Yep. Either talk to the dude (which you won't do since you posted it on TOTV, or talk to the Cops (which you also won't do for the same reason). What good does it do to post it here?

I would get advice of a police officer. I would either call them, go to the police station or flag one down. This is a serious problem. Those of you who say MYOB or it's just part of The Villages, I'll bet you will change your mind if he injures you or a loved one. This is not "a look the other way situation." Drinking and driving anything is very dangerous. I applaud the OP for trying to make a difference.

He was looking for honest advice. It's apparent most of you have never dealt with alcoholism or the devastation it can wreak. We ALL see things our neighbor's do...don't act like you don't. I don't get that he was spying, going thru trash or anything else suggested. He is, after time, becoming aware of an apparent problem. Again, unfortunately, there isn't a lot he can do about it. Maybe speaking with the police will get him some answers on how to handle it. Most alcoholics don't take the advice of loved ones, let alone a neighbor.

I applaud you for trying to help us all by getting this guy off the roads. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do. A drunk is a drunk is a drunk...nothing will stop him until he hurts or Kills someone or himself. NOTHING!!! I believe it is a common practice here and we all need to be aware of the other drivers, especially later in the day.

Again, it great that you are trying and concerned, but I think it's a waste of your time. It will continue.

As you can see, you don't get that posting on an Internet blog.

Exclamation How would you feel

The question is how would anyone feel if the drunk hit someone and injured them badly or killed them. Call the police and tell them and let them handle it.

I guess maybe the police could at least be on the watch for him.

Sorry Bogie....you're wrong on this one. Driving drunk IN A GOLF CART does NOT happen everywhere. Tell us one other place where 1,000's of folks use a golf cart as their main mode of transportation?

He's completely anonymous.....and I'm sure that most people that know him, know he has a booze problem. The OP is simply the only one who has the balls to ask for advice on how to help get him off the road.

Perhaps someone from a local chapter of AA would know the means of an appropriate intervention? The OP might try contacting that group. I believe their meetings and contact info is published in the weekly Rec News.

Exclamation What is Going On?

This is NOT a case of live and let live as the person may take away the other persons to "life". Look at it as a simple.. There is a "drunk" driving either a golf
cart and/or car and they should be taken off the road. A lot of times what sobers a person up is by either being arrested or going to jail. In either case if a person reports a drunk and either happens to them that person [caller] has done a service to the drunk and the community. As I said do what it takes to get the drunk off the path or the road.

If I had a neighbor that I know is a drunk, driving drunk and had seen him almost cause accidents a number of times and I was concerned, I definitely wouldn't be posting on TOTV asking for advice. I would be calling the police if I was so concerned about them killing someone while they were drunk.
