I am asking if anyone has used the Straight Talk Unlimited Talk, Text and Web service from Wal Mart? What are the pros and cons? It sounds too good to be true and many time that can be a problem. Are the call clear when you are talking on the Wal Mart phone. We travel up the north east corridor frequently and want to be able to make calls when necessary. Any comments would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have the 'limited' plan ... $30/month ... 1000 minutes talk, 1000 messages ...
Good reception and quality, and texting works fine. I just use it as a phones, and not for any internet 'smart phone' services, so don't know if those services are also good. I am happy with the plan. |

There are a few places in the mountains in PA and West Virginia where I lost service while traveling. Other than that, I highly recommend the Walmart phone. |

I have the Samsung Proclaim from Straight Talk that uses the Verizon network. It is a very nice smart phone. I have the $45 month unlimited plan and my husband has the same phone with the $60 month unlimited international plan so I can call my brother in Canada. We are both satisfied with the coverage and the apps.

Straight Talk is a registered trademark of TracFone Wireless. TracFone works great for me, but I just wanted a phone.
Good comparison on the services provided. http://www.compare-prepaid-cell-phon...-tracfone.html

Virtually all of these various "independent" plans such as WalMart's Straight Talk and others operate by purchasing time from the major suppliers such as Verizon & AT&T. If you are buying onto one of these services your signal is riding on the same platform as somebody who has a brand-name contract with Verizon or another major supplier. Your signal is not being handled by the "Screen Door Cell Phone & Feed Mill Company of East Plowhandle Georgia", so your reception should not be a problem. For the most part, people who mostly just want to make a call are far, far better off on the different bundlers such as the WalMart plan than in signing an expensive contract with Verizon or AT&T. Personally, I have a Verizon contract, but I have to make heavy use of the internet & other services in my phone. Otherwise I would drop my Verizon like a bad habit and pick up one of these other plans. They are much more affordable for the average cell user.

I have AT&T smart plan, I like it and prefer it over a contract with something like Verizon which I had and would never have again. It depends on how much you are going to use the services

I just bought the straight talk service and phone and absolutely love it! The reception is so clear and the LG is awesome to text on. I got the $45 plan powered by Verizon.

Has anyone tried using Straight Talk with their existing iPhone? I read it was possible, but not a simple process. I hate giving up my iPhone - I love it.

If you have an older iPhone (i.e. 3GS or older), you are probably stuck with whomever you have your current service. If your iPhone is newer, it has a SIM card that can be switched out to use another network. Here's the caveat: Most carriers will NOT unlock your iPhone to use a competitors network. For instance, I have a Verizon iPhone and they will not unlock it to use AT&T's network. They will, however, unlock the phone so I can use it internationally. If you go to Europe, you can have your iPhone unlocked and purchase a SIM card from T-Mobile or Vodaphone, etc. and have local service there...much cheaper than in the US. You also get unlimited data plan for the time you're there. The other alternative available is the "jailbreak" your iPhone. Be advised, it will void any warranty you have remaining and a law was just passed that makes it illegal. I would say procede with caution, in this regard. Best of luck, in your quest.... |
