I saw them they were over in a Village Watch thread jump starting cars.
