I had a GE refrigerator for 27 years and it was great. Bought a new high end Profile Arctica to replace it have been sorry ever since. It groans, the fan is noisy, it freezes food in the refer side even when the temperature setting is low, the doors do not seal properly, circuit cards burn out, the freezer shelves are too small so they slip out of their tracks. I have had this lemon repaired more in the last 3 years than the previous GE in 27 years. This is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. I will be moving to TV in a year or so and guess what is not making the trip. I will immediately replace any GE appliance installed in any home I buy. It reminds me a lot of the last Pontiac I purchased. Spent as much time under the hood as in the drivers seat. I believe GE will follow Pontiac down the road to financial ruin.

My GE's are doing fine.
In the world of big business, I am guessing that a signing fee is part of the deal. I for one would think that getting this contract is quite a plum and guaranteed sales for the company that landed it and that signing money has to come out of somebody's pocket. And...of course there will be problems. There always are. That is life. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Six plus years with my GE equipment and as of yet not one unit has shat the bed. Now the irrigation system, that's another story!

So, from what I read the GE appliances are "bottom of the barrel"? Do you think they will buy better Whirlpool? We are seriously thinking about a move to TV and are trying to decide on a house plan...so many choices...so little time....! Any ideas from folks out there? We need minimum of 3-4 bedrooms as we need a craft type room we can leave set up. I read a lot of negative on here...is it all true or are these rumors? Some of it scares me...is this a good decision? We hope so.

There is a wide array of floorplans to choose from. You're probably best to get yourself to TV and have a look at them all for yourself to see what you like coupled with what you'll want to spend. Total cost for a specific house can vary widely depending on the lot - corner lot, wider/deeper than standard lot, golf/water view, golf/water frontage, etc. can add dramatically to the cost. If you're wanting to buy new, get hooked up with a TV representative and they can take care of everything you need. Don't overlook resale houses, either! You'll need to connect with both a TV representative as well as an MLS realtor to see the full gamut of resale homes listed. Regardless......you'll like it in TV!! JMHO - - - ![]() Bill |

Thanks for the feedback...we've been trying to follow some of these discussions but I just got up the nerve to "post" something today...we've actually been to TV several times...couple of times to visit snowbird friends. We've looked at models, but no pre-owned as we are not yet ready to buy. We have a ton of work ahead of us just clearing out this house! We love the whole idea of TV...except 2 of our "Grands" live in our subdivision almost "next door" to us...what a hard decision! One of them said to me tonight, "Grandmom...I don't want you to move...then I couldn't just walk over to talk." How do you argue with that? Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to answer.

I have GE and had a number of problems with the mircowave and dishwasher. I also have GE clothes' washer and dryer, which came from a high end model home, I purchased them used even though never used. The clothes' washer and dryer are of higher quality than the microwave and diskwasher, so I would say the standard GE appliances are sub quality. All manufactors have different lines with different quality and price.

As mentioned earlier, several GE kitchen and laundry appliances are rated pretty high by Consumer Reports. They are the higher end/more expensive models (Profile, Cafe etc.). Builders usually don't use them.

I'm pretty sure the top-rated GE appliances are not the ones that come with new homes here.
