TV is a safe place. People who live in a safe place don"t often commit crimes in said safe place.
I like the insurance argument. Yoda |

I like the insurance idea, too. Those who carry arms are not necessarily "afraid" as some people believe. It is a part of who they are, and the way they insure the safety of their home and family, much the same as an insurance policy.
The way I insure the safety of my home and family is to always lock my doors whether it's day or night time, to use motion sensor lights, and to always be aware of my surroundings. Being aware of my surroundings also means knowing that there is a fair amount of property crime in TV while crimes against people is quite low. And, I never place myself in a position of becoming a potential target, which would then impact my family, and those called upon to protect, or rescue me. While I love TV as much as anyone, I am not willing to take on the responsibility of causing a false sense of security by saying there is no crime in TV. That would be an injustice to others, who then may not take precautions.

Look at that Connecticut doctor's family where the mom, two daughters were held captive and set on fire. Lovely neighborhood. Two ex cons. Vermont is probably the lowest crime state in the nation and yet we all now lock our doors, use the motion sensors and no longer let these roving sales people into the house. Neither small town nor rural areas are as safe as they used to be. With parolee's needing drug money and thinking retired people are an easy mark, it could happen. Better safe than sorry. |

What my husband always says about Vermont (when I bring up the subject of home invasions as seen on the news).....he says, "there are so many guns in Vermont, meaning rifles, pistols, everything, that no military organization or group of individuals could take over the state of Vermont where we have our gun rights. Obviously, hunting is big up here.....but even non hunters have guns and crime is low....compared to other places. If you read the Orlando Sentinel there are murders every day.

It wouldn't be the people living in TV but strangers who might come in to work in the community........or just wander in...... |

Drug crime is rampant all over the U.S. The gangs try to infiltrate even small town America to get the kids hooked which gives them a bigger income. We raised our children in a trusting environment in small town America and yet the world is a different place today for our grandchildren's safety. I never even thought of our children being abducted, molested, etc. It never entered my mind. But...times have changed....in every aspect of crime in America. Also, whereas before they would commit insane people, now they roam the streets. Everyone has "rights" except the victims of crime...or so it seems. |

As my husband says, even career criminals retire someday. Not too long ago I found quite a list of Villagers on the Sexual Offender List. I haven't looked since then........so not sure what the number is at the moment.........but it gave me pause at the time.....thinking ahead to visiting grandchildren. Guess I've been watching too much of the I.D. channel which has Main Street Murders and Investigative Discovery, Forensics, etc., Dateline and so forth. |
