If a dog bites someone you have to make sure it was vaccinated or you better get your rabies shots. You can die!

767.04 Dog owner’s liability for damages to persons bitten.—The owner of any dog that bites any person while such person is on or in a public place, or lawfully on or in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, is liable for damages suffered by persons bitten, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owners’ knowledge of such viciousness. However, any negligence on the part of the person bitten that is a proximate cause of the biting incident reduces the liability of the owner of the dog by the percentage that the bitten person’s negligence contributed to the biting incident. A person is lawfully upon private property of such owner within the meaning of this act when the person is on such property in the performance of any duty imposed upon him or her by the laws of this state or by the laws or postal regulations of the United States, or when the person is on such property upon invitation, expressed or implied, of the owner. However, the owner is not liable, except as to a person under the age of 6, or unless the damages are proximately caused by a negligent act or omission of the owner, if at the time of any such injury the owner had displayed in a prominent place on his or her premises a sign easily readable including the words “Bad Dog.” The remedy provided by this section is in addition to and cumulative with any other remedy provided by statute or common law.

There is more in the chapter, however also that cart came from villages - they do have a record of every cart bought, they could probably identify it over at Brownwood. just a thought.

Summary: These Florida statutes outline the state's dog provisions, which mainly cover dangerous dog/dog bite laws. The owner of any dog that bites any person while such person is on or in a public place, or lawfully on or in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, is liable for damages suffered by persons bitten, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owners' knowledge of such viciousness. However, any negligence on the part of the person bitten that is a proximate cause of the biting incident reduces the liability of the owner of the dog by the percentage that the bitten person's negligence contributed to the biting incident. If a dog that has previously been declared dangerous attacks or bites a person or a domestic animal without provocation, the owner is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree. The dog will be impounded for a period of ten days during which time the owner of the dog may request a hearing.

Default Ouch!

To cover yourself in case you need to sue the SOB you will need a doctors report and also a police report would help you. This guy will be found but I bet he will not pay for any expenses so be prepared to go to small claims court.

File a report. Bring pictures with you. Hold those people responsible.
If you don't, it could happen to someone else if it hasn't already.

The police can help find the person. They can also tell you if you can post pictures on social media to help find him.

Many folks (young and old) are on social media all day.

i understand your point, you raise valid questions. in most cases the dogs scrap a bit, possibly to establish territory, then 'move on' to other activities (for lack of better word). most people are caring re: their pets & will accept responsibility for that pets' actions. i don't think anyone WANTS the guy incarcerated/dog put down, just own up to whatever his dog has done, maybe exchange names, pay for stitches, etc. --the situation did not have to end like this.

It’s amazing how the people on this blog jump onto a bandwagon and then want “blood”. Perhaps put down the hangman noose and wait for both sides of the story? Or better yet, get a life!

So we all "assume" the story is actually how it happened. Every story has 2 sides. This person is certainly quilty with no knowledge of the "truth"

This man, and I use that term loosely, really deserves to be hauled up short by either the authorities or in a court of law. Apparently, others saw this happening. Yet, this miserable excuse for a human being still walked off. He should be made an example of. Once found, I think his home should be subject to protests. He needs to come forward....quickly....and admit his failure to act as a responsible human being. Perhaps his dog should also be euthanized...whether the dog is sick or not. That is the type of pup that should not be welcome in the Villages under any circumstance. And this lousy human being should not be welcome in the Villages either.

I am on the lookout for that cart. If it was driven by an abettor, too bad for him. He, too, should be ostracized.
Agree with response except where his house should be picketed and his dog euthanized even if not rabid. First let legal recourse deal with the a-hole and second we don’t know why dog bit him so let’s not jump to conclusions

Default Mad dog

I would think TV security could find a cart with the two names on it that you have . police report they might try to track him down. Any chance he was busy with his friend out side the fence and did not see what happened?

I think most people here are not so much angered at the dog. Dogs DO bite sometimes, and we might never know the reason. It is that the human in this situation did not take responsibility for his critter. “Grandpa” slinking off is the COWARD’S way. No matter what the other side of story is, the guy with the dog was in the wrong for “escaping” without taking measures to fix the problem his animal caused. GRANDPA and his driver should be ashamed of such cowardly and selfish behavior. Be a man and own up.
