I noticed a young boy (no more than 10), driving a golf car with probably his grandfather. I mentioned to him that you need to be 14 to drive. He said he didn’t know that and then switched seats to drive. Didn’t want to see the boy get in an accident and then g’dad get sued.

I saw a dad and mom with the kid on the lap of the driver. I thought to myself, if you can't do it in a car, it's more dangerous when done in a cart! 😬

According to the golf cart safety course offered by Village Insurance, if an underaged child is caught driving a golf cart not only will they be fined but their infraction will follow them back to their home state and they will not be able to get a drivers license until they are 18 or 21.

Personally I wish the golf cart drivable age would be raised to 15 with a driving permit, to have the kids (hopefully) know the rules of the road. That is the law in Florida to drive a car, I believe.

It is particularly dangerous to have clueless kids merging with car traffic when the cart lane ends. Not to mention at 4-way stops within villages, gate crossings, etc. Golf carts are not toys. Parents & grandparents should know better.

A few years ago some young men---think they were older teens---were driving Granpop's cart recklessly (it was observed by many) down near LSL Winn Dixie, when they over-turned the cart. They got arrested and Granpop's cart was damaged. IF someone had been seriously hurt or killed that would have brought things up several notches. These vehicles aren't to be treated like carnival rides. We all can give instances where we've seen adults lack of driving skills as well. Amazing we don't have more accidents in our community!!

People blow stop signs all the time (in both carts and cars). Plus don't utilize the turn lanes properly neither. Makes one wonder "IF" they took driver's ed or if they did, they forgot what they had learned.

People here play fast and loose with traffic safety.

Vast majority of people do not even do a rolling stop at stop signs and most do not use turn signals.

Sumter county police can reduce the real estate tax by a point or two by giving out tickets.

What was explained to me is if an underage youth gets any type of ticket, they will be unable to get their learner’s permit until they’re 18. That should be a sobering thought.

This is exactly why it’s a retirement community. Can you believe what TV would look like if they didn’t have rules it’ll start looking like the way our country is going. So TV had better just PO some people & enforce your rules & regulations. Don’t mess up a good thing!

Would you also support having a valid drivers license at any age a requirement to drive a golf cart ?
