Its all due to the increase of gas guzzling golf carts. You can see the haze of carbon above your head. it is also because of the sewer plants converting dirty water so the viilages can water courses' It is also because of the high humidity and warm tems along with all that rain. its also because of all the fertilization being done here to keep everything lush and green. The Villages is creating a huge carbon footprint and that is the real reason for the IRS bond dispute.

When we were staying in TV, we were HAPPY that the sprinkler water had no odor. The sulphur smell on the east coast was nauseating....but that's what they sprinkled the lawns with. It was Saint Augustine grass.

North of 466 the sprinklers use plain water like from the tap.
South of 466 the lawn sprinklers use water from the ponds.

South of 466 when the sprinklers first come on it is stinky. The water has been sitting there and fermenting in the heat, after a minute or two it isn't so bad.

I don't think the odor is from sprinklers. I wonder what it is.

That makes a lot of sense based on what I read yesterday.....re weather conditions and sulphur smells.......hope that "Dorian" or whatever it is now moves on out fast.......

it is the reclaimed water they use to water the landscape areas and also the lawns. in most of the areas south of Sumter landing you have 2 sets of pipe one for potable water and one for reclaimed water for irriagation. some of reclaimed water is from the sewer plant that has been treated

Then why wouldn't it smell all of the time. Posters are saying they could smell it last night and this morning?

Yes, it is the reclaimed water used for irrigation. I noticed it first time I was here 4 years ago. Don't notice it any more, guess I've gotten used to it.

Why are they sprinkling? I thought you had above normal rain the past few weeks. Are they trying to lower the ponds to prevent flooding? If so, wouldn't the pond water be fairly fresh and not stinky?

Is that reclaimed water healthy???

Come to think of it, when we did our 4 day lifestyle visit at Creekside Landing there was a sign by the home that said something about "reclaimed water".
Creekside Landing is near Lake Sumter Landing.

So, "reclaimed water" has a sulphur like odor???

Thanks in advance .....we do recall that smell from the east coast, beach side, of Florida.....when the irrigation sprinkler system would go on at home.

The home sprinkler systems go on automatically.....I guess whatever the owner sets them to. We were there the month of November and the sprinklers were operating at the home we rented, however, the water did not smell like sulphur at all. Just plain water. No problem in Calumet Grove.

BECAUSE Calumet Grove is NORTH of 466 where they use tap water like from inside the house.
Reclaimed water from ponds is used SOUTH of 466. It can be stinky especially in high temperatures.

The smell is new area wide last night and this morning and folks are not relating sprinkler smells but a general smell to the area. I don't have a clue what it is..

I don't know about steel mills, but wood pulp paper mills have a terrible odor. Whenever we'd pass inland through the town of Rumford Maine which has the cutest waterfalls........it often had that odor......from the mill....but that mill provided the livelihood for the town.....the row houses were still there, that housed the workers back in the day.....

In the early 1900s two mills that are still in operation today were built on opposite ends of the state. Hugh J. Chisholm opened the Oxford Paper Company’s Rumford mill, now owned by NewPage, in 1901. In 1906 St. Croix Paper opened the Baileyville (Woodland) mill, now owned by Woodland Pulp LLC.

Amelia Island Florida used to have the same type operation and residents complained of the odor from the paper mill..........a neighbor friend of ours who just happens to be a retired anesthesiologist bought a home on Amelia Island.........but later sold it. So, for now, the doctor and his wife are staying put in Vermont. The particles used to fly through the air and land on the cars.....

We also used to pass some big huge paper mill while driving south to Florida, perhaps in Georgia? Not sure.....but the smokestacks would let out a terrible odor.

So, between sulphur smell and wood pulp and steel mills....don't know which is the worst. I guess anything could be worse than an occasional odor of sulphur............as long as it is not methane gas. If that smell is inside the house, then it would be worrisome.............people do experience that during HEAVY RAINS........and in some flooding situations.
It would come up from the toilet........
