A few days ago we received an email showing delivery of a product we ordered on-line. A check of the USPS tracking number indicated it had been dropped off at our front door at 7pm. The problem was there had been no delivery.
We left a note for the mailman wondering if by chance he remembered delivering it to a different home. He stopped by our house and told us the USPS is having a lot of troubles. And that the package in question had been delivered by a third party service (presumably a USPS contractor). And it had been dropped off on a Wheeler or Wheeling Street somewhere in The Villages. We're not sure how they knew where it ended up, but the USPS was not allowed to give us the address where it had been left due to privacy concerns. He suggested contacting the supplier and telling them to re-ship the items in question. That seems like a poor response to a USPS error. And in this case even that answer is available, because the shipper was an individual and the item is not replaceable. In the past we've had pretty good luck with the USPS, but this event (and several less significant, but equally as annoying issues lately) have given them a black eye from our perspective. |

I pick up our mail about once a week. This week I received 16 pieces of mail.
2 were addressed to us. 9 were for different addresses, which I took the time to drop off at their homes. ( All were very appreciative) The 5 pieces left were for deceased people for at least 6 years, those I actually have stickers printer because I got tired of hand writing, “ return to sender this person is deceased.” Bonus is we haven’t gotten junk mail since December |

In 2006 Congress passed a law that required the USPS to fund it's retirement plan for the next 75 years in 10 years. No other federal organization or even private company it required to do that. Last year the head of the USPS removed high speed sorting machines, cut back hours and told employees to leave mail if it couldn't be delivered by the end of the shift.
WHY? The USPS is an independent organization not answerable to Congress, except by law. For years Congress has been wanting to get it's hands on the revenue from the USPS to spend on pet projects. If they can show that the USPS is not profitable the public may allow them to take over the USPS. If it wasn't for the 2006 law, the USPS would have been showing a profit all these years. |

RE: Mail delivery issues
It's useful to indicate which The Villages mail station you are having issues with. Otherwise it leaves everyone wondering if it is their mail location. Down here in Marsh Bend, there are two mail stations: one by Everglades and the other near Cattail. Both have great contract employees who are very attentive to delivery problems. Each day they pick up mail from the Lady Lake USPS Post Office, and sort it for both mail stations. They'll place mail into your mailbox if it fits; if not, into one of the lockers. If too large for the lockers, they will deliver it to your doorstep. UPS and FedEx deliver directly to your doorstep. Are mistakes made? Sometimes yes, but if you let the people at your mail station know about a problem, they will try to help. Many issues are related to forwarding problems. Also, sometimes people do not pay attention to the delivery notice. A few weeks ago, someone claimed that the notice they got from the USPS Informed Delivery showed that the item was delivered. Alas, the notice that was publicly visible showed that the item had been forwarded, not delivered. Unfortunately, there are a few mail stations here that do have continuing problems. For those, it is important to work with the local delivery people, or file a formal complaint with the USPS. It's important to identify the mail station with problems. Get to know your delivery contractor; you'll find that almost all of them are just like you and me.

Agree with M2inOR that service can depend on the postal station; we haven't had any problem at all in Hillsborough. What Informed Delivery tells me to look for is always in my box that evening. Twice the woman who works our station drove to our house to deliver something that was too large to fit into the box - I don't know what else I could ask for.

We do, but sometimes it just ends back in my mail box. This week half of the misguided mail were card envelopes. I was raised it would be disrespectful, not to get them to the correct person. After all maybe it was their birthday and they thought nobody remembered. Each person I dropped mail, at their home, much appreciated the effort. Today a neighbor 2 streets over stopped to give me 3 pieces of my mail put in their box. Maybe we just care a little to much and take the time to help a neighbor

Not inferring that you were not a nice, caring, respectful person by using the miss-sorted mail slot.

The other day a ladies mailbox had a box stuffed in it, and she could not get it out. Went to the back knocked on the door. Response “not my area you have to come back. Rather than have her come back, I helped her get the box and rest of mail, it was a struggle for me, but the right thing to do, even if the party inside was unwilling. We have been here since 2010, the last few years have been noticeably different with mail. |

Occasionally. They lost my bank saving statement or put in the wrong box. Now all my personnel banking information out there. This caused me to open up new saving account. Transfer the money and close the old account. I have bad feeling it’s only going to get worse? |
