I don't either.

Do you think Snopes could give us an answer?

Currently law enforcement has no jurisdiction to issue regular traffic violations on the multi-modal paths. So if you’re zipping along at 24mph in a golf cart, they can’t nail you with the “unregistered vehicle” ticket like they could if you were bombing down Morse Blvd. in the diamond lane (for golf carts).

But this could change in the future. I’m checking into this so stay tuned for further information as it becomes available to me.

Is moving into the auto lane to pass a moving object in the recreational trail legal?

I'd also like to know the answer to this question. Does anyone know for sure?

If you are referring to passing a slow moving vehicle in the lane designated for golf carts that is adjacent to the "normal" traffic lane - why not? Any vehicle that is authorized to use roadways can use any and all of the roadway as long as it is done safely.

You could be on a bike, in a golf cart, on roller skates, or whatever. Example: you are riding on your bike at 15 mph. Ahead are two riders going 10 mph side by side. You pass them with care.

Next time I am at Spanish Springs I will ask the deputy there, but I have to agree with you. Several times I have come upon a rental golf cart going as fast as he can go, I think about 14 mph, and I have passed. Mine only goes 20 mph, so I am not violating the law in that sense. Since the speed limit on these roads is usually 25-30mph, golf carts are allowed on them and passing should be and probably is legal.

TH, this subject is covered in today's issue of the Villages Voice.

Wasn't the question regarding the recreation trails?

That's what I thought when I first read it, but where do you find an auto lane on a recreation trail?

What I find interesting about that is that most people "slow down" when they see those radar trailers. I know of very few people who "speed up" as fast as they can to see what the sign says.

I'm skeptical if that will be a good gauge to educate people about the upper limit of their cart speed.

Certainly, it will tell those going over 20 at the time. Will they run home and modify their cart downward?

Anybody else notice the advertisement on this site for a device that speeds up your Club Car?

A quote from the add.

"It says at least 4-5mph increase, we actually got a 7mph increase (20mph). Taller tires will add even more!"

I wonder how fast it will make your cart go if it can already go 20mph.

I find it amusing that this device is advertised on this site.

If you have a Club Car that goes 20 MPH and you install this device properly your cart will go 20 MPH. It does not make a cart "illegal" and I suspect is why it can be an advertiser on TOTV.

Another quote from the ad.

"When installed on a completely stock cart, an increase of up to 50% has been documented and can exceed 20 mph in some cases,"

Isn't the speed limit for a cart 20mph? .1 or .2 over the speed limit and if you install larger tires as the ad suggests you can go faster, is the same as rolling through a stop sign at .1 or .2 mph if your wheels don't come to a full stop. So anyone installing one of these might be breaking the law too.

The ad says what it says.
