Absolutely correct about Australia. It should be shouted from the rooftops.

I do NOT particularly believe or not believe what I am about to write about. I have no link and only vaguely remember it. But, here goes - some people believe that living in 3rd world unclean, primitive conditions gives you an immunity boost because you GET more hookworms in your stomach and intestines - which somehow (?) confers increased immunity to disease? And that the 1st world reliance on antibiotics kills both the good and bad bacteria in the gut. Have any of the Doctors on this forum heard of this and is it possible or just a QUACK HYPOTHESIS ??????

Very impressive activity level. Wish you good luck in the future!

I find it amusing. My doctor has a form you fill out on every visit. Have you been to places where Covid is spreading. They mention New York. I find it amusing that they do not mention Florida.

The vaccine. There is no shortage of conflicting information. It seems that once you get the vaccine you will still be expected to wear the masks.

All we can do is the best you can. Aside, I do wear a mask. A real problem since it is a two week gestation period people can be guilty of murdering others and not even know it.
The scientists are now studying If after getting both doses and waiting a few weeks, IF (?) a person can still shed droplets and infect others. And IF so, for how long can they shed? Much is still unknown. That is why the scientists would prefer you to keep wearing a mask and avoiding indoor gatherings. But, this will be a hard SELL to the general public.

I vote for quack hypothesis---strongly! Old world hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale) is nothing you want to get. Neither is New world hookworm (Necator americanus), unless you like anemia, weakness, fatigue and a variety of other symptoms. BTW, it is generally contracted by walking barefoot on soil that contains the parasite , so keep your shoes on.

Agree with quack, but hookworms are a minor player, 90% of cases are asymptomatic, the rest get anemia, but hardly ravaging anywhere. The most common infection worldwide is still Hepatitis B, followed by malaria, Hepatitis C and Dengue. There are 2 billion cases of Hep B worldwide, which in turn increases the risk for hepatocellular carcinoma, which at one point (and maybe still) was the most common malignancy in the world. The most common helminthic infection most likely remains shistosomiasis

Correction---Ascariasis is now the number one helminthic infection

My apology to someone who I angrily called "arrogantly ignorant" was just removed so I will respond to this post.

I am very grateful for the medical expertise from you, sir, and also from Blueash. I read with interest all of your posts and find it mildly amusing to see you two occasionally banter about your "other non-medical" views. I think it is so good to know that both of you live here in The Villages and both of you were not only born well above average in intelligence but chose to follow the long and rigorous path of a medical education with an M.D. after your name. I so appreciate the years and years of stressfully being on call almost all of the time, and of diligence, plain old hard work and ultimate self responsibility. I am so grateful that you both persevered and that you share your views with us.

Does this soil include Miracle Gro soil at Lowe’s, as I needs few bags for the garden.

I made an off the cuff suggestion that perhaps I had gained a certain amount of immunity to the flu and colds due to my extensive living and traveling overseas in third world countries. I mentioned that I have never had the flu and rarely catch a cold. Perhaps it is due to an "acquired immune system?" Just a guess as to why I seem to be able to shrug off the same diseases that make others bedridden. I've seen folks drink and eat stuff that would put the average American in the hospital fighting for their lives. Ever heard of "don't drink the water?" So, apparently I encouraged our "poster" that likes to hijack every thread and saturate the thread with his "know it all" on all subjects. Thank you for your input and your extensive knowledge on all subjects. I am amused and almost entertained by the twisting and distorting of one's comments on here to camouflage the troll-like behavior. I appreciate how one can divert the subject to reflect how he thinks other countries are superior to ours, how villagers are idiots and his displeasure with The Villages in general.
I think that I have made it clear that I believe the virus is very dangerous. Science has proven that some folks are either immune to the virus and show no symptoms, become infected and show minor symptoms, become infected and are incapacitated, and some even die from the virus. No one is declaring the virus a hoax. I believe that most of us have known someone that has either had the virus and survived or someone that has died from it or with it. Just because I do not allow the virus to rule my life and stymie my lifestyle, does not mean that I do not take it seriously. I know exactly how some on here feel that have lost family or friends to the virus.
If we are showing a commonality to the OP, I will add that I have lost two family members to the virus, and currently have three that are infected. The three that are infected consist of two in their 40's and one 18yo. I have also known two Villagers in their 80's that had the virus in Feb and one was hospitalized. Both are doing well and back to living a normal life. I have reason to take the virus very seriously and do. That said, I am also pragmatic about it. I take precautions but do not allow other folks panic and hysteria to dictate or limit my liberties and lifestyle.
I love my country and firmly believe it is the Best in the World. Instead of cutting down the Villages, I prefer to maintain a positive attitude toward it, even when a FEW attempt to disparage it. And my politics is that I am an AMERICAN first.
