To me it appears that some people hope to minimize the effect Covid has, by challenging statistics, how transmissible it is etc. it makes no difference to Covid. The more we understand how it works the better chance we have to conquer it.

It's difficult to understand that quote, I agree. Ignore at your "peril" ? Ignore everything ? The meningitis my physician said could be picked up from a dirty, un-wiped lunch counter, or under inflated tires ? A loose rug can certainly be a peril.... I about landed in the hospital a week ago taking a very pleasant walk.... enjoying the view of wildlife on a pond and not watching the hundreds of tiny acorn like tree seeds/fruits covering the sidewalk ! Bad fall, the world is a very scary place, and Covid is just one that gets more publicity than many other dangers. Guess a mask would not have protected me from the acorns, but hope it does protect from microscopic particles !

Glad you said .."to me it appears"....
Always opinion.

I still do not see the correlation between covid and gravity. If it's an analogy, it's a poor one

Ignore everything? No... if you ignore Covid you may get to see it’s consequences. Sort of like running across a busy highway, you may make it safely but then again....

OK...you seem to like analogies. Take your running across a busy highway...."if" you run across at the green you have a much better chance, that's what I'm doing, running with the green, strait on to life if you will. I'm not stopping on that caution light, or the red for that matter.

Ok, so the reality is that there is a dangerous virus(to some folks). An update to my family is that three of my daughters have or had the virus. Two or three grandchildren have or had the virus, but maybe more of them may have had it and I have not yet been informed. My son-inlaw has it. Everyone is getting better, some within a few days. I know of two neighbors in their 80's that had it and survived. So far, I have only witnessed a couple of incidents where the virus was equal to or worse than the Flu. Maybe those were the Flu but tested positive for the virus? Anyway, the fact is that a whole bunch of folks have had, have or will have the virus before this goes away. That's reality. Personally, if I am not immune to the virus, I would prefer to catch a case of it and get over it than have immunity and still take the vaccination. Just my preference and I do not encourage anyone else to follow suit. I am not an expert on the matter, but apparently the experts are not so "expert" either. I do not hide under my desk when I hear a siren either, since I doubt it will do me much good in the case of a nuclear attack. Just my reasoning, of course.
The family members that have been infected were all younger, the oldest being in her 50's. I believe that I am in better health than most of my infected family members that have easily shrugged the virus off in a matter of days. I am encouraged by that knowledge and fear the virus less. I have never had the Flu so my fear of it is waning also. I still take some precautions, such as consistently washing my hands, keeping my hands away from my face and wiping down my shopping cart with the available wipes at the entrance. I prefer to social distance out of habit and move back when someone that is speaking to me gets too close. It is an auto response on my part. I may not be immune to the Flu but I have not had it and do not get the vaccination. Russian roulette? Perhaps.
Some may feel that I am foolish, but that is my prerogative and it has worked for me for 70 years.

You'd rather risk a very gruesome, very lonely and isolated death, and risk spreading that virus to everyone you might come in contact with before you present any symptoms, because you don't want to get a vaccine? Wow. You do you, boo.

Meanwhile, my sister might end up intubated, and I'm horrified. This doesn't just affect the person sick. It affects their family, friends, pets, landlords, customers, bosses, every single person and creature their life interacts with is affected.

And yes, I plan on getting the vaccine. It won't be my "turn" for awhile, and I'm okay with that because I'm not at risk. But I'll get it once that window of eligibility opens.

There is a very/VERY low risk of me incurring a "very gruesome, very lonely and isolated death" and if almost everyone is getting the vaccination, how would I be spreading it to everyone I come into contact with? I did NOT say that I was not going to get the vaccination, only that I think that I preferred to catch it and become immune to it naturally, than to find out after I received the vaccination that I was already immune to it. I guess that I should elaborate for those that find it difficult to comprehend my posts. I have been accused of making them way too long as it is. Now you know why.
By the way, the deaths from COVID in Florida as of 24 Dec is 99 per 100,000, which equals about .099 of 1% if I got the zeros correct.
I believe I did say that I believe the virus is serious. I also believe that this new vaccine is a scientific miracle. Don't let panic and hysteria rule your lives.
