Curious if retired military ID is accepted for air travel/Real ID?

Never start your post with a question.
You'll draw out only the stupid and snarky replies.

First let me truly thank you for your service. I can understand your insulted feelings. My guess is that the drivers licenses with the holograms are more secure than the ones issued by the military. I cannot imagine any other reason. It isn’t hard to understand why someone like you, who gave so much, to feel offended. I hope you can let it go and know that we appreciate you despite this incident

My reply was not stupid or snarky. I was just answering the OP's question.

My son lives in Texas. Went to the IRS yesterday to get his taxes straightened out (was compromised). Agent asked for two photo ID’s. Gave them his drivers license and his military VA ID (West-point Grad) she told him that they would not except military ID as second form of proof. He was insulted as well.

I won't comment as to whether you are being "too sensitive ". I am taken aback that an ID would be required to deposit money INTO an account. IMO, this is just another effort on the government's part to attempt to keep track of every monetary transaction that occurs.

Ostensibly this violation of our privacy is necessary to "fight terrorism" , or to wage our "war on drugs", but it's a very convenient opportunity to make it harder to launder money and avoid taxation. If one believes the government should have the right to invade privacy to enforce laws, then this would make one happy.

As far as which forms of ID are acceptable, perhaps it is as simple as the government understanding that certain forms of ID are more easily, perhaps TOO easily, forged. I don't know how easily forged a military ID is. I suspect the government is aware of these things though. I feel pretty confident that it's not intended as a slight to those who have served.

No idea why ID is needed when making a deposit. Anyone is welcome to deposit to my account without ID. 👍

Maybe you should consider not insulting a fellow veteran any further , who quite possibly fought for our freedoms .
Florida , many young people and it appears you are not veteran friendly and could care less about us . In addition what about veterans who are service related disabled and do not drive / no driver’s license. Could be your woke / cancel culture toward our military and veterans. Sad

One reason is to prevent illegal money laundering. Another is to prevent income tax evasion.

I was told they no longer take a military ID card as a valid Government issued ID card. A State of Florida driver's license, which I have been getting by mail for decades, was OK, but not a retired military ID card or any other military ID.

I was insulted. I have thought about it for a few days and I am still insulted by their policy. Am I being too sensitive? Or possibly was their answer of it being company policy wrong and there is some security issue behind it all that I have not heard about?
We veterans are victims of woke / cancel culture. Maybe a veteran is service related disabled. Take your money out of that bank and
deposit into Chase . They seem to be veteran friendly and provide us
additional benefits. Take your money out of citizens first .

I think you should pursue this with a higher level at the bank. I am not past military, but I have high respect for those who served our country and have issue with this “policy” (or this ill informed clerk). A military ID is a valid form of identification to obtain a United States Passport so rinky dink local Citizens bank needs their policies checked!

Not insensitive at all! Everyone, including banks, owe you a debt for your service. I suspect that there are plenty of banks around that would accept your military ID. Let Citizens First know why you are leaving.

I have been in the exact same predictament. A little known law was passed after 911. It mandates a serial number of each and every citizen. There a re a lot of states that have not been certified yet, but Florida is in compliance. That is why a couple of years ago when you renewed you DL after 50 years you had to dig up birth certificates, tax receipts and other stuff to prove who you were. The person you were dealing with was just ignorant , both meanings .Military ID cards are a government issued legal form of ID I'd find another bank just for to make a point.
