Default "Exhausted defending the President"

Has anyone seen this Town Hall meeting where this woman tells the President she is tired of defending the President in light of deteriorating economic reality? I think it's hilarious!!
You can also click on the President's response at this link and see if it comforts you.

Here's what scares, makes me mad, frustrates me...I don't know the correct words. Maybe dumbfounds me is what I'm looking for. When Obama said, "The life you described; one of responsibility, looking after your family, contributing back to your community that is one we want to reward."

That is what he wants to reward? Excuse me.

Unless I completely miss your point, this comment is more cynical than any of yours I've ever read. Instead of all the suspicion and trying to find some awful hidden meaning, why not just read the words for what they say?

The comment was in the context of the recession being declared 'over', and the woman still being frustrated by slow employment recovery. The President simply said that the kind of personal qualities this person exhibits are the stuff America is made of (my words) and the kind of attitude and effort the government considers most valuable and wishes to nurture and support. Support comes from things like extended unemployment benefits, tax incentives to businesses to hire and expand, access to health care, etc.
(Sorry it took me so many words to express what seems a simple thought.)

I didn't think he'd come back with anything.

In my eyes and to my ears this woman expressed her frustration with waiting for promises unfullfilled and unrealized, and wondering how much more her family had to endure in waiting for this utopia unrealized. The Presidents response was smoke and mirrors and had nothing to actually ease this woman's real concerns. It was a classic Obama farce. To get anything else out of the exchange, to me, rather naive.

OK. Drop your totally biased, completely negative attitude toward the President for a moment.
Make believe you are in his shoes. Tell me what you would say to this woman. Go ahead. Make it genuine, meaningful and even consoling if you can. You've even got the advantage of time to reflect......

If I were a speech writer, then I would craft a speech that met your challenge. I am not. Since that is true, I would make the following points in the answer to her:

1. This recovery is still fragile and we do not want to go into a double dip. Therefore I will support extending the Bush tax cuts for another five years.

2. I would say that we are going to cut government expenditures in every agency and start to reign in entitlement programs and eliminate every program that places an unfunded mandate upon the states.

3. I would say, correctly, that we have put in needed financial reforms - but recognize that some have gone too far including the 1099 reporting regulations.

4. I would be honest with the American people and say that taxes on companies that are supposed to save money for employees and consumers not only do not work but discourage research, development and manufacturing within the United States- and that I would introduce legislation to eliminate them.

This is what I would say in order to be honest with the American people.I leave it up to you for the consoling words. If it were me, I would say something similar to what Sir Winston Churchill said upon assuming the duties of Prime Minister ..."I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat." Climbing out of the hole we have dug ourselves into - energy dependence, balance of trade, budget deficits, etc will require sacrifice by all Americans. It is better to start today than after the ..... election. I hope that the American people do not need to be consoled but rather rise to the challenge of securing the future for posterity.

Default When a "leader" does not know what works, or how to change or stop

or start something....and does not know the impact of what he is doing or not doing he of course is not leading and is relying on trial and error. And since he has surrounded himself with like or lessor in capacity than he is....no added value there either.
The answer is he is not a leader.
His words and his actions every single day do no more than confirm he does nothing unless it is for political gain. He will continue to play safe and flail back and forth with opinions and popularity to suit the moment or the audience. He maintains the blame the other guy for lack of progress....because he does not know enough about anything to take on the responsibility.
He is very consistent in his lack of leadership ability.
As an executive he would not have made it one year in corporate America with this kind of non-performance.

Besides all the good points that BBQ made, he could say to this woman "Yes, you're concerns are good ones and I indeed have blown it with all this ill-advised out of control spending and corporate micro management. So, in the short term I'll be extending the Bush tax cuts, and not one to overlook a good thing, will be expanding them. I also will be eliminating capital gains taxes for 2 years and then re-evaluate them at that time in order to stimulate rapid growth in the private sector"

How's that for a start?

ok, let's adopt the Republican program, even though that program led us to the worst financial calamity since the 30's. That's a good one.

It would have been a terrible scene. The woman breaking down and hysterically crying out,

"No!!!! I'm a little frustrated, but I know it's going to take longer for employment to catch up with the the other improvements in the economy. Pleeeease don't give up on the path which has worked thus far, just because there are some loud people out there, (who have also benefitted from, and will continue to benefit from those actions in the future), who just like to complain and criticize. Their formulas are not magic, and you are already taking the best elements and incorporating them in your programs. NOBODY would even be remotely suggesting that the recession was over were it not for the legislation and other steps pushed by the administration in eighteen short months. I realize you could have been wishy-washy and tried to please everyone, but you've had the courage to say and do the things that have to be said and done to get us out of this mess. Instead of hearing nothing but 'no', I say 'yes', stay the course, and thank you Mr. President"
