Golf Cart Speeding Tickets
As I future TV'er, I was wondering if the police are giving out tickets for someone doing a couple of miles over the speed limit, (maybe 22), as opposed to people doing 25MPH or greater when ticketed.
Is there a grace zone before they will ticket you? Is there any special criteria the police used in giving tickets? |

There was a thread started last week on this subject called "Sumter County Golf Cart Citations" which should answer all your questions. It got almost 130 posts as of a couple of days ago. The short answer is that you won't get a speeding ticket for going over 20 mph, you get a ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle which means court appearance and several hundreds in fines. Right now it's only a warning up to 25 mph and a ticket at 25 or over. But they are out there and it can get expensive to soup up a cart to go over 20.

The speed sign was on the golf path on 466 this afternoon. I now know how fast my golf cart goes.

I am ALWAYS amazed at the number of folks that have to go 24 or 25 mph.
Remember at 60 miles per hour you go one more mile....in an hour!!!!!
And most of us travel what, 10 miles per day in a golf cart? and going and paying for a cart that will go 3-5 miles per hour faster accomplishes WHAT? To each his/her own. Life is too short to get there 11 seconds ahead of me. And I do support the ticketing. Just like on the roads...the more the better. I retired from the gotta go, gotta get there mode a long time ago. There are a lot of flowers here in TV to smell along the way. btk |

I do have a Decater Electronics radar set up that works and runs off a 12 volt lighter plug that I can bring down on my next visit and set it up. This is what the police use to use years ago before hand held and laser came along.
Now if I could only find a set of timers and a tree we could line 'em up. Sunday, Sunday,Sunday Sweet Bay International Speedway Time trials at 10:00 am Racing starts at 2:00 pm 9:00 pm curfew strictly in-forced. |

My point is that recently, a deputy told a group that there is NO speed limit on the golf cart paths. I know what the speed signs are for, but if there is no speed limit, what do we do with the information that it provides? Those things are suppose to tell us when we are exceeding the speed limit. |

Correct me if I am wrong, but does anyone just drive on golf cart paths? At some point you have to leave the path to get to a restaurant, square, shopping or home.
