I think y'all should start a petition with all the complaints already about an indoor pool before the developer spends the money to add it as an amenity. This will give them time and an excuse to just nix the whole idea.

I fail to see complaints/negativity/flak. What I see here is civil discussion with respect to pros and cons.

If you own a car, and you know where "Oakwood BBQ" on 441 in Lady Lake is located. Across the street is 'To Your Health', a gym that opened a couple of months ago. It's only $20 a month and they have a 60' indoor heated pool. They also have group classes, 3 indoor racquetball courts, hot tub, sauna, weights and machines.

Which is exactly the point I am making - would you prefer to pay separately each time you wanted to use any facility, or would you prefer to have it run communally where you pay a monthly fee and can use whatever you want?

If you review my post #41, you'll find a list of recreation facilities that have a charge over and above the "without cost" notion. There is a mix of free vs fee opportunities in TV now. Most of the current and future facilities are paid for by mechanisms we all share in...Rec centers, neighborhood pools, etc.

Our amenity fees are high enough now (IMO) and I have no hesitation stating there are neighbors among us who have some difficulty paying those now. Paying fees for added services may make a significant difference to them.

The "rocky road" was crossed years ago. Let's let the majority of traditional facilities remain fee free. But for new "special" facilities I'm strongly for "pay to play."

I'm still for the contrarian position.

I don't want to be a negative Nancy, however, just imagine the fuss when the cost of a new indoor pool is published. This time last year this site was raging about the cost of stripping the MMPs. This was only about $.80 per rooftop, or $700,000. What do you think the comments will be with a multi-million dollar indoor pool? Even if the the building is paid for by the AAC settlement funds, the cost of operation will be footed by the residents. When that cost is known, all hell will break loose! Just sayin......

A common sense post...how refreshing.

I have neighbors who don't even have a golf cart, but they aren't whining about paying for the upkeep of the MMP's. Or maybe we should set up toll booths and make only those using the cart paths pay?

I don't play softball either, so should I have to pay for the upkeep of those first class facilities? Why can't they do with less fancy ball diamonds? And then there's the Polo Grounds.....

I prefer permanent landscaping and could do without the flowers planted twice (more?) a year at the end of the medians on some main roads...so should I be able to opt out of paying for those flowers to be planted?

In other words...where does it stop?

It's analogous to the fact, that we don't get to direct where our personal tax dollars are spent either.

And for those who don't have kids, but whose taxes go toward supporting schools/education...that's a thread all its own.
