Ladies and gents, just a heads up if you are getting a pedicure in TV. On Saturday my husband an I went to get pedicures at Root 66 as it was close after having breakfast at Sonrise Cafe. ( hubby thinks it's great fun to get a pedicure because up north men don't get pedicures!!) so we each sat down for our relaxing hour of pampering. The pedicure was good except they didn't have any "toe separators" or dryers for the polish which is weird since they give manicures and pedicures. They talked my husband into buying this foot foam to help heal cracked heels (which I never would do). When we checked out they said the cost of 2 pedicures and the foam stuff was $119.00. I almost fell over. I asked them if they could break down the receipt so I could see what each costs. They said the pedicures were 47.00 each and the foam was 24.00. I swallowed hard and said thank you and walked out. How can they charge so much??? Granted it was my fault for not asking in advance how much the pedicures were but gosh. I felt taken advantage of. Any pedicure I've ever gotten was between 25.00 and 30.00. They will never get me again!!

That is about how much was charged for pedicures in Cincinnati in the salon I went to. I did hear of a reasonable amount for pedicures that wasn't at the beauty school. Walmart?

I have paid up to $50 in high-end salons/day spas for a pedicure in Columbus, OH, which you wouldn't think would be like getting it done in NYC. That, however, was in another life and I would never spend that much now.
I have been once to the beauty school over by Walmart for their manicure/pedicure special and it was fine, but leave lots of extra time - all the students' work must be checked by a supervisor, and some students are also faster than others. My daughter and I started at the same time and one of us was finished 1/2 hour before the other, mostly waiting for the check-off. |

When I first moved here I got my eyebrows done at the Villages Day Spa (don't think they're still in business). I knew I was in trouble when they brought me into a massage type of room with tinkling water sound and fresh sheets on the table-LOL. I believe it was $35.
![]() Back in NY I went to places where they had Asian girls and those stackable black chairs. They sat you in the chair, no laying down, no tinkling water and it was not more than $10-that worked for me-LOL.

I usually go to the nail salon in Colony Plaza because it's close to me and it's 30.00 which is reasonable. I didn't figure there would be such a drastic difference in price so I tried Root 66. I am learning that there is sometimes a sharp difference in pricing weather it be hair cuts, massages or pedicures. I've learned to always ask the price before getting a service done.

I think most beauty salons are more expensive than the nail salons. I personally prefer the nail salons and go to the one in Colony. The eyebrow wax is $8 and the pedicure was $26 last time I went but that may have been on sale. I think they do a better job than the hair salons because what they do are mainly nails and not hair. They have dryers specifically for hands and feet and have plenty of toe separators and they even have the little foam sandles if you forget yours.

Did they have their prices posted anywhere in the shop?

Root 66 is owned by the same owners as the beauty school. My husband had never had a pedicure, so I thought we would try the school. It was cheap, and if he hated it, I hadn't wasted a lot of money. Well, we both hated it!!! Two minutes into it, I was bleeding. For real...the student was just grinding away from the wrong angle. She was slow, not experienced enough to be set loose on customers, and when I told her I would like mauve polish, she didn't have any idea what color that was. I doubt she made it through. I won't go back there, and now, because of that experience, I won't go to Root 66. I did have a couple of haircuts there before the pedicure thing, and I thought it was very expensive. The price went up $10 from the first cut to the second because the stylist got moved up the ladder of experience. $47 was also the price of the cut.

I've never heard of a man getting a pedicure here also and I've been in Fla. since 1953.

I've been going to Tuscany and paying $44, plus tip for a hair cut. But now Jamie is no longer at Tuscany, so I'm looking AGAIN! Does anyone know where he is?

If you can stand to go north, way, way up to Mulberry, there is a terrific salon where you can get an expert pedicure for $25. Appointments are not necessary, but a good idea.
Just another example of the gorgeous, quiet, uncrowded, reasonable TV lifestyle we enjoy. (geeez, I forgot. It's a wonderful well kept secret). |

I go to Solar Nails at Colony Plaza and there are always men there getting pedi's. I was there Wed and it was still $26. They always do a good job-I get a different person each time and am always pleased. I walk-in and only wait 15 min even though they are all busy(10 technicians).

Wow, I guess I'm missing out on something. Does the price include nail polish?
