is that SO hard to do????
And then we can listen to everyone complain about using our fees to change a system that is fine just the way it is.

Whoah, hold on there my friend. I was responding to a comment that was refuting your statement that the "gates mean nothing". You had offered no acknowledgement that they do serve a purpose, nor did you offer an alternative and better way to accomplish what the gates provide. You simply stated "especially since they mean nothing."

I agree with Orange Blossom's comment. Many people post opinions that the gates do nothing because they aren't designed to turn away non-resident traffic. The fact that is not their purpose doesn't mean they have no purpose. As one who frequently wishes to cross busy streets in my golf cart, I appreciate the purpose and function of the gate. I don't see how agreeing with his statement came across as thinking everyone else is stupid.

If you want to start a conversation about how you have a superior way to accomplish what the gates provide, do so, but that's not what you were on about.

Secondly we were going past a gate and watched a lady open it with her cell phone???? anyone know what that is???

I'd bet a free luch at McDonalds that she didn't use an APP on the phone (or the phone by iteself) to open the gate. The 25+ year old technology the gates use have no way of accepting a signal sent by a phone or phone app. Something ATTACHED to (like an attached wallet) the phone is another story but the phone itself, didn't happen. Also, it's possible the gate attendant (if it was an attended gate) opened it for her. I have had that happen as well.

You can press your card against the driver window and it will kitten the gate. Handy when raining.

She could have one of these. They work great but you would still need to put your phone at the window or outside of it which could lead to an expensive drop.

I have my card attached with double sided tape to the little triangular window in front of the driverside window of my car. When i pull up to the gate, the reader senses my card and automatically opens the gate. It works for me 100% at all the gates. No need to touch the card or roll down the window.

Sweet! What are you driving? I haven't had one of those since I sold my '67 Beetle.

You will learn that the gates do mean something when you try to cross in front of one when the arm broken.

The gates main purpose is so stop cars so the golf carts can get by in front of them. It's a safety thing they worked out a long time ago.

Old news...

During construction, some gates open automatically a couple of seconds after stopping at the gate.

No card needed.

Yeah, but have you tried just holding the card up to the window? That will open the gate in my car.

(I'm just going to keep posting this until you confess that it really does work in your wife's car, you just forgot to try it)

Far from a tech nerd. In some cars the card works through the glass in others it does not. Type of glass? It does not work in my car.
