Well, The Daily Sun had an article regarding 3 burglary incidents in The Villages in today's issue.
The one on Allaire Loop was confusing. It said the homeowners arrived to find a garage door open. Does that mean they accidentally left the garage door open when they left or was it a small side door? First thing I would be asking - after which door was open, would be to see if they had any workmen in the house recently who knew a small safe was there. The first mentioned in the article was someone called the police because "some change" was missing from his car - that he was unsure if the car was locked or not. Some change was missing? Unless it was a large container of change on the seat, who would know they were missing change? I keep a small baggie of quarters in the side pocket for meters but that is out of view and I would not know it was gone until I reached for it - and there is not more than $2.50 in it. Sounds strange, doesn't it? The one on Adrienne Way sounds like the door was pried open. |

Three is what I was told by Sumter County Sheriffs office. . Really kind of close together. This was in the last 12 days. I am thinking they didn't mention another one for sure earlier in Sanibel. Which would make TWO kick ins and four burglaries all together. One mentioned was change from a car. One mentioned that nothing was stolen but the door kicked in. (???)One mentioned involved a safe, but the earlier kick in involved a safe too. (That is curious) She assured me that they are really working on this problem. I hope they catch these low life critters soon. I do NOT mean to challenge anything said earlier by any posters, just to restate for people off campus.

This whole subject is curious, Gracie, and getting "curiouser". Having followed these threads I did some math. The result indicates a veritable crime wave is rampant. The facts seem to indicate otherwise. This has been a tempest in a tea pot. All it has accomplished is upset a lot of people unnecessarily and add ammunition for the doom and gloomers. Thanks for taking the time to call the authorities and informing us of the facts. I would like to think this would put an end to this but the doom and gloomers are not easily satisfied. |

I appreciate the information contained here on the recent burglaries south of 466A. The posters helped me alert my neighbors in Pinellas that there were a number of robberies east of us. Some of these robberies included doors kicked in. Older posts north of 466A included information on open garages being robbed. This has helped me personally, as I no longer leave my garage open even when I am doing yard work. We are also vigilant in locking our doors and watching for any suspicious activity. South of 466A we have had a recent wave of criminal activity, but I think that when all the building is completed there will be less strangers all over place. The Villages is a safe place to live and overall has a low crime rate, but it pays to stay alert.

I don't believe anyone on this forum lied about any burglaries. So I don't see this as a tempest in a teapot. I see it as posters warning others to be vigilant.

It's my teapot, by golly, and I'm ready to fight for truth and justice. It's only a tempest if you think the homeowners with kicked in doors and missing their wedding rings aren't suffering.
I'm in a swarm of construction and was leaving the hood today when I followed an unmarked truck going round and round the neighborhood. I stayed on him till he went out of my hood and into the next one, where he finally stopped at a vacant house. Long story short, they are follow up painters who couldn't find section 211. Indeed they behaved suspiciously, and I got their tag, truck id, names, etc.... Sic 'em, Kitty. |

There was a post, in another thread on this, that had the owners email in it and it said that the sliders were popped (not much of a feat). The bedroom was rifled (night stands are always first, that is where most people keep a gun) and they stole tools. Probably opened the garage door and walked to their waiting car after grabbing tools. I find it odd that these guys are batting 1000 on hitting empty homes, they have to be watching, or able to watch while they are here on legitimate business. I appreciate that there has been a heavy presence by the sheriff recently. |

Usually a good sign to attack house, is when everything is closed up tight. Could be workers, who have been working in neighborhood, whether be lawn care or something else. Each time they arrive in area, nothing has changed on house they were eyeing. Exterminaters, are another culprit. After they are done, they leave the receipt stuck in door, and it stays there for weeks or months. Good neighbors are good to have, who check home, and pick up notices, papers and other objects that could be a give away. I take care of my neighbors homes on both sides of me. When they are gone, I check house every 4 or 5 days, just to see if anything was disturbed etc

![]() Well if informing villagers that bad actors are out and about is forming a tempest in a teapot then I want to thank those tempesters. It is without doubt that these members are very alert about events happening here and I for one appreciate the time and effort they expend in keeping us informed And by the way in some areas its called Neighborhood Watch |

I am wondering, is there a phone number to call for the sheriff's department other than calling 911?
If we see a suspicious vehicle roaming in our area and want to give a heads up to local law enforcement to come and take a look, make their presence more visible, I wonder if that would help that neighborhood in deterring break-ins, a sort of a Neighborhood Watch without the signage. |

Here is a link to the Sumter County Sheriffs site; Welcome to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Website And here is the number, non emergency to The Villages office;352.689.4600. And here is the number for Criminal Investigations; 352.569.1680 When I called the three people I talked to were all responsive and warm and interested in my concerns and very forthcoming. I think they are really working hard on this and we need to call them with anything suspicious.

Perhaps along with all the energy efficiency that's been built into homes in TV in the last few years, they could come up with some security items to be included in a house build. Starting with a better door frame system, more secure windows, and locking system for sliders.
