Years ago, there was a post about a TV restaurant that was extremely negative. The poster talked about the place being dirty, rude employees....on and on. I knew the owners of the restaurant and wanted them to be aware that their place was being slammed here on TOTV. I copied the original post, emailed it to them and told them to go on TOTV to comment if they felt it was needed. They did come on, they explained and had lengthy discussions with the folks that had complaints. It all ended very well.

Sometimes it helps to let the company/store/restaurant know if someone is publicly slamming them on social media.

That's true.

The problem here sounds like a Private Message was sent and that was e-mailed to the company. Private Messages are often meant to be Private.

You never know just whom you are talking on TOTV unless you know the poster personally.

I have sent people some Private Messages which I hope stayed Private.

I am sorry if I have upset you. I forwarded the post to the company because I have always had a great relationship and experience with them and wanted to make sure if they were failing to do the same for someone they were notified. I owned my own business for many many years and I would have wanted someone to do the same so that I could diagnose a problem and fix it. I was trying to help your situation. Again, I apologize.

Usually it is when the message board offers anonymity that people become their nastiest. Check Topix Talk of the Villages Thread for a contrast.

Personally, I think that you did the right thing. If the OP did not want to be in the public...maybe, just maybe they should not have posted names in a public forum....

I posted yesterday asking if anyone had info on a company we are dealing with as we have been unable to get them to return calls for 6 weeks or more. I received 1 PM from a name I won't mention. I messaged him back "privately". Or so I thought. Well much to my surprise we finally heard from the company today and only because of this post. The person who sent the pm went directly to the company. They actually emailed a copy of my post. So angry and not sure if this person is actually a troll. I will discuss with the moderator to figure it out. Right now just feel so deceived TOV has been so helpful in the past

Here it is in a nutshell. Second poster was trying to help. Personally, I would have sent a message back the OP making it known I had a contact in the company and asking permission, to contact them on his behalf but that's me and the way I do business.

Secondly, I would never put something in writing for the world to see, unless I was absolutely sure that I was willing to put up with any repercussions that might follow.

Thirdly, If one has a complaint, the best way is to talk to management. Coming on TOTV, usually doesn't yield tangible results. Love the person who ate her sandwich and complained to management that it, wasn't good. Management comped her another lunch.

The DS had a quote from Budda the other day, "holding on to one's anger, is like drinking poison and expecting your enemies to die".

I agree with VT that almost everyone is helpful on this site, except for a couple of people. Anyway, sounds like a happy ending.

The road to perdition is paved with good intentions. It was not another poster's right to a) breach a trust (i.e something exchanged in a private message and b) take it upon himself/herself to contact the vendor in question. If the poster had good intentions s/he should have PM the OP and offered to help( i.e. sought permission to act)

I believe one should assume that anything you post or share in a PM is going to be fair game. So forewarned is forearmed

EVERYTHING that is posted on line has the potential to be seen by anyone!!!
"Private" emails, "Private" messages, pictures, etc, etc. Even things that you search for.

You may think you have the most secure computer and your privacy settings are making things seem secure......think again!

Don't put anything on line that you don't want the world to know!

And thus we have Tor.

But EVERYTHING you have ever put on Facebook (even deleted things) are still public record and they own. Google? Same. Your Android phone...well, Google owns Android.

Nothing ever ever goes away for real online. But, like I said - thank god for Tor.

I am guilty of doing the same thing. Someone posted a few years back that a business was not getting back to them and they were extremely upset. I know the business well and mentioned it to them because they are usually very good. The business did get back with them and gave many apologies and explained some things that had been going on. They got everything worked out & all were happy campers.
