Default Children - all ages

We moved here to be in a 55+ community. I realize children in college or even just out of school need a place to live. My issue is with the children of all ages that abuse the generosity of their parents. How many time do we hear of these children of villagers being arrested for abuse. dui. assault. I say ban them from living in the villages. And as for the kindhearted grandparents that are raising their grandchildren. Please move to a family community. I know this is going to upset people but I am at the age that I don't care anymore. Most age restricted places limit the amount of time you can have visitors. Some do not allow rentals past 6 months. They limit non resident pool time to 10 am to noon. I have raised my family and want to enjoy my retirement

I think you might have moved to the wrong community. We have several owners whose adult children and grandchildren live with them near our home and have not had any bad experiences with them. You can't ban children or grandchildren 19 or over from living here, you should have known that when your purchased, if not you didn't do your homework. As far as how long visitors can stay or rentals beyond 6 months, once again you didn't do your homework. You made your bed now you have to sleep in it or go find a new one and good luck with that.

OP, Quit reading the online newspaper. They only point out the bad ones. You probably had the same ratio of troublemakers in your prior neighborhood.

I don't see that TV is overrun with young, noisy hooligans.

Geeze.

One of our neighbors has a special needs child....not a child, he is 31. They have him a community that is womderful....beautiful place that looks like a condo community in Florida.

When Covid hit...they basically closed the place except for those that had no where to go.
So my neighbors son has lives here for a year....he is wonderful...everyone so likes him.

But I agree...just because you can bring your druggie son or daughter here...its your issue..but Im not tolerating that crap for long.

But maybe the OP should have realized....this isnt a restricted community.

I love to see young visitors enjoying themselves here

Think OP is a grump

Very rare that young people get into trouble and for some reason the local paper thinks it should be a headline.

All of young people we have seen around here are well behaved.

The developer advertises The Villages as a gated and adult community. It isn’t. Lots of crime and drugs by adult children living here. We have good neighbors, no barking dogs or kids but know of bad situations elsewhere especially in the new section near Wildwood, one of the most dangerous cities in Florida.

I noticed that a lot of the people who get into trouble and still live with their parents are in their 40s and even 50s, it's not always the younger ones who live with parents

Perhaps you should have done your due diligence on 55+ Communities before moving to the Villages - but - it is never too late to learn. Housing-55 & Older Communities — Florida Commission on Human Relations

First of all TV meets the requirements of a 55 and over community, gated or not gated has nothing to do with the OP. There are more crimes by those 55 and over than by the children of residents as well as drug use. I have no idea where you get your facts regarding bad situations especially in the new sections near Wildwood. I have lived in Fenney for nearly 4 years, we have very minimal criminal activity here, rarely is anything reported in that on-line news outlet in our area most of the reported crimes are in areas north of 44. The areas of Wildwood that occasionally have crimes reported are all north of 44 also, not down here in the "new section" as you call it. By the way, Wildwood is not one of the most dangerous cities in Florida, it is not even in the top 20.

I expect there are more children here right now because so many public schools around the country are closed. Good time to come down and visit the grandparents, get out of the cold up north. Remote schooling can be done from grandma's guest room as easily as back home.

If the teachers ever agree to go back to work the kids will go home. This too shall pass.

I don't have a problem with rules. But, I do have a problem with rules that are not enforced. If The Villages is going to establish age related rules, they should also establish a system to enforce the rules when they are notified of a violation. Unfortunately, in many cases, they don't.

Not really. Maybe the only one upset is the poster.
