The numbers don't lie, people lie about the numbers. People pull numbers out of their nether regions when they are trying to make a point rather than actually looking for documented statistics.

In the US the of flu deaths per year is in the neighborhood of 30,000. The 2019-2020 flu season saw about 22,000 US deaths according to the CDC. I am still looking for 2020-2021 numbers but those are hard to find since we are just starting into that season. I suspect your "almost 0" number is due to incomplete data gathering.

I too was a casual acquaintance of the 1st Villages covid victim. My brother is currently in ICU after almost waiting too long to get medical attention and looks to be recovering. We hope his side effects are few. Bro in law was moderately ill with flu symptoms. We had to quarantine and get tested, negative. We're careful, don't take unnecessary risks and try to remember to respect distancing, but we're still out there. I'm so fortunate to be living in a place that's not suffocating our livelihoods. I think we can survive without adding hurt to those trying to support families.

Your statement about birth defects was driving me nuts so I’m looking all over medical websites and found none stating that the vaccine might or will cause birth defects. I did find lots of uninformed social media info stating the vaccine is bad and the cure is worse than the disease.
So I guess it’s who you want to believe... Well educated trained professionals or social media hacks.

I have a fellow realtor and pickleball player who died last night. Young man with 3 young sons. So sad. Just learned another realtor in hospital. (In OHIO) In the Villages I had 5 very close friends who tested positive, 3 of which ended up in the hospital. (Young 60's) Struggled but came home. Took a month before they felt normal. This virus is real and will have lasting effects on people's life!!

I am so sorry for your multiple losses. We know who is responsible. They will pay the price, including those here in TV who also have no honor.

To all of you that know no one that has tested positive for covid-19 or haven't lost anyone due to the virus...up until two weeks my wife and I were one of you.

unfortunately, no longer

We have a dear, dear friend that will succumb to Covid-19 any day now...we are not related, but he is as close to us as any cherished uncle would be. He was moved to Hospice yesterday. We would spend time with him every week. He was outgoing, active, a wonderful sense of humor, drove his own car, kept up on the world news, had his wits about him, was very active in our church, played it safe regarding the virus. He is 90 years old. Not a perfect figure of health, but for 90 in damn good shape. 2 weeks ago he started having difficulty breathing. His stepson took him to the hospital. He lived with a stepson and his wife, both immediately were tested and neither of them tested positive for Covid-19. He was placed in the covid-ward in the hospital and put on a ventilator. No one has been able to visit him, he wouldn't have been able to read a card if you sent it too him....he will pass without his children, siblings and close friends that love him even being able to hold his hand or whisper "I love you" in his ear.....

There will be no public funeral service immediately following like in the past for all of us that will mourn his passing, which will make it even more difficult to reach closure

Covid-19 sucks....it leaves a huge hole that yearns to be comforted.

Covid is worse than ever right now with 30 to 40 new cases a day in the Villages when before opening the squares it was only 4 or 5 a day. Yesterday the Villages had over 50 new cases and there were almost 150 in total with the surrounding towns. It's time to shut down the squares, the bars and forbid any large group gatherings for a short time until the vaccine is given here. At a minimum wearing masks as much as possible.

Another one who doesn’t care when somebody posts they know nine people who died from Covid 19 . Makes you wonder what happened in their lives that makes them so callous and so in compassionate souls .

So sorry to hear about the losses in your life. I truly wish people would take the risks more seriously - perhaps, as you said, they have not lost anyone to this virus. My husband and I went up to see the tree lighting at Spanish Springs and were blown away by the hundreds of people strolling around the square - with their children!!!- and NO ONE wearing a mask!!! What is wrong with people??? When I mentioned it to one person she replied “ well we were outside”. Outside - yes- but piled almost on top of each other - there was absolutely NO social distancing. We left and we saw many other people doing the same. I’m sure those without out masks would say - “ if u r not happy then leave”. I wish people would realize they are risking other people’ lives, not just being careless with their own. I only hope they never have to watch someone they know or love get this virus and deteriorate into death, it is devastating.

Very well said.
Sad to say many would. Those who drink and drive, those who smoke, those who don't wear seatbelts, those who are young and feel invincible, and those whose still go to bars next to people they don't know.
I'll pass on the jelly beans thank you

I agree where are the numbers on influenza deaths, the money is in claiming covid as the cause. Reported reporting as covid somehow pays more to hospital ? I am not restricting living in fear , I wear the mask as is socially required otherwise not concerned we gather with friends and others .

People can do what they want, but yesterday in the Villages there were 50 cases, the most in a long time. All were in Sumter except fr a couple in Lake.
