What other dead Teslas? Any link to reporting on that? See post #10.

I think an EV, like a golf cart, may be fine for zipping around in the bubble. However, I would never consider driving one on a long trip. The downside far outweighs the upside, IMHO.

You might want to check, but I believe EVs are ILLEGAL if a hurricane evacuation is called in Florida. I know when EVs first came out they were. Maybe it's changed?

???? EVs are illegal? Do the EV-police check your garage and issue tickets for your now-illegal vehicle? Will there be checkpoints before getting onto the Turnpike, I4, I75, etc? (unfortunately, I can imagine the state trying some of that)

In 2023 some legislator made a comment about banning EVs during an evacuation. I can find the comment but no reference to an actual bill.

In 2024 FDOT deployed emergency charging stations along evacuation routes.

Thanks for listening.
Fortunately, this is the year without hurricanes, so not an issue to spend the extra dollars on gasoline. But having experience with blizzards in New England for most of my life, filling your gas tank a few days before storms arrive is a no brainer.

The chances that The Villages will be evacuated is extremely doubtful

They are amazing on a road trip as they do almost all of the work. Unless you are a real cannonballer, the car ends up waiting for you, not the other way around. And what's really nuts is that our car has a 255 mile range (down from 270 after 60000 miles) and it's still fantastic for road tripping. Drive a couple of hours, get a splash of juice, then a couple more, it's a delightful way to travel. On an 800 mile run in one day you're looking at 1/2-1 hour more in total time.

That was a myth from 2022. It started as a Washington Post article about "what if" and then morphed into "it happened". In reality, there were a lot of disabled cars and I'm sure some of them were EVs. Statements such as "the roads were clogged up with EVs" and they were responsible for traffic not moving the next day is nonsense.

No truth in that.

That’s not me in the article, I'm just sharing an actual first hand report!

As for the ‘dead Teslas littering the highway,' that turned out to be a social media myth. Fact-checks by organizations like PolitiFact and automotive journalists who reviewed the Virginia State Police logs and driver reports found zero evidence of EVs failing or being abandoned during that storm—gas-powered cars and semi-trucks running out of fuel were the actual culprits.

If you've got links or documentation showing a bunch of dead EVs from that gridlock, feel free to share them!
